In this compilation of my Elden Ring Lore videos, we will be discussing what I call the ‘darker themes’ of Elden Ring. The Nox, Ranni, The Night of the Black Knives, Godwyn, Those who Live in Death, the Persecution of the Albinaurics, as well as the Omen, their curse and the sinister Dungeater.
This will be part 2 of 3 and given the sheer size of this video, I think you can appreciate why we split it into three - you don’t need to have watched the first one as each of the original videos were written to stand alone.

So food for thought. Melina went through the same ritual as ranni, as how could ranni have knowledge like that without some previous ancient iteration of said action. Why do the 7 soulless demigods not spread deathroot as well given they can be classified the same as godwynns souldeath... Unless that was the point of the decapitated bodies. Understandably if the rune of death was unsealed at that point maybe but how do they not live in death if they died in soul only. Unless they were already soulless before they fell or the souls were used to transpose something akin to fingerslaying blade. Probably nothing but hairbrained speculation but the mark of the centipede on Melina does come into play in this version

I remember Ratatoskar saying the lore was ‘uninterpretable’ and have no thematic or artistic commentary on real life; power, tradition, the real action ship between the ruler and ruled, etc. Im sure he’s eating those words now.

@slothrop42069
@slothrop42069 2 ай бұрын
When he said uninterpretable he meant that the game has too many tenuous connections that it makes extracting concrete meaning much more difficult. He never said that there is no thematic or artistic commentary in the game. His criticism was that the game was less focused compared to previous fromsoft games which I think is a fair assessment given its scope. He’s made several insightful videos about the lore, particularly the frenzied flame and heroic concepts behind some of the major characters, so I don’t think he’s “eating his words” because he clearly doesn’t have the opinion you think he does.

Hey Smough, great video as always. I have a few comments/questions: 1. Regarding Renala and the Academy, I always inferred "charmed" as far more exact. Like she literally used her magic to charm them. And radagons leaving depressed her enough to let the magic slip. 2. I thought Crone was more a reference to the female triple gods(Mother, Maiden, and Crone). This would also align with the 3 moons that exist: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_Goddess_(Neopaganism) 3. Placing the Cities of Nox is a whole other can of worms with my best theory being that they had a massive kingdom around where that giant crater is that all the divine towers are surrounding. The towers themselves are embedded with space rocks(for lack of a better term) and would make sense for moon worshippers to get as close to the sky as possible. Tower of Babel style. Two fingers rain Comet monster hell fire and relegate them to the underground. 4. Which leads into, with enough cycles of Ash, any city would eventually be buried underground. As we see with Leyndell at the very end. How many burn and turns would it take to cover the ruins of Nox? Whatever Kingdom Elden John is from(I think merika is Elden John btw....) 5. The trope is further expanded on Farum Azula where the pillars are literally made out of dirt and bodies. Which is...telling

@@SmoughTown A perfect order enjoyer, such as you, i guess i like the ideia of a order without the influence of the gods and to do the games premise: stand before the elden ring and become elden lord, and unlike in the age of stars, we rule in the perfect order ending. plus, i think we are pretty disposable to ranni, she seems to not have a problem going alone into the void, so if ever come the time where she needs to choose between maintaining the Age of Stars and the tarnished, she discards us without hesitation, wich she is right to do so, as the god she inspire herself to be, like you said, a god thats not driven by emotion or by the events of the lands between.

So as per you mentioned about the Numen and Nox being the same thing… it could be akin to how in real life there is no such thing as “Aztec”… they referred to themselves as “Mexica, from Aztlan” and then outsiders chose to add the suffix “tec” to the name of the region making “Aztec, the people of aztlan region”. So it could be something like that, where they call themselves Numen, but outsiders refer to them as Nox, via “the peoples of Nokstella” or similar meaning.

Yes! The borough I'm from in NYC is The Bronx. But it got that name because a really wealthy family owned land there and the river. That families name - The Bronc's . Just a thought about the godskins and their robes. It feels to me that the skin on their robes could also be them tanning their own molting since they’re snake like beings who grow quickly. The faces on the robes look very similar to their own. If they see themselves as children of a god of death they could also think of themselves as demi gods hence the file name. Just some food for thought. I also was considering that maybe the entire reason Radagon exists is as an adaptation by Marika to imitate the order of death so that she could remain in power. If i recall the golden order came about via Radagon. And everything about the godskin apostles and the next era of the Elden ring kinda made me think that Marika knew her time was up and it was a clever trick to stay in power by co-opting the traits of the next order without having to convert from an order of life to an order of death.

Any idea when part three will come out? Honestly I'm only halfway through part two, so maybe you already answered that question. One thing I'm wondering about is this. If the current Erdtree isnt real. Pretty much like an outer shell of the original tree that was burned down. Then what's up with the leaves that fall off of it? Sometimes they fall off and gives our character a buff right? Golden leaves falling everywhere. Thanks dude!

2:41:03 The logo to the godskin nobels looks similar to an upside-down flame, which could symbolize the actual rune of death that is imbued within the black flame, which is the power that the glome eye queen draws upon to make the black flame so powerful, also she is the polar opposite to marika's order. Marika would see flame as a destructive force to the order considering she locked the red giant up to tend it for eternity. so in conclusion, the power that the logo represents, is twist on the destruction that they want to cause to marika and her order, therefore they use a upside down black flame. (it also fits in with the ying and yang theme)

I'm only 3 and a half hours into the video, so I don't know if this changes, but I think there's strong reason to believe that Ranni's dark moon is the same as the "lost" black moon of the Nox. For one thing, the dark moon is completely obscured by the Erdtree, in all but the Moonlight Alter, where it's still mostly obscured. I think this is why it's considered "lost," and would have given the Nox a valid reason for having a grudge against the Erdtree. Second, it would add a LOT of reasoning behind why the black knives would support Ranni in the first place, if they're really tied to the Nox. If she were an empyrean trying to usher in the age of their moon, it would make sense. Finally, we know the memory stones are pieces of this "black moon", and we can see that Ranni's dark moon is shattered. I also think that "dark" and "black" are too similar of descriptors to refer to two different moons. I think the dark moon is the same one that the Nox would worship, before being obscured by the Erdtree, and rediscovered by Ranni much later.

It's wild how much there is to explore throughout Elden Ring. Even with over 25 hours of exceptional analysis, there's STILL. MORE.

I know I'm only on 2 of 3 super duper long vids, but do you get into who is the snow witch and what were her motivations for setting Ranni on her path? It seems that Ranni had her own motivations to go against the golden order, but perhaps the snow witch was using that to her advantage for some reason. Great videos, you do a nice job going over so many things in an organized way!
