I still have an OG Hotshot that I bought in 1987. 😁

Is it still running??
@scottsmith1525Ай бұрын
@@Competitionx I haven't tried it in a long time. I think with a new battery and charger it would. All I can say is "ran when parked". 😆 That might give me something to do though. 😏

So there is the original Hotshot / The re re hotshot (2011 i think) / The Hot shot Blockhead motors and now the Hot Shot 2024 ,that means more Hot Shots than Hangover films !

LOL - good one. But yes, it just keeps getting updated. ;)

Wait....what's with the Slicks on the side of the box? Oval Track Drift anyone?
@Competitionx8 ай бұрын
Looked at that - they are actually a tire with a very small pin. Tamiya calls them the Dual Block Tire. You said slicks, we had to go running to find the box!!! LOL

1:08 notice how the sticker says "brushed" ESC, you talking of a brushed motor but when you read it you say brushless... why can people not hold it apart? i dont know. Otherwise great report, ill get one now two love the sleek low down design as opposed to the uggly raised Blue/White version. Must add ballbearings. And i dont trust the gears, hopefully they hold up for a while. Be intresting if there will come any high quality aftermarket gearsets that dont whine like the tamiya ones do.
@Competitionx5 ай бұрын
Other than Tamiya, everyone else uses brushless equipment so we're still stuck on saying that - even though we were looking at the 'brushed' sticker. It happens man. We also ran ours on 3S and everything works great - the only issue was an overheated ESC that shut things down for a bit. Gears were fine, tires were fine, suspension was fine. It's not all that fast on a BRUSHED 540 motor.

I think the hotshot 2 looks boring. Im happy with the blockhead version. I wish tamiya released hitshot versions good enough to race with a slipper clutch etc..a modern buggy hotshot
@Competitionx8 ай бұрын
Ya, we love the Blockhead version - hard to accept a 'normal' version after that was released.

I wish it came with bearings. I’ll have to order them separately. I’m still waiting for my Hobby shop to get them in, here in Australia 😎

@diamond66ist6 ай бұрын
I always use Plaige bearings they have every Tamiya model in stock and delivery is usually within a week to South oz.
@jasonkohlmeier67078 ай бұрын
What most people don’t realize is this is the most sought after one of the hotshot family. It also performs much better than the others. The order was hotshot, then super shot then hot shot 2. It then went into the boomerang family with the top being the bigwig. Tamiya has always had great molding they started as a model company. The plastic in tamiya has not changed since the 80s. Kyosho has changed theirs but tamiya is staying close to the original.

Yeh I'm a big fan of the HotShot 2 as well. I skipped the blockhead version, bit this one will be an instant get as soon as it hits the local store. Prepainted body is a little bit meh as I like to paint them little bit different for myself though... And for all the ppl who say the Hotshot 2 is boring, it's NOT get lost ffs haha.

We've had a few Tamiya cars that were fun to drive but looking forward to actually RACING this one. There's a vintage offroad group starting up and, well, this should be a fun car for that class.

I run NIMH batteries in most of my Tamiya cars and they all have a Tamiya plug on them as standard, so I’d say plenty of people not using lipo (which is a lot of Tamiya owners) still use that plug.
@Competitionx8 ай бұрын
There may be some truth to that but, realistically, most of the US has gone to the T-Plug or XT60 - the Tamiya plug is an ancient relic. Now, The Tamiya plug IS huge in Japan - they haven't accepted the LiPo battery yet as freely as we have here in the States so we're guessing that's why it's still comes in the kits.
@Sammyjk238 ай бұрын
@@Competitionxits the most common non-lipo plug here in Australia and given that so many people don’t want huge power or the effort of maintaining lipo, I think the plug more than has its place as a nimh standard, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

May I ask if this is made in Japan or Philippine ?

Nice kit and thanks for showing. For me the Super Hot Shot's still the pinnacle of this series. Four shocks, a chassis reinforcing skid plate comming along with a better battery access and complete ballraised. I can understand for nostagical reasons to go back for the former version as a base for the Blockhead. But for me this new kit isn't a car I want to have. Sorry

Understandable. We were hoping for, at least, bearings on the 2024 edition but alas - no. Bummer indeed.

We thought the same thing until it came to that build step - saved us a good hour for sure - cleaning, prepping and painting, waiting to dry before stickering - we'll take it :)
