Once in a while a spiritual teacher comes along and starts spewing out so much truth that no matter what dogma or teaching they belong to, and no matter what personal views we hold, we can all somehow universally relate to it at once, human to human. This is where truth resides. And rupert hit the stone here about half way into this video, when he let go of the absract talk and went into a natural state of simple realization of the 'world' around us.

This is SOOOOO credibly powerful! Not only the conciseness and clearness to which Rupert explains this realization, but the TREMENDOUS implications of what this realization means to the person that understands it! "I don't recognise YOU as awareness" "Thats because I am not YOUR awareness" , YOUR AWARENESS, denotes that there is also OTHER AWARENESS'S and that is simply NOT the case. THERE IS ONLY ONE AWARENESS (nonduality)

In so many years on the path of truth, nobody has ever elucidated so clearly these basic facts. Looking back, I was exposed to what he is saying many times. But, the way I received it remained in the realm of a mystical spiritual truth concept, only for the enlightened to truly comprehend and discus. But, here is Rupert, having digested it properly and feeding it to the flock so simply with his undivided attention and intention.

Max Rudolph thinking got you to that realisation in the first place. It keeps us on this plane and within this world of perception and I can see its uselessness once you have realisation. But, without it we'd be infinite again which of course = death here in this world. In short thinking keeps us finite and in this current world.
@maxrudolph1939
@maxrudolph1939 7 жыл бұрын
Maybe you have never experienced the infinite because if you did you know that you would have to die to each moment since that moment is the memory of the past that keeps you in your "finite" prison in your "current world". "Freedom from the Known", by J. Krishnamurti would be a good read for you and then you may find what the timelessness of the infinite that is the present which is without any memory of the past. Peace, joy, and happiness will become the eternal expression of your heart for you will forever be the "Light" that needs no eyes to see. Thank you for your comment.

Loved this video very much. I have often felt that I was more than the sum total of my parts and, apparently, from what I gleaned in listening to Rupert tonight, it appears to be a common and shared experience with other persons (mind/bodies as Rupert says). All things we experience we experience in our awareness which is an inner experiencing. I feel that that premise becomes difficult for many of us when we feel we are experiencing things that are other to ourselves. It, for me, is a real challenge to include the many negatives in life as part of my self. Albeit, I realize that I am not perfect in nature and have character defects, but they are minor compared to the war mongers, thieves, etc., that we come in contact with in life either through media or experientially; things that enter our awareness, yet are not who we are as separate entities of the whole. Does that make sense? How is one to resolve those issues in order to get to the real inner wherein we really know that we are truly the I AM (consciousness with a big C)?
@albertomartingarcia9406

Minahh, "I realize that I am not perfect in nature and have character defects,.. " It seems you see yourself that way, Are you then a mind-and-body (with a name and a shape) - separate from other body-minds? Are you a separate consciousness? Rupert gave you several pointers. Who are you?
@fuldagermany

Hey, Alberto ... you have a beautiful name by the way. Who I am depends upon the day. This is not easy being centered (or whatever word is fitting to staying in One Consciousness). I guess that I am really living in duality. I am one consciousness living as a mind body. Let me ask you, who are you? I mean this in the sincerest way.
@albertomartingarcia9406
@albertomartingarcia9406 10 жыл бұрын
Minahh I am a student o vedanta, ripe in age (and experience of duality). You put it very well: consciousness... living in duality. This is transactional life, which is unavoidable, and it works as it works (not good, not bad). There are two levels of truth/reality: the empirical and the higher one. Once one understands that one is not a doer, or even a thinker (from the higher viewpoint), things are much easier; everything happens spontaneously, without 'me' doing anything, just responding. 'I' cannot define 'myself' in any way, but I am a retired professional.
@fuldagermany
@fuldagermany 10 жыл бұрын
How are you doing Alberto. I had a cousin named Juanita and she was married to an Alberto. They were Argentinian. I saw that you are in Spain and retired. I am in the U.S., European born, and retired as well. So, we are both older body minds. I have been a pseudo intellectual since I was 15 years old and wanted to be in the arts (all of them if I could) and have been a seeker since that time as well. I have had a lot of time alone in my life and ponder those impossible questions and have had many thoughts about such. I realize that we are temporal and I have seen with the passing of time how we continually morph. I view life itself as the ultimate artist. I do not know if I have reached any level of what is called enlightenment, but I do know that I work towards being a better human. To me, love is the answer; agape. I also realize that life wishes to express itself and, often feel, that we are one of the many expressions of life; if one wants to substitute the word awareness or consciousness for the word life, that is fine. For me, words are pointers that indicate something tangible. Although, I am a lover of books and find that words can take one on many inner journeys. If that is what you refer to as not being the doer, then I feel that I FEEL that.

It seems as though the rational universe opposes this practice with everything it's got. And it's good not to just accept what Rupert is saying. With that said, with the attainment of this knowledge the rational mind goes away. Is it possible that with the passing of the rational mind, the debate becomes null and void? It's as though one side wins over the other. But, one must win. They can't exist together.

