The case for epigenetic clock is being overstated. The epigenome is pre determined by what your grandmother ate and the ability to impact it by lifestyle is meagre. And then who wants to suffer with exercise and broccoli ? The fact is lifespan in the US has shrunk for past 3 years and that is going to pick up pace with COVID19 With starvation and unemployment thrown in we are about to become even a sicker society with shortening healthspans

Moderate alcohol consumption is part of people who value fun and socializing, so it is the lifestyle not the alcohol People who live in Loma Linda, CA (blue Zone) don't drink but value healthy lifestyle that include socialization , being active, having fun, mindfulness, eating healthy, etc..

It’s not the alcohol, it’s the Resveratrol in the grapes, that slows aging. I really wish these people would make the distinction when they say that. There are less toxic ways of getting Resveratrol than ingesting alcohol. Cranberries have it, too. It’s misleading, even if popular, to say that. One may decide to ingest alcohol for other reasons (like the buzz), but don’t tout it as what slows the aging. Love that he references the Horvath clock. I’ll look up his company he mentions, to see if they have a clock available - but I’m definitely a bit of a chicken to find out my biological age. Next, I’m watching that Steve Horvath TED talk next - oh, more Friday night COVID-19 social isolation fun.

But maybe a very moderate alcohol consumption can make you happier and more sociable, and this extends lifespan. Every blue zone has plenty of social interaction

The data on moderate alcohol consumption needs to separate out those of us who choose not to drink from those who have to abstain because of medical or sobriety reasons. This video continues the myth that drinking is beneficial.

That modest drinking is beneficial is not a myth That has been settled by a Chinese study. With every food item there are outliers and would fail to benefit, But the benefits of alcohol are very modest and can be bargained off. No need to sweat over it esp dont start drinking and then end up in AA or develop alcoholic dementia

The recent research on the genome of the enteric microbiome referred to as microbiota which I prefer to call microbogenome as the third genome with inherited DNA genome topped with the epigenome that interplay with microbogenome in ways that it is likely that what is being attributed to epigenome is actually the product of micobogenome or at a minimum micobogenome impacts both the original inherited DNA and the epigenomic processes that for practical purposes this is where the focus should be turned to. The beneficial effects of glyburide (Metformin) on healthspan is also likely microbiome mediated. The trouble with microbiome is that it is simply too vague and nearly impossible to tame as it has thousands of species that keep shifting somewhat each week or each month although the basic pattern remains fairly constant throughout life, which is again a nightmare when one attempts to apply therapeutics or lifestyle medicine to microbogenome.

I am confused by your graph presented at 11:18 which depicts "% of Population" on Y axis compared to years 1940 through 2060 on the X axis. There is no obvious correlation between X and Y axes here. For example what age are you referring to in the Y axis? Age 50, 60, 70 , 80, 90? Depending on your variable used this graph changes the slope of your plot. This is a very generic presentation which can be summarized as we get older we also have to deal with an increase in infirmaries associated with aging.

TubeYouJet “Global AVERAGE age is set to increase dramatically”- he is simply saying the average age of humans worldwide is rising and this rise in large numbers of an aged population will be a problem.

The variables on both X and Y axes are ages - months or years. It depicts a relative rate of aging biologically in relation to chronological aging rate which is constant and immutable hence an independent variable. Epigenetic aging is supposed to be the dependent variable but that is not so easy to succeed with.

Doesn't anyone get the easy solution? We age because we don't die young anymore. So the solution is to DIE. YOUNG. It's not that difficult. Why does everyone act as if aging was inevitable?

The east and west should agree on the average age? Dude elderlies and growing old is the very core of eastern philosophy. You even mentioned that fountain which shows how obsessed the western culture is with death and getting old.
