I used to check TV Guide every week to see if SNME would replace SNL that weekend. My mother would wake me up so I could watch it.

To grow up on WWF Superstars and Saturday Nights Main Event was why I became a pro wrestling fan in the first place back in Scotland. Those days meant so much to me. It's pure nostalgia but it's good to see it make a come back. Some great matches during that time.

33 Million viewers watched the rematch of Hulk vs. Andre. It happened on SNME and that viewership record will never be broken.

He looked at how Vince was going to produce the show and said BS to that, this is how you produce made for TV-must see content. He made sure there were more cameras in different angles, he put mics in areas mics had never been, he changed the lighting. He showed Vince how to produce for a TV audience, not just wrestling audience. It was one thing to tune in Saturday or Sunday mornings and see replayed content from 10-20 days prior, that had been edited for time and content. Ebersol taught Vince how to work in the here and now. It allowed Vince to produce much better “live” content for tv. WWE hall of Famer, no doubt, but a television HOF, absolutely.

I been watching WWF since 1984 and loved Saturday Night Main Event, as a kid I clearly remember people of all ages were talking about WWF, it was huge and nothing on TV was like it. As a GenX kid I'm really looking forward to see this show return. It's going to bring tears to my eyes I know it.

The first SNME I remember was the one with Hulk Hogan having his ribs broken by King Kong Bundy. I was 7 years old and had never seen a wrestler be stretchered out and loaded into an ambulance; my hero no less. From that show on, SNME was appointment viewing for me.

When i saw that first friday night main event pop up on my tv, i couldnt believe it. I was confused and frustrated why the main event was on a friday and i had no warning via the saturday morning programs i watched religiously. Fighting to stay awake i got another shock, hogan losing the belt? To us kids that was never even a possibility, although i was never a hogan fan i remember feeling bad for him. Its amazing how i can remember that night so vividly along with so many other wwf moments, but cant remember what i ate for dinner 3 nights ago...

I'll never forget watching wrestling for the first time and using action figures (Mahoney from Police Academy, Robocop, the Hunchback from Real Ghostbusters, and Shredder) to recreate the moves. That memory is burned into my mind. It was Hogan vs. Bossman, which is why I used Mahoney. Good fucking times, man.

It's hard for today's younger fans to understand how MASSIVE SNME was in the 1980's. It wasn't watched by just wrestling fans, SNME was WATCHED BY EVERYONE! And I mean everyone! Your teachers at school, your Parents, the Lunch Ladies, your Grandpa and Grandma, I mean EVERYONE! SNME was a pop cultural event, a fundamental part of the 80's decade, and there's really nothing like it in today's pro wrestling landscape.

Back growing up there was no RAW with quality matchups consistently. Usually we only had Saturday and Sunday morning shows with mostly enhancement matches with a main event with Superstar vs Superstar at end of show. So SNME was special and staying up late was a fun Saturday Night, just had to pay attention for WWF promoting it on the morning shows. If memory serves me right it was once a quarter, so about 1 every 3 months. But now with RAW and Smackdown it’s going to be another one of those shows so SNME will lose some of its cache, being a primetime network version of one of those. But should still be nostalgic fun on Saturday.

Basically, SNME eventually gave birth to RAW and Smackdown! Compared to World Class and World Championship, I used to despise the WWF weekly shows because. they were made up of boring squash matches and interviews! Like the two NWA shows I mentioned, once a month. SNME featured main event matches and compelling angles!

I remember once flipping the channels in either 91 or 92 in and I was amused by watching pro wrestling for the first time and then and tried to tune back in the next weekend it wasn’t on so I didn’t watch again until early 1996 when I had cable and happen to be flipping the channel at the right moment so I think I caught the tail end of Saturday night main event could have been a fan at a much earlier age had caught the entire show and knew when to watch

Not to nitpick cuz I appreciate this video but it started at 11:30 pm n ended at 1:00 am. Eastern time of course. Jus sayin… but he’s right, due to the timing we got sick main events or angles within the first couple matches n the last was always a GREAT midcard match that often times fans wouldn’t get to see the wrestlers do their thing. So if u stayed up or recorded it, like I did, its like a bonus

My favorite show as a child. It only came on like 5 times a year, so it was an event when it was on. Every Tuesday we'd check the tv guide, is it this weekend? But, sadly this won't be the same, wrestling is too different now can't stand the modern day stuff. Haven't watched since like 2012.

While Ebersol added some extra polish to the product, it wasn't hard to look better than the abysmal production quality of WWE shows done at Madison Square Garden and Boston Garden at that time. Between their dim lighting, cheap cameras, spotty audio, and poor camera angles, those shows always looked and sounded awful and that includes WrestleMania in 1985. Once WWE started using their own crews for shows in those venues, everything looked and sounded so much better!
