"OF COURSE (emphasis mine) morality or ethics are completely subjective" - OMG, the wonders of public "education", and our current societal norms. Took me years, to scrub my own brain clean of that load of gibberish they put in. Morality and ethics, the actual ones (and not some postmodern self-contradictory nonsense), are by DEFINITION universal, aka, cannot be subjective. The "subjective" ones, everybody is focusing on today, are contradiction in terms - just in the way they define them - assigning the opposite meaning to words already meaning something completely different. Linguistic subversion. All that said, I thank you very much for the video and a great summary, which is in my opinion perfectly well reasoned and I applaud your position 👍

I must say my main concern is that it will be used unethically by already rich people to accumulate even more land, hiring people to find and claim the land then sitting back and collecting the rent to their obscene amount of money. I wish I could do this but I doubt they would be happy with a South African/ Irish citizen claiming British soil, though considering history I think it would be poetic justice. I found your videos and quite enjoy them. I hope some good people will use this knowledge to preserve ecosystems or rebuild the lost "common land".

I'm inspired. I once told my mum that I want to own my own land (forest). She told me pretty much that that will never happen (mainly due to finance). But I never forgot that natural desire. I do have one 'beef'. And I guess it's more of a ideological one. When I saw your previous video, where you'd put up a fence and the "Private Land" sign. I understand that that is what is necessary to claim the land. However I hate, (I don't use this word that much) "Private Land" signs. And "No Trespassing" (Remove 'Tresp' for a joke). I feel they are an insult to the land. I have devised who suitable signage in my mind. Ideally you know, land would be "the common treasury for all". Shared lands, for the greater good of the whole biosphere. Plus, how can you 'own' a tree? It owns itself. It makes me think of the 'Right to Roam' campaign kicking off again in Britain. The necessity of change in these times is getting louder and louder. Thanks for your work. I think I'll grab your book on kindle now!
@doooofus2 жыл бұрын
yeah i am a capitalist but that doesnt mean everything should have property rights assigned to it, land isnt created by man's own labour and affect upon the world. what i mean, is that the right to privately own and freely trade private property comes from the incentive structures that govern its creation. if it's something like a car or a phone or whatever, producers are incentivised to create goods/services by the profits they'll be able to reap from doing so. and those profits signal to other producers how wealthy they can become from doing the same. land is not like that. nobody made the land and increases in the price of land don't incentivise new producers of land to enter the market. nobody "deserves" ownership of that land because nobody did anything to create it. the very essence of private ownership of land is itself stealing from the commons.

Hi Kerr, I have bought your book which i have found really helpful. Thank you ! I do have one question which I hope you may be able to shed some light on please.. I'm starting the process of adverse possession to an unregistered 4 acre woodland which comprises of ancient broadleaf trees and coniferous trees which were probably planted in the 80s thanks to a government grant.. nothing has been done to the land since. As I understand with a claim is that one of the conditions is that you should be using the land for what it's intended to be used for, so in this case harvesting the trees fir lumber and firewood (I'm a qualified tree surgeon) but I'm worried that this could also be classed as theft from the land potentially... I considered planting a tree for every tree I cut down. Hope you can possibly help ? Thanks Darren

I don’t understand how you think this could work. You’d have to work it for 10 years to apply for the title, at which point, the owner will be notified and has two years to evict you. You can’t build anything without planning permission and you’ll never get planning permission

Hi Kerr- I’d really appreciate it if you could answer this question: I’ve found a piece of unregistered land. It’s adjacent to farm land. But there is a right of way with an old road surface also immediately adjacent. On ordnance survey the land is labelled as fenced off- black lines all the way around (white- unregistered private property). The right of way is green dotted which the legend says means unknown public right of way. The right of way goes the whole way along one side of the land. Is hugely appreciate the response as I’m pursuing the land immediately.
