The Entrepreneurial Spirit Behind Chipotle

On July 13, 1993, an 850-sq ft burrito joint opened in Denver and a legend was born. This is the story of the founder, Steve Ells, and his journey that created one of the biggest fast-food chains in the world.
You wouldn't be quite aware that people go mad about the exclusive customer loyalty program, or a famous singer-songwriter every year supplies 30 000 pounds of avocados to the chain?
Well, this chain has definitely been one of the fastest-growing ones and has always remained original right from the beginning. Its organic recipes and consistency have built an empire that is world-famous.
Originally, Steve had intended to make use of the funds of Chipotle's first restaurant and focused on Chipotle Mexican Grill when the restaurant was able to succeed. But life has other plans which worked out really well for him.
Steve learned early to cook. He always hosted friends for elaborate food and good wine during high school and school but never Mexican food.
While in San Francisco, he fell in love with the city’s massive, foil-wrapped, Mission-style burritos which were his inspiration to start Chipotle.
Steve was an individual who was always concerned about sustainability and his surroundings. He had made only small changes to the still-simple menu in the 11-plus years he had been in business, and continued to seek out new sources for organic ingredients.