@MeltedBrain777
@MeltedBrain777 10 жыл бұрын
Where do you experience your friends' voices? *Everything* on the apparent outside is actually within you. There is no outside. And therefore there is no inside, for you need an "outside" in order to create an inside. There is no boundry. Or state it another way, there is only perceiving.
@nimim.markomikkila1673
@nimim.markomikkila1673 9 жыл бұрын
SaketG Your friends are also conscious beings. But you have closed your eyes, therefore your "hardware" has changed for the moment, thus you perceive the same "space" in a different way, without seeing, but instead just feeling, hearing, smelling and possibly tasting.
@jackdawcaw4514
@jackdawcaw4514 9 жыл бұрын
SaketG One might say that maybe we cannot explain it entirely (that is, we cannot verify "other people's experiences", we cannot experience exactly what they experience simultaneously), but that still doesn't prove any external world. Maybe we just don't know how certain elements of this "reality" actually work because we don't have the mind to comprehend it. Rupert can be a bit too forgiving on this point I think, speaking of "other experiences", while we can never verify such a thing with certainty, in experience. Note that usually Rupert says this is the only reality: direct experience. As far as I know it is known in quantum physics from experiments that there is no reality until it is perceived. Before perception/measurement, there is only potentiality, energy. But since the perceiver is made out of that same reality, perceiver and perceived arise simultaneously, as one. They have to, because the perceiver cannot exist without being perceived itself. It's a crazy fascinating mind bend to me :) Consciousness has to be primary, knowing itself knowing itself etc, because otherwise it or anything else couldn't 'be' at all. That's how I'm understanding it anyway, but in the end we're still trying to comprehend the incomprehensible.
@Refulgent_Rascal
@Refulgent_Rascal 7 жыл бұрын
SaketG you only define your friends words still as "outside" your next question should be not only do their words "exist" but when your perception of your friends goes do they exist? According to your perception, no they don't and you don't know if they do either. All your perception only ever occurs within your awareness, which in itself you can perceive because you cannot objectify it.
@lexm2748

"It is a deeply held belief that there is something outside awareness.....We presume that there is an outside world made up of stuff called matter. ....but the belief of a world made of dead stuff called matter existing independently of awareness is simply a belief". But it is a belief that we have to rely on. Let's say I am in deep sleep in my bed and the heavy chandelier above me (being defective) is going to fall over me and kill me. Actually, because I am in deep sleep, it does. So, is was awareness always present? If yes, awareness did not care of my body getting killed. Or because awareness was not present maybe the body is not going to get killed?
@frankclough380

There is something external to consciousness. Information is external to consciousness. The universe is a construction built by the mind through the act of processing this information. Because the 4-D universe we observe is constructed in consciousness we cannot find consciousness anywhere inside this 4-D universe in the same way we cannot find a building by looking inside the building. What consciousness is and where the information it uses to build the 4-D universe comes from is anybody's guess, but whatever your guess might be it is likely to be wrong.

The me that you refer to in your comment is perceived. It is not you. You are that which perceives that "me". And that one has no limits because any limit would be kind of an object perceived. Since you have no forms, you freely take all the forms of experience. Like in a dream when your mind is taking the shape of the world and at the same time enters into this world as a point of view (the apparent dreamed character), through which your mind perceives itself as the world. Free will or volition is an illusion. In fact, from the point of view of the dreamed character, he has free will but in reality, his free will is the echo of the absolute freedom of the dreamer (Awareness). You, awareness, are freely losing yourself in your own creation in order to experience the world. And you can choose, at any moment, to know yourself as you truly are.

@ about 2:50 the "experience of the room" isn't limited only to seeing. The experience also involves touching the *floor* of the room with your feet. The floor consists of some solid material perhaps concrete. Now *there's* an experience. Of course that also is "only a perception." The experience also consists of breathing the air in the room which probably contains dust particles, dander particles, and aroma particles from other humans in the same room. I love simplicity. But sadly it isn't as simple as i would prefer. Thank you Rupert Spira. No offense intended.

Yeah but it doesn't matter if there's one sensation or input from 1000 sensations, all sensations and perceptions are happening in awareness. There is only awareness of it. The interest that is spawned in an individual to practice non duality, is that interest a product of a belief in the truth of non duality. And wouldn't that belief be born out of ego (an unilluminated state) And so then wouldn't the practice of non duality be born from a seed of the ego? The very illusion that it claims the ego to be? To put it simply did this way of life come from the imagination of the mind which is a component of the ego? There's truth in advaita, but one can't help but wonder where did it all begin. Can anyone shed light?

