None of these are on my short list but I'm chuffed for epiphone upping their game, to be seen if they'll deliver but their high ends have been exceptionally good for some time and even better qc since the inspired by Gibson stuff. Oh my god, Epiphone did it. An open book headstock Black Beauty. I've been saying since the Adam Jones LP's came out that if Epiphone could do that, I would be a day one buyer. I would guess this will be roughly $1500. Fair price I'd say considering the alternative options for LP Customs start at about that price, even trying to import a Burny, or find a decent used Greco or Orville will set you back about the same. I could never afford an actual Gibson Custom, this seems like a steal really.

And what guitar is this based on again?
@jeffreyeagen48968 ай бұрын
I got one of the Epiphone Firebirds when they came out last year and it's fantastic! As for Epis costing more I look at it this way. They have always been well made guitars, but were basically platforms for modding. The foundations were good, but the hardware and the electronics needed to be upgraded. So for the price it was a good starting point. With the higher prices now you are already getting better hardware and supposedly Gibson electronics. So upgrading probably isn't necessary and it's cheaper than a Gibson , so I'd say it's probably fair. Maybe. As long as it's a quality guitar, why not?
@LeopoldShitzalot8 ай бұрын
Gibson uses veneer and lots of it....Gibson's semi-hollowbodies like the ES-335 and ES-339 have tops and backs constructed of layers (either 3 or 4) of maple veneer. My understanding is that the veneers are assembled in successive cross-grain layers with the top layer having its grain longitudinal to the length of the guitar. The tops and backs are approximately 1/4" in thickness after layup.
@trevor45338 ай бұрын
4:11 I Called it on the Ebony LP Custom! I hope the burst next to it is a plain top instead of being a veneer. $1500 is kinda steep, I figured a little bit of that price was based off Greeny being a signature, but oh man I'm so hyped for these to roll up on the used market haha. edit: Its also kinda strange that the Adam Jones model has a metric/screw driver bridge while Greeny and the other "Inspired by" models coming out all have the correct Gibson style bridge.

This is all good as long as they come with a hard case & Gibson pickups with the price they sell these guitars at. Epiphone has the build quality & the look of Gibson, so those would be the "inspired by Gibson" upcharge in my mind.
@danpritchett56179 ай бұрын
Even though Epiphone prices are going up (have gone up) the buyer is still getting a huge BANG FOR THE BUCK! HUGE. Especially when compared to the corresponding prices on the equivalent Gibson guitar. OK... The Epiphone won't be as nice, the features in many cases much cheaper, BUT some of the Epis come with real Gibson pickups, now, and in my view the build quality on the Epiphone guitars is quite good. I've got a SLASH Epiphone Les Paul and it is a spectacular instrument. It was $799, spread over 24 months, no interest. Beat that! And I've got three Gibson Les Paul guitars! One custom shop. All I'm saying is YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR WITH AN EPIPHONE! NEVER DOUBT! The last Gibson Les Paul I bought was $2499 for the Standard 60s model, ice tea. Those are now $2999, so every thing is going up. Grab what you want and can afford NOW!

However.....if I had waited....yeah...I would have paid $1,500 for the non art. I think the pickup upgrade is worth it. And it seems it cones with the mirror too. And it has the same headstock art as the Gibson. It's the closest thing to the Gibson custom shop version. I should add.....the pickups in the Art versions are great. And i won't ever feel a need to swap them. I really enjoy them. The pickup upgrade in the non art is worth it to me because they would be more accurate to his guitar and they are more expensive pickups. I think Epiphone is doing a great job with these. I really love my guitar.

Epiphone is one of, if not, my favourite brand. I don't get the outrage at the prices from some. The market sets it and no one is forcing anyone to buy it. When the reach the point no one will pay the increases will stop. If they cut all their affordable ones then there'd be an issue. I saw a breakdown on another channel (Im sorry I can't remember the channel name but his breakdown was excellent) about the prices in 04 vs today. Only Fender has substantially increased their prices. Gibson and Epiphone have in most cases cut the price of their offerings when inflation is figured in.

I think the problem with Epiphone's pricing comes from the previous Gibson managements because they set on putting Epiphone as the "cheap" brand. Now that Gibson is trying to rectify that, they are encountering backlash because of that notion guitar fans have had from Epi. I really hope these guitars do well, even if that means we lose an affordable brand.
@jfiery9 ай бұрын
They can be both. I'm sure they still are going to offer their more affordable models too. Kinda like Squier CV and MIM for Fender. In truth I think the management has been extremely smart at Gibson closing holes, creating a new tier and not really affecting Gibson USA. Yes we lost the Gibson LP Tribute but overall they've set clear levels and have a model for every budget.
@MashaT229 ай бұрын
I was one of those 5 people, for the record! Also, I agree. There shouldn’t be a single Epiphone over $1000, including artists guitars. They still sell incredible guitars with the same or similar specs and quality from $599-$999 (depending on the model) - many models going well above that price point have little to no difference in specs, materials, quality, etc. It’s literally price gouging. In fact, I’d love to see a class action lawsuit for price gouging. Where is a lawyer?! I really think there’s a case here. Someone needs to go after Epiphone for this, and a class action suit might be the only way to bring prices back down to earth.

