I think Radahn had to die cuz he still had a great rune, meaning he's still part of Marika. He's being watched by the greater will. He had to let his body die to be free of it like Ranni, so they aren't monitored or controlled. Speaking of, I think Ranni was already halfway to godhood and was cucked. Ranni was one of the three empyreans not of Marika's and Radagon's, but had a surveillance wolf life hers. Radahn withheld the stars so she couldn't get into Nokron, that held the Fingerslayer Blade. If she was able to kill Godwyn with the death blade, she could theoretically kill Miquella and Radahn before Miquella can uphold his end of the vow. Fingerslayer Blade ("Cannot be weilded by those without fate, but is said to be able to harm the Greater Will and its Vassals") could kill both since Radahn and Miquella would still have their original bodies with the mark of the Greater Will, their great runes

After Godwyns death, Marika(as the vessle for the Elden Ring) banished Godfrey, and created Radagon from the shattering of the Elden Ring. Just a hypothesis I've had for a while due to a few things: The Abyssal Serpent/Base Serpent is the former God from whom she stole the power of. "Shorn of Light," could refer to this, and it would also explain why Messmer curses Marika in his death, as his death requires breaking the seal of Grace that is his eye; The Base Serpent, now free, makes Marika's "Sin" clear to Messmer. I could obviously be super way off, but it's just this thing buzzing around my head rn.

Doesn't the ritual Ranni does require...2 people? How could the assassins all of a sudden just decide how to kill only the soul? It makes more sense to me that the assassins were unaware of Ranni's full intentions, and just killed demigods as normal, with Ranni timing her ritual with Godwyn's death(unsure how, maybe some kind of magic that allowed her to spectate what was happening). And the bodies in the mausoleum...they are clearly different then what happened to Godwyn, so I assume they were killed by the rune of death normally, which naturally would mean the death of both body AND soul, leaving them soulless.

It would have been much more interesting if the DLC had Miquella attempting to revive Godwyn and taking him as the consort. It's a shame they chose Radahn in the end.
