My Blueshawk has that variotone in it. It's a notch pass filter going from kind of muted nothch to a very bright lead guitarish at the notch on the other end. 4 other notches make it quite versatile tonally.

@JimmyBlade69 They only have a 3-position pickup switch and the pickups in the production models are "Alnico Plus" pickups (same as on a standard epi les paul), while on the Elitist series les Pauls (and probably the personal ones that frank uses live and for recording) that frank used, they had Gibson Burstbucker pickups.

To me the neck appears short.Almost 3/4 looking. Amazing instrument.

It may appear short because it's very thick. I own one (not the Phant-O-Matic) and its neck feels like a baseball bat. But, even if I have short fingers, it feels really nice. The weight it' s a breeze, the opposite of a Les Paul, and it's VERY resonant.

You wont need to upgrade anything, its very good out the box. This sounds fine with the stock pickups, also check the James Comparato demo, nothing that needs changing at all.

You won't need to change hardly anything on it. It's a very good design. Maybe the pickups, but the tone-o-matic knob and kill switch should be operating well if it wasn't abused.

This is a great looking, playing and sounding guitar but the pickups in most of these reissue Wilshires are cheap anemic shit! I bought a reissue Wilshire back in 2010 and everything about this guitar impressed the hell out of me except the pickups. I took them out, shitcanned them and replaced them with Seymour Duncan '59s and the sound was KILLER!!!! A buddy of mine has a cream colored one like the one seen here in this video and had the same issue. He put Gibson Burstbuckers in his and it made sound awesome as well. Trust me, if you buy one of these reissue Wilshires replace the pickups and put something in it that has more testosterone! You'll be glad you did.

I got a limited edition one as a present but I don't know that much about guitars and the knobs dont say what's what, and I'm not sure what the bottom knob does, and I dont even know what position is bridge and so on. I have much to learn I know.