+Ronnie Samaroo you seem to start with the assumption that there IS an ego, then formulate from there what must be so - rather than dump all the psycho-babble and start fresh with a new, present and virgin exploration of your own perception as Rupert is presenting here. Intellectuals, proud of their understanding, will always try to figure it out rather than actually look at their own experience as it presents itself, without preconditions or applying explanations, rules, theories, academic methodology, etc. I hope this doesn't sound too condescending, because it's exactly what I did for the last 40 years, partly because the only teachers I had used some form of intellectualism, intimidation, or customized jargon, always keeping it distant and evasive. We are beginning to see a teacher here and there now, who will come down to our level and talk frankly with us. Rupert is one of those. Mooji is another. Most of them are still in a more or less condescending mode, not really interested in teaching others, but enjoying the attention while keeping it mysterious, clever and philosophical. What I mean to say is, it's not your fault. You've been hoodwinked into overthinking by the complexity of mysticism. 'Ego' is nothing but a projection. It is like thought, or rather is a QUALITY of certain thought patterns. It comes and goes just as thought does, and is not some ever-present "thing" in your consciousness. The 'gurus' have literally projected it onto you by making you worry about it. It was not a problem until they got you obsessed with getting rid of it, or getting it out of the way: resisting, in other words. In this case "resistance" is simply another word for obsession. Forget about it and practice the looking with Rupert here. Look at it this way: being concerned with ego is simply an implanted distraction by other guru's that takes you away from looking in the present at what your experience is. It's obvious that you're more worried about what's going on with this "ego" thing, than doing the experiential journey that Rupert is taking you on. I know it's hard to shake when you've been inundated with the 'ego' BS by guru's you thought were wise. They may even have been wise, but they weren't wise teachers. There's a WORLD of difference.

Ronnie Samaroo yes I too have the same question. I'll put it differently to see if you agree. In a non finite reality only infinite exists which by definition means what we define as "nothing". However, if we are infinite consciousness existing in a finite reality then surely the duality exists. Where it stemmed from is mind-boggling for this reason: The very first thing in any creation is thought. However, since thought doesn't exist in an infinite reality (where we come from. I.e source) then how was the finite reality created and more importantly where did the first thought come from if it doesn't exist in the infinite? The very instant a thought was thought infinite didn't exist anymore. No?

If nothing is real then other people aren't real too. But everyone cannot be real to themselves and unreal to others at the same time. So there is the contradiction right ?
@moonglow6639

The contradiction still stands for me. How can you say others are real and unreal at the same time? Do other people exist for you or are you imagining them? How can you say others are real when you only know your own perception (knowing) of them? Aren't you contradicting yourself here?

If our lived experience from earth is that the sun goes round the earth and that the earth is the centre of the universe ( purely experiential! ) why do we believe that the earth goes round the sun!! 😊

rupert is great but in my opinion he regularly fails to explain this question of whether things exist outside of consciousness. Obviously this woman is referring to the fact that he is sitting in a chair, he probably rode on an airplane to get there, he is wearing one of his shirts. All of things are true and I wish Rupert would say, "I am wearing a shirt right now. There is no reason to try and think that I am not. It's just that we only experience things through consciousness, without consciousness there can be no forms to experience.

You talk to others as if they were real. How do you know they are when you only know the seeing and hearing of them in your own experience? How do you know you are not dreaming ?

Wow. He’s falling into basic philosophical traps. Energy exists, and different people can conduct experiments with energy and observe the same effects, whether or not the others are present. Light a candle, put a magnet on a fridge. Is the energy‘outside awareness’? It’s certainly not within individual awareness alone. Strange arguments.

@@calvinrakotobe5583 I’m a hermeticist and believe I know what he’s alluding to, but he is indeed arguing from individual awareness as though that suffices to establish the point (though the point is far from clear). Though he talks about avoiding solipsism, he does not actually avoid it.

@@smhhms2000He is not arguing from individual awareness. In fact, he states clearly that saying "my awareness" is a mistake. Hence, he implies that awareness is not individual, that it is belonging to no one, not a body, not a mind. He implies that awareness has no limits. If you look closely into your experience, you'll discover that you are that which knows or perceive your experience. And that perceiver is what you are. In ignorance, we believe that we are a body-mind that perceives a world. Hence, we think awareness is limited and defined by the body-mind. But in wisdom, we realize in our experience that body-mind (Thought, feeling, sensation, perception) are perceived, and hence we are whatever it is that perceives the body-mind-world. That true perceiver or knower (Rupert called it awareness), yourself, has no limits because any limit would be known by that one. So, In other words, unlimited awareness (or that which perceives) is what you are ; the person is what you do. It's similar to a dream when our own limited mind assumes the form of the dreamed character through which it perceives itself as the universe. You are already free and happy but a cluster of thoughts and feelings arising on behalf of a non-existent inside self seems to veil this knowledge. Don't allow the knowledge of your being - the knowledge "I am" - to be qualified by your ephemeral and perceived experience (name, form, age, ideology, religion, father, hermeticist, scientific). The pure "I am" is the name of god. Keep it sacred. Don't allow it to be limited by conditioning, affiliation, language, etc. My name is "I". That's all that I am. I'm not always lonely, depressed, 25 years old, a father, a brother, an Advaitin, a French but I'm always "I". "I" cannot be seen. Why? Because I am the seer.
