The ETIAS Visa you need for traveling to Europe in 2024...don't leave home without it! Knowing where to obtain the ETIAS, the ETIAS application process BEFORE coming to Europe is going to be essential to you for having a great vacation in Europe! Being able to move freely in the Schengen area is one of the reasons Tammy and I love to travel Europe...no customs check/passport control! Obtaining an ETIAS for US citizens is about be become a reality. Vacationing in Europe is a blast...but only if you can get here. Having a US Passport in 2024 will not grant you automatic entry into the Schengen area! You will also need to make sure your passport is good for more than 6 months by the time you land (passport 6 month validity rule).

It is the European version of the ESTA, which we need if we travel to the US.

basically. And of course the US was furious that other countries demand of their citizens similar things that they demand of visitors from those countries.

Thank you for this vlog for family and friends from the US, Canada and the UK. For those of us with dual citizenship we do not need an ETIAS to travel back and forth from the Schengen countries to the US. Yet you must also bring both passports with you because customs will want to check both while you travel to the US on your US passport and back to the NL (or any other Schengen country) with your EU passport. Cheers and have a great day

Hey Eric and Tammy (hope I wrote that right eheh). I have been watching your videos for a while now and I wanted to say that they kick butt! Keeping doing the good fight, it is fun to watch and also informative. can't wait to see the next garbage-haul ^-^ PS. I would recommend renting a car and making a roadtrip through Europe (from the Netherlands to Spain/Portugal par example. Or the other way towards Romania or Greece). That way you get to see a lot of countries at once and it is really cool to be able to drive through without any border checks and the lot. You can also see more of the neat scenery compared to when you are flying.

Please note, in Schengen the ten years is calculated from the date of issue of the passport, which is not necessarily the date of expiry. People have been denied boarding of flights over this, please check.

Ok. Here we go. The Pizzaslicer.😂 You can’t use it in the cardboard, cause you’ll cut carboard into the dough. So, put the pizza on a plate, then use the wheel, or, let everyone just cut the pizza the way they want to. It’s a study at the Delft university nowadays.😅

With regard to passports the rule actually is Passport must be issued within last 10 years Must have at least three months validity beyond the date you intend to exit Schengen area as well as 6 months validity overall, this rule catches out quite a few people.

Hi, I heard you speak of Europe, Schengen, EU, but I just wanted to point out that these are not the same thing. Europe consists of 51 countries, the EU of 27 countries, Schengen also 27 countries (but not the same ones), and to make it more complicated: ETIAS is needed for 30 countries. Not all in the EU (most are), and not all in Schengen either. Why make it simple if you can make it complicated, right?

Ik was wondering that now you have a long term visa in the Netherlands, you also need EITAS for the other Schengen countries (pronounced as [SHENG] + [UHN] btw)? I doubt if you need to because you already have a higher level Schengen visa. But good video to inform other people of this., I didn't hear of it (yet). And is the EITAS for the Schengen countries or the EU?

Did a quick check on the FAQ of the website, if you have a permit/visa to live and work in any country participating in the ETIAS you don't have to get the ETIAS clearance to enter/travel. So Tammy&Eric don't need the clearance when returning from the USA or travelling in other Schengen countries as long as they have their permit to live here.

Interesting stuff. I’m gonna pretend not to be European and get into the Netherlands. BUT, is it true that if you want to apply for US citizinship, you have to, for instance, know all of the American presidents names? Just curious, cause that sounds redicilous.😮 Thanx again four your lovely insight..

at last, a bit reciprocity to balance the mandatory esta visa we require to visit the US. we only need to make it 12 times more expensive in my opinion....for true balance. ;) a small "yaay" for the european union, although i am not a fan of unionized europe. but 7 euro....think we are worth far more than that!! 😂

Why does it take 8 to 10 weeks to get a new passport in the USA? I can get myself a new passport in 5 business days or, in case of an emergency, in a day. This costs extra though. In The Hague a passport costs €77,85. If you apply for your new passport you will immediately get the date when your passport will be ready to be picked up. If you want the 1 day procedure you pay €53 extra.

