I’ve always said even if you force the diversity and go overboard with it if you have a good story and is told well it’ll still be good. Also if you have let’s say no diversity at all and the story is the same it’ll still be just as bad. However it can’t be a coincidence that a lot of movies, games and series that have too much diversity or seems forced or pandering to groups 90% end up being corny and cheesy. There’s definitely a connection. When representation becomes so important that you’re building your entire characters and story around it that’s an issue.

The Avengers movies were good because the scripts were decent. But even decent scripts don't keep them going through 20+ movies. For that kind of staying power you need brand recognition + a decent scripts or unforgettable scripts with unforgettable casting. Eternals has nothing but a few actors best known for other work. It's a titanic waiting to happen.
@ferrarriohh3 жыл бұрын
It really is better suited to a Squadron Supreme cast. Copies of Superman, WW, GL & Batman all dropped into the MCU, hilarity ensues. The core idea of Eternals is Indiana Jones X Danikens Chariots of the Gods, so its more of a 3-4 person cast with only 2 godlike beings: Ikaris and Sersi, lovers who fall out of love with each other and chose humans. See Hancock
@metoo75573 жыл бұрын
@@ferrarriohh That doesn't really matter. There's no brand recognition here. Think new coke. I did enjoy the new Dune. However, it was very carefully removed that Lady Jessica "betrayed" the entire sisterhood for a MAN because she loved him. It was turned into she feeling so independent and empowered that she decided to have a son, for herself. Both previous Dune adaptations made Jessica's devotion to Duke Leto obvious. Here, not so much. Chani's behaviour towards Paul also had a "you are worthless" tone. Liet has shown no respect either, not even to Leto on the very important "fck the spice, save the people" moment. It is subtle, but the wokeness is there...
@sivad10253 жыл бұрын

My sister and I played together with toy cars, dolls and what have you. We also played pretend, playing all kinds of characters. She knows she's a woman and I know I'm a man.

1:08:00 you don’t even need to be some globetrotter with 101 stamps in your passport. The creator of Conan and a bunch of other characters never left Texas his whole life, he just had a love for history and understood the world around him. Frank Herbert had a interest in history as well that’s why he made Paul to reflect real conquerors and emperors in how much promise they have and how they end up as a tragedy in many ways. People now just have no concept of history or the world around them so their writing is extremely narrow.

History to modern writers is problematic because everything is viewed through the woke lens of today. The cycle is thus: 1) Ignore history. Dead people are boring snd also dead. Learning is stupid. 2) Take a worthless college elective and learn some random fact (ie Russian society started on a feudal system of slaves who could earn their way to freedom.) 3) Get outraged. Slavery? That’s racist! Russia hates blacks! 4) Make a huge stink on social media about this non-issue and get history books banned or altered to somehow negate the “bad stuff.” 5) Ignore again. History is boring!

"Why Was House Atreides Not Ready to Attack" This discussion beautifully demonstrated two things, 1. that no one on the panel really read the book or remembered it other than in general terms, and 2. that the director screwed up the film. The book explains why very precisely and in detail. Even from the point of view of several characters. Even the television miniseries mentioned it. The new dune is just a visual masturbation, and if we were to compare the key scenes with the book, it would be clear how the whole tone is misinterpreted or changed. The worst interpretation of the Dune. I have a dislike for Lynch's Dune, but this is worse. The fact that everyone so hypes is proof to me how low the bar is now set.

*"Why do they use woke advertisement" CAUSE YOU PROMOTE THEM. And it works even you say they are not good.* You attack the new He-man, and then you buy a he-man toy you didn't even care about before the wokenization. If you want to attack a woke brand you have to almost literally shit on it. Atavic disgust must be burned in the mind of the people that think about that brand, otherwise, there is no such thing as bad publicity and you are promoting them... assuming it's not intentional.

Never heard of this show before, only clicked it because of Drinker and the Longman...I'm subscribed half way through the intro. That was freaking sick.

@Nerdrotic I just noticed how the background artwork at the Eternals premiere looks eerily similar to gallifreyan...

It's pretty incredible that the people making entertainment content so casually blame the people consuming it for not including x or y characters/politics/themes. It's even more incredible that there are brainlets out there that believe them and think their fellow co-workers, neighbors, and average people are responsible for who gets cast in what movie or how a character is written. They find it so easy to blame the faceless audience that pays to see their content smh.

Curious the difference between apocryphal and apocryphic. Maybe apocryphic has one more oxygen molecule

@@apocryphicdeath as far as the chemistry, an example is nitrous oxide (NO) and nitric oxide (NO2), and that pattern in naming shows up in other places

Been a dune fan since I read it in jail years ago. Was super excited for the movie, and mostly loved it. Didn't like where they chose to end it. I love drinkers idea! I watched it with my mother and within 5 mins she asked me to explain what was happening lol. She enjoyed it too, but admitted she wasn't following 100% but I kind of gave her a real-time explanation. Can't wait for part 2.
