I can confirm that the RID firmware update for the P4P makes in incompatible with DJI Ground Station Pro. I sent my P4P to DJI for repair 4 times in a row and every time it came back it wouldn't work with GSP. Eventually a supervisor from DJI called me and said do NOT upgrade the firmware. While dealing with this I did find a partial work around. If you take off in Go4 and then switch to GSP it will fly the mapping mission. The problem is that if you need to change the battery and continue, the drone will not take off in GSP. P4P's are great however I bought one of the last ones available from DJi and it has been very problematic. It seems like the made the last batch of P4P's with defective parts and DJI hasn't been able to fix all the problems. The drone seems to basically work now but sometimes it doesn't yaw smoothly. Whether or not the drone will make a smooth, coordinated turn / orbit is random bet. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. When I need a smooth turn and I cant repeat it several times, I use my P4P V1.

I’m not sure what’s up with Paul today-he’s missing the point Rob is trying to make. In my construction company, if a young drone pilot came in and asked for $350 a week to cover three of my projects, the first thing I’d think is: that’s $1,050 a week, $4,200 a month, and if the project runs for a year, that’s $50,000. That’s a big chunk of money for just aerial photos and fly-throughs that might bring in clients. But that’s not guaranteed, and if my social media isn’t on point, it could be wasted. I think Rob was asking the key question: How does this drone service bring $50,000 worth of value to my business, beyond just pretty pictures? Why should a construction company, especially one just starting out, view this as a sure thing? What are the real, measurable benefits that go beyond nice footage? Let’s take a concrete mixer as an example. Say I buy one for $30,000. Without the mixer, it might take five laborers a full day to pour a foundation slab, costing me $1,500 in labor (at $300 per worker). With the mixer, I only need two workers, and they can get the job done in half the time, costing me just $600 for labor, saving $900 per day. If I pour slabs twice a week, that’s $1,800 saved per week, and in 16 to 18 weeks, I’ve already made back my $30,000 investment. That’s a guaranteed return because, as long as I have jobs that require cement, I know I’ll be saving money. But with a drone? That’s not automatically a guaranteed moneymaker. Rob was trying to get Paul to explain how a $50,000 drone would give a similar return. Does it help with surveying? If so, how much time and labor does it save? Give us those numbers. For instance, if a manual survey takes a team of two workers a whole day, costing $1,000, but the drone can do the same survey in two hours with one operator, costing $300-that’s a $700 savings per job. Break it down like that. Or if the drone can identify construction errors early, how much money is saved by avoiding those mistakes? If the drone speeds up inspections or project timelines, by how much? These are the kinds of details Paul needed to provide, the same way I’d calculate the return on a concrete mixer. The person you’re pitching this to needs to see the concrete (no pun intended) numbers and examples, so they can look at it and say, “You know what, you’re right, this makes sense for my business.” Until then, the idea of spending $50,000 on a drone just for pretty pictures is a hard sell. One of the reasons why I haven’t hired a pilot or purchased a drone for my company Yet. Rob was trying to help Paul understand that, but it didn’t seem to click.

👍this is constantly what I’m examining. I am not as advanced as these guys. On a small scale I use my drone to scan and then design my projects in cad. I can say it makes the process with the customers and sub contractors very clear and is helpful as well with building inspectors. Definitely cuts down on errors. Not sure how to value it.

Hey guys I currently create utility locate maps with SE mini and would like to cover larger areas. I bought the mini 4 pro and it sounds like the software won’t allow this. Would any Phantom work or do you need a pro or a particular model number? You have a ton of great videos I’m working through and haven’t seen the answer yet Does Drone U have any plans for a in person course in Canada? Thanks guys keep up the good work.

As someone who grew up in the construction industry... Each site has its own control points to which everyone adheres to .... wrt a local coordinate system... You don't survey or layout a building with a GPS or RTK system.... You use a total station and set it up to the site's coordinate system.... So I would assume all drone work would have to be wrt the site's coordinates... meaning RTK is useless.... How accurate can drone work be with known control points and no RTK.... This is for buildings... Obviously roads and large earthworks wouldn't require such accuracy and could be done with RTK ....