@bli2008
@bli2008 8 ай бұрын
when you are talking about digital visa, that's another system called EES (entry/exit system); which goes live hopefully begin 2024. So ETIAS is definitely not going live in 2024. I known their planning a bit. We are working on both systems

People from 59 countries, including the US, don't need a Visa to travel to the 30 countries in Europe. To keep track of those people the ETIAS will be introduced. For all other people than the 30 or 59 countries the EES will be in place. Correct?
@bli2008
@bli2008 8 ай бұрын
no, even american (with no visa = short term visa), can stay max 90 days (in total) over a period of 180 days. That means some system has to register this. EES is doing this. you need to register fingerprint and photo (and is valid for the next 3 years). ETIAS is kind of preregistration (similar to ESTA) and the cheque is trying to prevent "blacklisted" individual to enter the area
@bli2008
@bli2008 8 ай бұрын
ofcourse people with "long stay visa" can stay as long as the visum (or verblijfsvergunning) is valid. I think even them has to register in ETIAS everytime the enter, but not in EES
@bli2008
@bli2008 8 ай бұрын
based on pasport scan, the system knows is you don't need fingerprint (eu citizen), still valid or not existing/expired

There’s two things you didn’t address: - If, like you two do, you have a residence permit in an EU country, do you still need to do the ETIAS thing? - If you send your passport to the consulate for renewal and they take 10 weeks, that’s 10 weeks in which you have no legitimate means of identification. In most countries in Europe, including the Netherlands, that’s illegal! You need to be able to provide identification when requested by e.g. the police (though they need a good reason to ask). A driving license is a good alternative, but other than that there aren’t a lot of options.
@flitsertheo
@flitsertheo 8 ай бұрын
If you have a residence permit you don't need to go through ETIAS, you are (somewhat) considered a EU citizen. You get a special ID card (verblijfstitel, Titre de Séjour, etc...) if you have a residence permit. No need for your passport.

It's a good informational video (so I liked it) but migration is a big thing in the Netherlands right now. As expats (are you expats?) you can also talk about the housing problem, people living on the streets. I do not feel unsafe in Rotterdam of Amsterdam but I'm a city slicker. But the last two decades we had an influx of people from everywhere. Migrant workers, refugees, foreign students. And the biggest fear of Rotterdam is: becoming the next Amsterdam. Being multicultural doesn't mean speaking English. We can (Nr. 1 in the world) but not everybody does. On a daily basis I see so many people struggling with the language, the rules of society and it's consequences. Especially Rotterdam was always a small town in a big city and it's still there but more difficult to find. The places you go to are community-based but if you go to the city centre (10 minutes away) you would see a different pattern.I'm really glad you can stay but it is all about the money. You can support yourselves. But you can not stay because of your attitude. You love the Netherlands (as Americans) but in the end..... We've met so I can honestly say at Koningsdag I saw you 2 with T&T and I liked your attitude. But in the end: @eric: learn dutch!

It's not a visa but a visa waiver i.e. if you have the ETIAS, you do not need a visa.
@Ed-tx4zf
@Ed-tx4zf 8 ай бұрын
But ETIAS is only valid for short visits. A permanent visa allows you to stay for a longer period and, based on the type of visa, to work or do different things. Both types of visa however will allow you to travel throughout the Schengen area.
@velovoice47
@velovoice47 8 ай бұрын
@@Ed-tx4zf I think you've misunderstood what I said. There are a wide range of visas, dependent on circumstances, and if you fit those circumstances, you have to get a visa and you have to get the right one. ETIAS applies to those visits to the EU when you do NOT need a visa, because you're a tourist, or transiting through, or in other short-stay and temporary situations that are clearly defined on the ETIAS website. The EU describes ETIAS as a visa *waiver" for this very reason - it's to prescreen and keep track of everybody who is not entering with a visa.
