I love you, Rupert ❤️ Once I doubted what I needed English for.. That was not my choice to study it as the second language and become an English teacher, but my mum's. But now I see clearly why I needed it) to understand your and other teachers' words 🙂 I'm so grateful to my mum and Life for this) Though I'm deeply in love with making craft with kids and passing my passion for art and soul's sparkle to them🤗 I'm also happy I can enjoy listening to you, Francis and other wise and Truth-loving teachers.

I like that she eventually was able to perceive that happiness comes from within, always, although it may at first glance seem to come from an "outside" object or person. An important point for humans to understand Nice one lady :)

I think Rupert is a modern day genius and sage. I also think something is missing. When Rupert asks "Did your happiness have a particular flavour?" I feel it would be truer to say that it did. When experiencing love and joy in a relationship, there is a particular mixture of dopamine, oxytocin, and hormones and neurotransmitters present which gives the particular flavour to the experience of that happiness. In human form, we have a desire to experience a varierty of emotions and this gives these objective experiences value. The same value Rupert would presumably attribute to enjoying the creation of a sculpture. If there was no value in anything objective, we wouldn't do anything. Now that's not to say we should DEPEND on these objects for happiness. And like Rupert says, that'll lead to the end of a relationship. There is much happiness, which is much more lasting, in abiding in our true essential nature. The discovering of this relaxes the seeking mind, releases tension, and in objective reality that's reflected with the presence of less cronic cortisol (stress hormone) and higher levels of dopamine, seretonin, pleasure chemicals. I am a true believer that abiding in awareness is the route to lasting happiness. But if we say that this is the only factor in what makes up the level and flavour of this emotion... I feel that's not quite true. It seems paradoxical, but I believe it's quite possible to recognise the happiness and peace that is inherent in our essential nature, at the same time as recognising we are also value seeking organisms, and that experiencing what has value, gives rise to a whole spectrum of experiences with emotions that have a particular colour. We want to experience things that give rise certain flavours of joy and happiness, without depending on them for lasting peace.

I think what you're saying is true. As we are only experiencing anything of the in this body, it does seem like certain people or things make us feel a certain way. On this level of existance it would make sense to say "this person makes me feel love" when what is really happening is we are being triggered by the experience into recognizing our true nature. This feeling would be different that saying "this person makes me feel bad." However, the experience of feeling the love and the experience of feeling bad are happening in the same place. So I think you're right to say there are different flavors of experience, but not awareness.

Judson Moore Sure, It is said that awareness has no objective qualities. So it must be that It's abiding in awareness that results in lasting happiness and peace. And that is reflected in objective reality with more sustained emotions we would define as happiness, along with consistently more balanced levels of neurotransmitters/hormones that result in the experience of happiness. As opposed to the seeking mentality with more anxious thoughts, less accepting of what is, resulting in more resistence, felt within the body along with a cocktail of tension and neurotransmitters/hormone levels resulting in unease, anxiety, sadness. If awareness has no objective qualities and is the screen on which all objects move and play out, then the emotion of happiness must have some structure within the brain and body. And is reflected in a make-up of chemistry within the brain and body which can fluctuate and have different flavours. More or less dopamine/seretonin/oxytocin/cortisol etc. Awareness is then aware of that and the mind interprets that as happiness. So yes I think we are agreeing.

Gil Monteverde I personally very much doubt we can be permentantly happy. You wouldnt even want to be. We desire a range of emotions. We may however be able to be effectively permentantly at peace. Bar going through being tortured which only a very select few, possibly highly trained monks, might be able to handle and still stay peaceful. Being rooted in presence/awareness allows us to hold the space for all emotions without getting sucked into them and re-energising negative ones. You could also say in a way, there are 2 types of happiness, the permenant peace that comes with recognising our true essential nature, and the joy of experiencing something of value which has objective qualities. The latter may be temporary. But both are valid. There are many different models. This is just mine and may well evolve with time :)

Just another note. It is quite possible to pursue experiences of value and not be dependant on them. But I agree, that a teaching should be weighted toward prioritising discovering our essential nature and sourcing peace and happiness from there because most of us are seeking happiness within objects with which our dependence on them will always ultimately disappoint. But there is an arguement to say we can allow for a bit of that. If I am building a business with which I want to positive impact the world, I am pursuing something of value that energises my action. If I am completely satisfied without it, I won't even take action as I have no need to change my state. I'm not hungry for it. But who's to say we can't be happy WITH the hunger for these experiences of value, enjoy the process and be rooted in awareness along the way? Sure, depedance on them will destroy a person who's identity is invested in it. And if something doesn't work out, sure they'll be an element of dissapointment... it needs to be there to energise action. But won't destroy you, as you are rooted in your own beingness. That way you are energised to pursue things of value, and yet able to be peaceful and joyful along the way.

Gil Monteverde materialistic science is a model, not necessarily an ideology. A model can be useful to some extent. In regards to consciousness, I actually jive more with Ruperts 'consciousness only' model. So don't assume that I am stuck in a material paradigm. But I recongise that all models are not complete, and there is elements of truth in both. They may also interact with eachother or two seemingly paradoxical things could both be true at once.

Hi Rupert, this is just to let you know the reach of your KZbin videos. I’m an American, married to a Russian woman. At the moment I’m sitting on a park bench on a main street in a medium size town in southern Russia: Krasnodar. However, I’m building (by hand) a small house in a small village about 10 miles south of here. I just had lunch with a friend and had a couple more single malt scotch’s than the doctor would recommend, 😉, nevertheless, despite the lovely scotch induced haze, what is here has always been here. More importantly, I look around me, and I have the visceral experience that there is only knowing. Sitting here on my bench, I watch the people walking by, I see the fountain across the street, I see the cars going by, I see the government buildings, and the theater of arts, and I know they are all me. Ha! Thanks for the videos. 🙂 Kevin McMlillan

Its the memories, memories bring impressions which expresses itself in the form of desires that later on have tendencies to attach itself to something due to the nature of seeking. If the memories were horrible, happiness would be the furthest away, only because the memories build towards something had an impression which complimented the inner desire, the happiness appeared as an outcome. The memory builds tendencies you see. Its material oriented. The feeling is real but the cause which was understood is an illusion because they were never existent from the start, only because few changes occured which appealed to the collected tendencies, the happiness came as a result. Suppose let us say, the object of the happiness changes tomorrow, because it will as everything and everyone is bound to undergo change. What will happen? Can the emotions one had for that disappear? Nope, the emotion was already there even before the apparent cause came by. Thats the reality. Otherwise why would you feel saddened when the cause of happiness disappears? Only if one values something one feels sad for it, otherwise sadness is not possible. So when it disappears, your emotions would still exist because its never outside. Outside only acted as a temporary stimuli. Memory influence is an accumulated impression, somehow in someway that complimented the inner seeking so the object of it becomes precious. But it is bound to change, change is physicality which happens each moment, so the tendency ends up taking a real beating out of life. A person's tendencies come by the memories which is a result of consecutive change, its not even their own emotion but one which they have build as a characteristic because of an impression or tendency towards something that was never there to begin with. This is familiarity
