I have the earlier 2K single camera doorbell as well as a 2C camera. They both worked great for a year or so. I'd typically get 10-15 notifications a day as the cameras face down the driveway and picked up people walking along the sidewalk. Then I noticed there were delays to get the notifications. And then the 2C stopped picking up a lot of events. Now the doorbell typically picks up the postman when he puts the mail in and walks away. But, I don't see the face. And the 2C which is 30ft to the side, also doesn't pick up people approaching. When I contacted Eufy as to why things suddenly changed and what to do their answer was to ask people to approach slower. So, I'm on the hunt for something more reliable.

Lost huge faith in Eufy since the security breach and then lying about it to cover it up. Since then swapped to unfi and love it.

@@LonSeidman self-hosted (at least as an option) is what many of us want. Unfortunately that desire is incompatible with the business models chosen by device brands. My solution is to use a zigbee/zwave doorbell sensor on a traditional door bell chime to homeassistant. A separate camera can be polled for a camera feed as needed.

I have a Eufy doorbell model similar to the one reviewed here but it’s a single camera version with battery. If you have adequate wiring in place it can be setup to keep the battery topped off or simply operate via main power. In the event of power loss the battery can keep the camera going. IIRC, there are two base station options which are necessary for network connection and storage. One option is the basic 8GB solid state storage and the other option accepts a standard 3.5” SATA HDD. There is even a battery option for the basestation so if there is a power outage the base station stays up too. Also note that Eufy has a package secure lock box product but if you feel like you really need that IMO it might be better just to move😊

I've been using the previous version of that doorbell (the single camera) since late 2020 and have been very happy with it. I have it hardwired to my doorbell like you described, so it triggers the electrical physical doorbell chime in the house and it charges the battery. I use the home base as a 2nd chime in the basement. I didn't realize you can use your Amazon device as yet another chime, that's good to know. With all of Eufy's stuff you get a lot of value out of the product for very little money since they don't force you to subscribe to a monthly service. The downsides I've noticed (I have a few of their cams as well) is the software can be glitchy especially after some updates, customer support for problems isn't great, and the hardware only lasts a year or 2. My doorbell went bust about a year in, but warranty claim it was replaced with no problems. They're not perfect, but generally been pretty happy with all their products.

I have this and it misses people coming to my porch about half the time, especially if they just drop a package at the edge of the porch above the steps. If I set the sensitivity higher I get notified of cars going down the street and still it misses some people. My ring doorbell worked a lot better. Also the battery lasts about half as long.

I was lucky enough to find a clear path to get Cat6 to next to my front door so I have the Pro Ubiquiti doorbell. Like continuous recording and hosting all my data in house. On the side door, no such path for Ethernet but I tapped into the wiring there and embedded a transformer in the wall to power the wireless Ubiquiti doorbell. I value continuous recording as cameras around the house are not just about security but also curiosity about what’s going on.

I have the e330 version and I have both the chime and the base station chimes as well. I have the older base station so I don’t have the continuous recording function but I agree I have been very pleased with it. I did buy the WeMo to replace my wired doorbell but it would not work properly. (Based on what I’ve heard the transformer adapter in the box is incorrect for my ancient doorbell.)

We’ve got one of the older models with a single camera. in the same boat, no power for a doorbell. ours has worked great. just have to pull it off the wall and charge it about every 6 months. Hopefully i can run a wire when we renovate the room near the door. I like how both power sources are an option.

hi, thank you, I found your review useful. I have a question - coming from another manufacturer, I had an event where I spoke to the person near the doorbell perfectly fine, I was not home at the time and we agreed on where to leave the parcel (I used the call button to initiate the conversation) but after the interaction there is no video proof of that saved in the events. Why is this and how do I work around it? Thank you!

Appreciate how in-depth this review was, thanks! Have you considered installing Home Assistant? It takes smart devices like this to a whole new level, and it would be useful to see how you can integrate the doorbell with other smart products. I really think that documenting your own journey of installing and learning Home Assistant would make useful content for others in a similar situation who are tech savvy but haven't taken that step of bringing together all their disparate smart devices.

I'm happy with my eufy doorbell cam, except for one thing, there is significant delay after someone rings the doorbell until the chime sounds. Mine is hard wired, so it's not battery related.

Lon, have you contacted a Security installer to see if they could get a wire to your door? Depending on the company they might have a lot of tools and experience getting wires into hard to reach places. If battery power is a must, have you tested the TP-Link TD25? Does this Eufy camera work with any of the industry standards like ONVIF or maybe the new Matter protocol for home automation systems? I've been using the Reolink Video Doorbell which in ONVIF compatible. Works offline and can integrate with other offline products.

I have been looking for a video doorbell without a subscription. I have yet to reach an acceptance level where I have to pay a subscription to use basic hardware functionality. I do understand offering a subscription option for remote cloud storage, but I don't like it when a subscription is an operational requirement with home security devices.

Lon, thanks, as always, for the great review…We had a dead Ring Doorbell [1st gen] and just replaced it with this. And ALMOST all our security cameras and monitored alarm are now Eufy. I do have a 2 page list of issues and suggestions for them… but, I have that kind of list for everything. So, I would do almost anything Eufy…. I just wish they had much, Much, MUCH better HomeKit Secure Video support. This MAY be an apple problem. But on the FEW Eufy products that support HomeKit Secure video it then DISABLES ALL of the Eufy AI features. That is REALLY frustrating, but I would LOVE for the Apple TV to show Eufy cameras and also pop up when someone is at the door. at some point could you reach out to Eufy and ask them about their HomeKit kinks? They never reply in a meaningful way to us… Thanks again. - Eric ZORK Alan & Sweetie [ 🤣Professional🤣Poets & Bed 🛏️ & Beer🍺 Vloggers ]

Its not worth the upgrade from the S330 dual. It has the same resolution & response time delay. It needed to be 4K. Whilst the removable battery is useful to swap out when charging it drains too fast with the LED enabled. The AI recognition is a bit better on the E340, detecting pets for example. The audio has alot of background noise suppression compared to the S330. Also the blue ring light doesn't activate when it detects motion which it does on the S330, so when the lights turn on it makes it difficult to see where to press the bell. I haven't seen anyone test the pre-roll on the E340 which is a feature that only works when hardwired. If your internet goes down then the doorbell via the app goes offline too, altho the doorbell outside will ring & the footage will be recorded its just not viewable until the internet connection is back online. If you have a porchlight then the LED & colour night vision is of no use. On the E340 if you turn off the infrared you will get colour night vision when the porchlight activates. So its a bit of a gimmick.

Can this be operated as a 'stand-alone' device with no internet connection? I'd rather just have it record when and who comes up to my front door and not put it on the web. It's tough to find a device that does not have some type of internet connection, just my preference for things.

You can also have it send a thumbnail snapshot notification of the video the moment the camera detects something. Which is way quicker than opening the camera app to see what is going on. Of course to watch the full video you need to open the Eufy app.
