Coming from the "piano" sound of the 1980s-1990s keyboards (like 1999 Alesis QS6), I find this "bad" Alesis Recital sound actually phenomenal.

Ray was a true magician on keys. Lord was with classic taste, Emerson was with progressive vibes, but only Ray was with those dark jazz vibes... Rip mr. Manzarek, bloody master.

7:01 The metal angled components James is pointing to are *_tone bars_* 7:30 The metal rod mounted beneath the tone bars are *_tines._* Functionally similar to an acoustic piano string, the tines are struck by hammers and muted by dampers.

Looks exactly like a Hammond I used to play in church back in the 70s. Except it didn't have any of the rhythm buttons. Nice piece, but I just wonder if you can find parts or anyone to work on it.

So when talking about the action, you said that the Yamaha's P515 is so much better. But that one costs $1600.

I used to play piano sight reading without knowing any of this . I learned to read music when I was learning to play the guitar . I have no idea how that worked but I can now play neither the guitar nor the piano .

Thank you so much for this video. I just picked up the Concertmaster! It has Bass Notes, and 7th Chords, plus a unique expression pedal that you use with your knee to increase the volume. I also thought it was cool how the legs are designed to be unscrewed and stored underneath the instrument as you mentioned for table top playing. Makes me wonder if they imagined this to be somewhat portable, like you would bring it to someones home and jam out.

You switched tunes on the Yamaha pretty quickly when you tried to play what you had played on the ES110, and realized how bad Yamaha's "Strings" voice was. I agree. It sucks. The P-125 manual calls the strings voices "Strings" and "Slow Strings". I would call them "Slow Strings" and "Slower Strings". It's one of my pet peeves about Yamahas. I have always wanted a real "Fast Strings" voice from Yamaha.

These mass market concertinas will simply hold you back - they don't play well enough to help you develop a decent technique. Better to save up till you can get an entry level vintage instrument from a reputable dealer, or one of the decent accordion reed instruments from small specialist makers. There are plenty of reviews online to help you choose.

I'm curious about how the Bach fugue would sound with the "fast strings" voice. By fast I mean fast attack. The manual calls it "String Ensemble".

I came back after using this Piano for a while. And to be honest it's a super nice instrument. I have started my learning journey with this piano about a year ago, and it was perfect for that. It's pretty small so if you travel a lot it's a pretty good option in my opinion. I mean it's a cheap keyboard, and it's small and simple. But that is what makes it good for a beginner in my opinion.

Great in depth review. Thank you very much for this. I thought the piano sound seemed pretty good. especially for it's price range. I'm sure it sounded a lot better in your hands do to your skill level though.

The thing that always threw me off was how to tell if it's in Major or Minor - since the can share the same key signature? For example, A-flat major looks the same as F minor. How do we know?

Should kids aged 5 years old start with a serious digital piano or a keyboard? Apparently they are very attracted by keyboards, with lots of sounds and songs build-in, but not by a plain piano - even if it is a high end digital piano. Thank you for your great educational videos!

We need more pianos with less keys. I have a 77 key strait strung one from the 1800s that's not much more advanced than the 1850s erard you showed in another video and the sound is magical and it's the biggest piano I can fit in my space with no reason for the extra keys I don't use. The thing I like about spinet pianos is how easy it is to get a forte piano sound out of them by simply changing the hammers to small uniform ones. People who say they sound bad are forgetting that music is an art, not an instruction and remembering the art side of music should know they don't sound bad, just different and the kind of sound you can get out of one better suits a lot of music than the stereotype of what most people think is a good piano.

@user-lh3uz1cp7y Ай бұрын
The modern piano is way too overkill for so many situations. The one I have is not much more advanced but someone put modern hammers in it making it harder to play and it takes away from the forte piano sound it had so I'll be restoring the hammers as close to what it originally had as I could get.
