Great review. One year in with 2C and no homekit and the battery life hasn't changed, it was never 6 mths though especially if you use high sensitivity which you need to. (Im recharging the busiest came every 2 mths). Not too bad. Eufy can miss some motion, which is its only disappointment. Not sure why. Also snooze doesn't seem to work, tested with its light and it always comes on, alerts and records anyway. Otherwise its a great product. Love the alerts and remote capabilities.

Note: Initially the TV makers were using the horizontal numbers 720p, 1080i, 1080p. But someone decided to use the larger vertical line count when 4K TVs came out. In TV resolution 1080p is 1080 horizontal lines by 1920 (2K rounded) vertical lines. 4K (2160 x 3840) is twice 2K and 8K (4320 x 7680) is twice 4K. They'll have to do some fudging when they get to 16K as that will only have 15,360.

Great channel, Shane! I’ve found a number of your videos super helpful. I just wanted to pass along my experience with the EufyCam 2 pro with Homekit. I’ve had my cameras up for 31 days and the one that gets a lot of use on the front of the house over the driveway was down to 9% after these 31 days. Lol. I guess no big deal, since I charged it up this afternoon, but it did take about 7 hours to get back to 100% charge. The one on the side of the house that gets very little traffic, mostly birds and bunnies and the dog patrolling the yard is still at 86%. Thanks for all that you do here!

The reason you got difference in performance for recordings. First, the camera was very high! Eufy recommend 2 meters at a push. The other reason is that the cams use a motion based sensor vs infrared on the Evecam and circle camera.
@ShaneCreates4 жыл бұрын
Yea that’s true. Although my camera wasn’t that high. 11 feet. They recommend 7-10 feet. It was just too far to capture motion from the front of the yard. Also true about motion based vs infrared sensors. Regardless, I don’t think most people care HOW the motion is detected...they just want to ensure everything is captured that should be. All in all they all did a pretty good job, with the exception of Eufy missing some action here and there. Seemed to have more issues recording in HomeKit. I just wanted to compare to other HSV cameras to make sure it wasn’t just a “HomeKit” issue, as we all know there can be problems on that end as well.

As 2k is actually 2048×1080, I’m not sure why they call it like that. 2K is just FHD but 21:9 instead of 16:9. Same fur UHD and 4K. When the resolution of the cam is instead higher, they are under selling ist. But never the less, resolution on paper is not the limiting factor, it’s the Bitrate, compression and overall quality of the sensors. Just look at good FHD BluRay footage and you‘ll see that all the resolution buzz isn‘t worth it (higher data volumes, more processing power, smaller pixels on sensor = more noise,...)

Do you prefer the eufy 2k camera or the Logitech’s circle view. I’m a huge HomeKit bran.
@ShaneCreates4 жыл бұрын
Tough call. I think each has their pros and cons. Personally, if I can wire a camera, I will usually prefer that. Then you don't have to worry about recharging batteries. And the Circle View camera performs great and does just what it's supposed to do. But sometimes running a power cord is hard or even impossible, which is where the Eufy is awesome. As far as performance in HomeKit, I'd say the Circle View is is more reliable recording in HomeKit Secure Video. My Eufy Cams still don't record much of the action in HomeKit. However, they do perform great in the Eufy app and record much better there. And then you have the local storage options available with the Eufy Cam Base Station that you don't get with Circle View. So I think it's about deciding what features are most important to you, and decide from that. Hope this helps.

Hey Terry, good questions. I suppose you can plug it in permanently, as the camera does still seem to operate and record when plugged in. That is one reason but also to have all of your smart home stuff in the same place. It's much easier to use the home app to view a camera, then turn off the driveway light, for example, all in the home app rather than having to switch between apps. Also, you can use automations in HomeKit. When the camera detects motion, turn on the driveway light.

