I started out wanting a Roland FP30, then a P125, then a DGX, and now I'm saving up for a P515. I'm afraid if I'm going at this rate, I'll end up saving for a Steinway grand to eventually buy when I'm 85 and not eat for 62 years.

@andrewc.12404 жыл бұрын
Sound like you should consider N1x next. Wouldn't it be great to play on an actual grand action? It never ends really. By the time you are looking for a Steinway M or L, you will be thinking about Steinway B or D. And after that there are Steingraeber, Bosendorfer or Fazioli. That's what I realized and the reason I get my P-515 and start practicing.
I have a 515 and love it. I have been playing for many years and am an acoustic piano person. This is my favorite digital piano so far.

Just bought my P515 from Kraft Music on-line during the Black Friday Sale. I am sooooo excited!!! Came with an awesome bundled deal and my sales guy(Jake) who was an absolute delight to talk to as well threw in some extra stuff too!!! Like many of your comments, I too, was saving for a higher quality piano(grand acoustic), but realized many years had passed me by and during that time I could have been practicing and becoming proficient so that when I bought my dream piano, I would be ready and not a total beginner and could enjoy my instrument even more. I am so happy that it is highly recommended on this channel and it sounds beautiful especially the Bosendefer (I spelled that wrong, I think) piano sound. I plan on playing more non-classical pieces. One of my favorite songs is by Steve Wonder from the album, "Songs in the Key of Life" called "Knock Me Off my Feet". I hope to play that song by Christmas of next year or sooner!!! Oh!! I also got 3 months of free lessons too with Yamaha to start. Yesssszzzz, I did it!!! Let's goooooo!!!

The two samples of cfx and bosendorfer are the best I have heard on any portable style digital pianos. And I have a Steinway acoustic piano. I really like the DGX660’s piano sound and broad range of arranger features, but I’m concerned about its weight/portability. @ThePianoforever I saw in another video you used gram weights to measure the actions. Can you provide the weights of the low/mid/high ranges of the P-515 compared with the P-125? I was originally looking at getting a P-125 but am hearing many good things about the 515 that I'm tempted to step up to the price as it has many features I like and looks like it would last a long time. The only concern is every review is saying the action is really heavy or the heaviest out of all similar keyboards and although some say it's a good thing due to simulating a real grand piano I'm not sure I want to get something that tires me out unnecessarily especially as a novice player and I unfortunately don't have access to try one out in person. Hopefully having some numbers can give me a better idea of how much heavier it is, also let me know if you have thoughts on this too.
@cyndi23424 жыл бұрын
Heavier touch on a piano takes more force to play. A light touch usually is extremely easy to play with little to no effort. I grew up with a very hard acoustic piano which really built up my strength. Then I tried a Kawai acoustic. The Kawai was incredibly light, fast, and easy to play. The P-515 on here, from what I heard has a harder touch, but you get accustomed to it. Some electronic pianos adjust the force needed to play them.
@camfg89084 жыл бұрын
Hey I just ordered a P-515 today for 1245 euros (which I think is actually an underprice for such a great instrument). When I finally have it, I will tell how it is :) I was planning to spend only max 1000 on digital piano but I found out it's possible to get a much better instrument for a few more bucks. What I kind of couldn't figure out is are those more massive digital pianos that are made to look like real acoustic pianos somehow better than the portable ones? The problem with that kind of piano would have been that I would not have had any way to carry it (50+ kg package) upstairs in a block of flats.
@ThePianoforever4 жыл бұрын
The P515 is an impressively good instrument. In answer to your question, many people do consider the massive acoustic-shaped digital pianos to be better. Some of them are known as "hybrid" pianos, and contain what is basically an acoustic piano's action, modified slightly for use in a digital manner. This action is somewhat better than most portable piano actions, but the P515 and many others will not give you any real problems with any type of music. The hybrid pianos typically will cost as much as a real acoustic piano. In my opinion, that amount of money is better spent on an acoustic piano, which will last longer and never really be "out of date" in the way that an electronic instrument will be, 5 years down the road.

