Great Work there Martin thank you, we've watched lots of your content and always enjoy your style of mini movies. Accepting that I may sound a little rebellious with what hopefully you are about to read , Im worried this exaggerated net zero game we are suffering could be influencing the ETIAS. Look at the 3 year requirement to renew, if the point of entry is not able to be changed I suggest that this is a manipulation to restrict travel. Let us say you choose Dover Calais and your stuck with that for 3 years then we wont also be able to go the say Greece direct on another trip. interesting thought ? Keep on Keeping on Jon C

Yes it is another layer of administration . If it's any consolation we have used the similar US System ESTA quite a few times and you do quickly get used to it . The UK brings it's own system in soon so it will be pretty standard soon throughout the world. Thanks for watching Trev best wishes , see you next week Helen and Martin

It will be interesting to see if the port of entry into the Schengen zone will be amenable as we sometimes travel across from Hull if visiting Holland and northern Germany but a lot of our crossing are via the tunnel, ( good old Tesco points). Good informative video Martin keep up the god work.

Great vlog Martin thank you. Some of the reasons given, such as boarder control, will have little to no effect. It won't save any time at boarders. I just worry that the data I enter will get hacked as with many examples of business and even government dBases, electronic life eh 😂 Hey ho, more control over our lives. Mick

Hi Mick - I agree completely and having used the visa waiver system in the US fairly often it certainly won't reduce delays and as for the data scrapping that is going on currently, well it's a scandal. The trouble is we have our minds on the wrong things I suspect , I walked past a row of newspapers in the Supermarket yesterday and scanned all the headlines and noted that they were all sensationalist tosh and nothing that drew my attention as being important. Meanwhile as you say creeping controls. Best wishes Mick and happy travelling Helen and Martin

Great information without politics. I retured from the EU last night via Harwich, I asked NL Customs about etias, but they were unaware about this system! I have a German residence permit as my Wife is German and we have a second house in Bayern, so I want to know if I need to apply for etias? I feels like there is a lot still to happen before it goes live.

Hi Martin. Interesting explanations thanks and realise your views are based on information currently available. Again I know you will not have answers to a couple of questions ETIAS raises. Will Shengan subjects need to complete similar documentation to enter the UK and secondly having a partner with dual nationality UK/Spanish what is your view on the difficulties this may raise. To explain, assume she goes home to Spain using Spanish passport (reason to this would be to not use up 90 availability as she may visit family on her own for an extended period, whilst in the same period would travel Europe with myself a UK passport holder keeping within the 90 day allowance ).I know you cannot know the definitive answers, but would value your view? Thanks Paul 👍

Hi Paul - This is an link to the Governments plans for the UK system which seems imminent - www.gov.uk/guidance/electronic-travel-authorisation-eta#:~:text=An%20Electronic%20Travel%20Authorisation%20(ETA,electronically%20linked%20to%20your%20passport. What a complex landscape we now have . It is my understanding that you can travel unrestricted with your wife on her Spanish Passport within Schengen , if she is with you. If not the 90/180 applies. This link is interesting - www.spanishpropertyinsight.com/2021/04/14/brits-married-to-eu-citizens/. I am not an expert, but I would have thought that travel in and out of a country of citizenship would be unaffected in terms of duration of stay. Sorry if this sounds evasive, I have always advocated taking specific advice from official sources rather than 'social media' experts, hence why I reference where my information is from and I haven't seen anything from on line sources to suggest this would be a problem to you. But perhaps an email to the border authorities once the go live information is out there is prudent. Hope that helps best wishes Helen and Martin

Do you know Martin if as an Irish passport holder I will need to fill out an etias to go to Spain from England. I don't think Ireland is a Schengen country.
@HelenandMartinsTreks
@HelenandMartinsTreks 8 ай бұрын
Hi , from my reading the answer is no - this sentence from the House of Commons library I found - Ireland will not be operating either EES or the ETIAS system . However, neither of these systems will apply to Irish passport-holders when travelling to EU or Schengen countries. This is the link if you want to read the full document in full commonslibrary.parliament.uk/the-eu-entry-exit-system-and-eu-travel-authorisation-system/#:~:text=Ireland%20will%20not%20be%20operating,to%20EU%20or%20Schengen%20countries. Hope that helps and thanks for watching , best wishes Helen and Martin,

We are planning to travel into France / Spain for the winter, probably arriving back in the UK February. So my assumption is that if we are already there when this system becomes live, it won’t affect us, but that we would require authorisation for next trip. Tina
@HelenandMartinsTreks
@HelenandMartinsTreks 8 ай бұрын
Hi Tina , that it's my expectation to, as it will also apply to our circumstances , there is also talk of a lead in time so maybe six months from the announcement date. I also read today that there is so pressure to start after the Paris Olympics as not wanting to stress the new system to soon. This is only media talk though and whilst it seems rational I can't verify in an official statement or report. Hope that helps, thanks for watching. Helen and Martin

Great topic Martin when the ETIAS was first talked about we were under the impression that there would be a 7 euro a day travel tax and that they would require fingerprints. Is there any truth in this.
@HelenandMartinsTreks
@HelenandMartinsTreks 8 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching , nothing mentioned in the ETIS documentation that I read from official sources about the daily tourist tax . I would have thought that would be an EU issue not a Schengen Issue. Travel Tax is becoming such a wide spread issue , even proposals in the UK I've seen recently. There is talk of biometrics being collected as part of the new ESS Entry and Exit programme, which ETIAS will be linked to and fingerprints could be included in this , unless they progress to retina scanning. There won't be biometrics requested as part of the ETIAS application though. The US system does require fingerprints and photographs to be taken of course on entry , so it's not an outlandish suggestion at all. I can't be sure 100% but I think finger pint scanning is a possibility. Best wishes Helen and Martin

ETIAS is scheduled to start in May of 2025, but it could get delayed again. I know France wants it delayed because of the Paris games, so they should be thrilled about the delay.

In stating the obvious important to note that the British government under Cameron were one of the biggest supporters to charge non-EU nationals to enter the EU area and obtain prior authorisation to do so... Interesting how things work out... €7 for three years pp and an online application to my mind is not too onerous
@HelenandMartinsTreks

It is interesting indeed and I agree the fee isn't onerous. Either way being visitors to the Zone , if we want go we will have to follow the rules I guess. For us most of our travel is to Europe and this won't stop us. Let's hope things get less restrictive with time. Thanks for watching and commenting. Helen and Martin.