Personally, I don’t worry too much about sticking to a certain brand, unless it’s for something that may require a hub, like sensors or lights. That’s the beauty of HomeKit. All the brands all work fine together in HomeKit. With that said, some of the brands I like are Lutron Caseta for switches, Aqara or Abode for sensors. Eve, Logitech, Nanoleaf, and VOCOlinc to name a few others

Hey Shane, I’m close to pulling the trigger on a set of these at Costco. Being one year later, have they fixed any of the quirks you mentioned in this video and is there any other HomeKit outdoor cam that you would recommend for a first time buyer? You are a valuable resource to this community.
@ShaneCreates2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the kind words. I am still using them and I can recommend them. The only other outdoor HomeKit camera that I use and can recommend is the Logitech Circle View cameras. But they are not wireless and require a power source. I hear good things about Arlo (also wireless) but they do not support homeKit Secure Video and they rely largely on an Arlo subscription, which is why I don't use them.

Thanks for excellent video. Do you have experience with a magnetic mount. Magnet is very strong, however the holder with a ball for camera is really very badly designed. How to fix the holder firmly to the wall? Have you any idea?
@ShaneCreates3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I'm not sure. I just installed mine as directed and it's stayed in place fine. Of course you'll want it placed somewhere that it won't get messed with.

@@ShaneCreates Thank you Shane. I found very risky to fix 120$ camera to the holder by sliding up the holder 1,5 mm only. There is no reason to release the holder from the wall very often, because the camera can be taken easily from the magnetic holder for charging.

Can you please review Eufy Cam 3 Solar if it works with HomeKit?
@jaimecunha79014 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you have an answer for this, but my EufyCam 2 Pro cameras are only recording 1-5 seconds of video in HomeKit Secure Video. The Eufy App records fine. My indoor Eufy 2k camera also records fine under HKS. Not sure if it's something to do with the wireless cameras, since the indoor cameras are wired. I was using the indoor camera with Homekit only and they worked great, no Eufy app installed, before buying the outdoor cameras. Hopefully this is solved soon. Otherwise, Homekit Secured video is useless to me. I have to rely on the Eufy app, which I didn't want to do. I was hoping to just use Homekit and not have to even have the Eufy app installed.
@ShaneCreates4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jaime, yea I've been experiencing similar things. Even as shown in the video, the HomeKit recordings were inconsistent and got cut short often. It does record well in the Eufy app. Not sure the problem but hopefully they push an update to fix this soon.

I've been running the Homebase 2 with four Eufycam 2 Pro cameras. The results in terms of quality day and night, sensitivity, etc have all been great. However, I experienced nothing even remotely close to 365 days on charge, actually seeing more 3-4 months, even with the cameras set to Optimal Battery Life mode. I opted to go with the solar panels for each camera, and that has been enormously successful, keeping each camera at a full charge.

Which do you think is better the Arlo Pro 3 or the Eufy 2 pro? Why?
@ShaneCreates3 жыл бұрын
Well Arlo doesn't support HomeKit Secure Video, which is something I typically go for when looking at HomeKit cameras. Plus they require a subscription for many features, if I recall correctly. (I should note that I don't have any Arlo cameras). But I've heard Arlo is great if you are ok with their subscription model. Personally, I'd rather not buy into another subscription just for my cameras.

Hey Shane, have you noticed any improvement on the motion detection of the EufyCam over the last 8 months? Looking to get some outdoor cameras for the new house. Love the fact that they are wireless. I think I would prefer the Logitech, but don’t really want to deal with trying to run wires.
@ShaneCreates3 жыл бұрын
Logitech is great if you can deal with the power source. It's nice not to have to worry about charging batteries. The Eufy recording is still not the best in homekit, but it does a good job in the Eufy app. As long as the camera is placed in a good location as recommended, it should do fine in the Eufy app.

the 2k pro is wireless and can be used outdoors, other than that does it offer anything more than the 2k indoor in terms of picture quality and features? thanks!

For the most part, I think that's about it. Picture quality should be the same or very similar. The biggest difference, other than what you mentioned, is that these connect to the Eufy base station whereas the indoor cameras connect directly to wifi.

from Amazon questions: How many cameras may be connected to each base station, and may more than one base station be used in a single home? Answer: Up to 16 cameras can be connected to each base station. And multiple Homebases can be used in a single home and handled in the same eufy account.