Thanks James - educational and entertaining at the same time - as I'm interested in finally learning some music better (I play the classical guitar but never really learned music theory/ basics) I am tempted by the clavinola type keyboards of Yamaha Yamaha, like the PSR-EW300 SA - if it weren't for the availability/ ease of learning of lighted keys (maybe I could do without tho would save time deciphering scores etc) I would go for the P125 which would be great for my more advanced pianist friends, occasional visitors. Or is the Yamaha education suite not so great/ unique, could I benefit form USB connected software instead?
@ThePianoforever4 жыл бұрын
I have never found "education suites" in digital pianos to be helpful for me personally. These days if I want information about a theory concept I look it up on KZbin, if I want sheet music I go to IMSLP. For a beginner, there are many great tutorials on KZbin for theory, and the basics of music, as well as more advanced topics too. And of course, when the pandemic situation calms down a bit more, finding a piano teacher is always an amazing option.

The clavinova is a 1-piece piano, not just a keyboard, and maybe it comes with a piano bench and 3 pedals, but it's $2000 more. Have I got this right? Thanks for another great review!

Great & informative vid, Thanx! would you consider filming a similar vid for roland line-up? (30X, 60X, 90X)?

After seeing some of your Yamaha electric pianos I have a question. How much better do they sound with an external amplifier with much larger speakers?

The sound quality on the P515 compared to the other models is downright unbelievable...just, wow.

James would you recommend the P515 for a small to medium church for blended contemporary church service. We are very "mild" when it comes to contemporary but enjoy some layering of music for the different sounds. I never hear how difficult or easy it is to record and play back on the 515. I've watched several you tube videos on the 515 and never hear anyone refer to the flute sounds. Are they good enough to play flute from the 515 to accompany our pipe organ during an anthem or prelude piece? We like this series, also for the portability in the event we would want to move around or to the choir loft. BTW you do a very nice review and I've watched most of them I think. LOL

I think the P515 would work excellent for that. You're right, I didn't mention how easy it was to record. It's extremely easy. Layering sounds is also easy, and nearly all of the sounds are excellent. Honestly I think the P515 would be great for that type of situation, I hope it works out for you!

Regarding the P515, are its wooden keys susceptible to negative effects from a hot and humid environment?

Actually p45 is quite acceptable. I heard p515 and p45 back to back in this video. Although the difference is obvious however p45 is quite musical and enjoyable to listen to even right after p515.

Thanks for the reviews. I am trying to decide between the P515 or the Roland FP90. Price isn't an issue. Do you have any recommendations on this choice?

Hmmmm... The FP90 is not a terrible digital piano, I played one in a piano store some time ago and liked it at the time. It uses Roland's modeling technology to create some of the piano sounds, which I think gives it less of an authentic sound than the P515. The PHA-50 action is pretty decent as I remember, but it's been a while since I've played one. Personally I think I'd go with the P515, it has some of the best acoustic piano samples, and some fantastic speakers also. The action is wonderful on the P515 too.

Thanks for your input. I also liked the sound of the P515 slightly more than the FP90.

I picked the P515 over the FP90. I liked the action on the FP90, it's lighter than the P515 (I guess it will depend if you prefer lighter or a bit heavier action and if this is good or bad thing). I didn't really like the sound from the main piano on the Roland... it sounded "artificial" to my ears which is why I picked the P515.

I got the 515 a few weeks ago and LOVE it. Went for my first piano lesson yesterday after practicing on my own, and the teacher was immediately disqualified (by me) for having an out of tune piano. The P515 sounds SO much better than a piano that isn't perfectly tuned, and if I'm paying for piano lessons I also want to be paying for the experience of playing on a nice, well maintained acoustic. The action is heavy but I've very much gotten used to it. That teacher's piano action felt like moving my fingers through air compared to the P515, so I imagine that when I choose to make the jump and buy a baby grand I'll get an instant boost in my ability to play more quickly. I view it kind of like how baseball players put circle weights on their bats before going to hit so that when they swing the unweighted bat they really crush the ball

Have you ever reviewed a Clavinova? What are your thoughts?