If that is the case maybe the SG & the Firebird I will give a try.

I’ve learned my lesson…Epiphone will show me a badass guitar like the ones in this video, they might even say it’s a special limited run and I should get it before it’s gone. I get it’s all about marketing and profits and not the customer but I don’t feel any excitement to buy one of these new models anymore. They’re new and exciting now with these open book headstocks but in a year or two the used market will be saturated with these and some nicer newer version will have taken their place and these current releases will be available at a significant discount. Very rarely do you see guitar manufacturers overseas use nitro instead of poly, regardless of price. Eastman used to, but they switched to poly as well. Japanese builders will, but at that price you're in Gibson territory. Think it might be an environmental and safety concern for them. Ironically, if nitro on a guitar is your biggest concern, your best bet is buying American. Even ESP uses poly for their $2k+ Eii guitars. I'm more concerned if they're still gonna slap Indian Laurel on the '59 reissue 🙄

A good second hand Gibson is now preferable to a new Epiphone and probably cheaper than a new Gibson too. One Gibson Les Paul Standard and one Gibson SG gets the job done.

I'll try to put my thoughts from let's say a Non-American-centered perspective. You might not care at all, but here it goes: I think that for most of the rest of the world, the increase in these prices is "sad" because for us Non-First World citizens, the effort we put into getting a new higher-ish end Epiphone ($800-ish) can compare to the effort one of you put into getting a Gibson LP Standard, meaning that even if we do good economically is now going to be even harder to afford an Epiphone that the only significant change is an aesthetic one, that I'm sure it involves no extra effort to the CNC machine, because even adding the aftermarket Gibson pickups and case to an Epi , does not add up the prices they are asking. Ah, and I forgot to mention, I wish this was only a matter of exchange rate convertion from USD to my local currency. I still need to add all the import taxes that our local ratailers add to the price. Epiphone now became my Gibson. :(

World economies are on various trending roller coasters, thus luxury items are just gonna go up. I think this is Gibson, ah... Epiphone's attempt to go mano a mano with the likes of the PRS SE line. Not everyone can pony up $2500+ for a USA Gibson. That's why Japanese ESP guitars have their very good LTD line. It's a global issue. Without these call it: mid-tier lines that offer price points between the off shore economy lines and the premiere USA lines. Guitar companies find it harder to generate profits in erratic global markets. I think Epiphone has gotta hit the quality to price point of say, a new $650 Epiphone Firebird that has not functionally changed in a decade or more and a $5500+ Gibson Firebird.

Unless, as you say, they play supa-great, I feel sorry for the fools who pay $1300, $1400, $1500+ for an Epi. Except for that pink Firebird1 I really like....

There are MIJ Epiphones with nitro and the real openbook headstock that sell for that kinda money. Really good guitars too.

All this seems very nice, but now the only thing i have noticed it makes all the prices going higher and higher. For the 2 labels Epiphone and Gibson. Just have a look now how much Gibson is selling the gibson Studio. 5 years ago it cost 700 and now in 2024 they cost more than 2000 ! And only one model stay, for now, under the 1600 ! And Gibson standard approching the 3000 ! And same now for epiphone. All this serie are more than 1300€. When we see chinese company sell similar product at 250. Something wrong in all this. Were do you think we can go like this ? I'm sorry but now it become too expensive for us. We can't follow like that. Music and more guitar should be affordable and not for collectors. And this political pratices is clearly made to makes business thats all what i see. And all this new price just fir changing the head shape it a trap for me. What we win do not go higher at this speed you should think in all that

Honestly...? I really don't like that they are letting Epiphone use big Daddy G's headstock _across the board!!_ 🙆♂️ When it was just a bonus detail on the "Greeny" - that was rudely priced anyway, for an Epiphone - I was sorta OK with that. But to give it out to the whole line of top tier Epi's...? - as a Gibson owner/player ...it kinda feels like sacrilege.... It feels kinda like _betrayal!_ 💀 ______________________ → Now, I have no doubt that these will sell like....well, like Silver Skies! Like hotcakes.. ..but it will come at the cost of devaluing the Gibson brand.
