This review helped me avoid wasting money and succumbing to the maker's marketing hype. Thanks Nick!

I knew exactly how this was going to go when I heard “this is actually going to be quick review because...yeeaahh.” Damn. Mine’s already en route. I was captivated by the anodized aluminum pen-for-life concept that will accept virtually any refill I choose. Plastic innards?! I’ll remember to check back before I grab another over-priced EDC pen.

so what pens are worth buying?
@danniecarmona25094 жыл бұрын
I've had one for about 3 years and have the G2 refill in it. Everyone who borrows it at work for a minute just loves the way it feels in the hand and writes. I think your paying a little bit more for the life time guarantee. I recently lost the clicker cap because it unscrewed and i wasn't making sure it was tight the company is sending me a brand new one and the color of my choice. If your a fan of the Pilot G2 pen refills you'll want to get this pen and it also comes with a spacer for shorter length refills. I only wished this came in a titanium metal then it would be perfect.

I have this pen. It's either very soft aluminum or the clip threads were drilled too large. The clip screws stripped out just from the clip tension without ever using the clip. Your review is spot on.

I was surprised to hear you say "Jotter" as today's marketing omits that word, if memory serves. Back "in the day", it was "T-ball Jotter." Parker still puts it out and I like mine. Good review Nick.

I have a Parker Jotter because of your review, now that's a true value pen. The clicky mechanism sounds and feels solid for the price, and it takes refills that are high quality and easy to find.

Absolutely, it's the best EDC pen out there for 90% of the world.

thank you, your channel is the one channel that makes you real in your spending rather than every other channel than makes you want to spend more. When you say it is good we know it is truly good since most of the time you toe the line of being over critical...but that's how I rather think
@andyrichardson61886 жыл бұрын
Got the wife one of these for Christmas to be used as EDC outdoors. Wish I had waited for your review. She doesn't hate it, and likes the clip much better than the Jotter for work. The rest of it she could take or leave. Agree with your conclusions.

Dead on with the concern on plastic parts. Already had the part that holds the clicker cap break. Company sent me a new pen, but I've realized just how cool and reliable my Kaweco Sport is.

I wish I would have seen this review of this pen before purchasing for $35. I'd rather just use a Pilot G2. Your description of a corporate giveaway hits the nail on the head! Feels like it's just missing the Bank of America logo.

Thank you for saving me money! For some reason I was trying to convince myself out of just getting the Parker Jotter I loved back in the day and modding my current fave EnerGel 0.3 refills to work in it. I can buy the Jotter, another refill (I have plenty already) an extra parker-style refill to steal the turn mech off of and a Signo to steal the spring out of (all based on reddit instructions) and STILL save money on not buying this "aggressively mediocre" pen. Thank you!

It’s a nice pen for someone who never thought they’d spend more than they did on a space pen. The problem is the tip bends and you have to screw with it trying to scrap more material out to make it retract when clicked. It feels nice but it’s too soft (and maybe all aluminum pens are).

well, damn. i wish i'd seen this review before I bought one...although I will say that I didn't fall victim to the aggressive hype you mentioned in your vid. i only fell for the moderate "since you looked at this you should look at THIS" marketing on amazon :-( I agree with your conclusions. the clip is now a little more integral than the screw-on set up on yours, but the scratchy action and the numerous "vanilla" attributes of the pen leave much to be desired. it really can't be said better than your "aggressively mediocre" assessment. well put, sir.

You would probably be very happy with this if all you've ever used is Bic stics, Uni-ball Signos, and Pilot G2s. The price is a little high but at least it includes a Parker converter (Tiscribe charges $10). Even at, say, $25 dollars for the pen itself it's pricey compared to common "buy for life" pens like the Parker Jotter, Retro 51 Tornado, Fisher Space Pen, or CRKT Williams. The main problem seems to be not that it's a bad pen but that it's yet another overhyped and overpriced kickstarter EDC product.
@waykno84786 жыл бұрын
Oh, and I believe Waterman owns Parker.
@bradleyh80446 жыл бұрын
Any machined pen in this price/quality range must reckon with the venerable Zebra F-701 (after modding, of course). On the subject of marketing: unfortunately the kickstarter pen market is rife with this kind of misleading marketing designed to target non-enthusiasts. A perfect example of this is the Pen Addict's experience with the makers of the Visionnaire a few years ago.
@Tom_H3276 жыл бұрын
Brad Hutchison I wrote Zebra directly and also left a review of the F-701 on their website, to ask if they could include the mods (canabalizing the F-402 metal parts). The direct approach garnered a response in which they used a lot of corporate lingo and economic jargon to tell me to F off. Lol
@bradleyh80446 жыл бұрын
Not surprising, actually. Zebra is a Japanese pen manufacturer, and as a result, doesn't always think the nicest things about American consumers (see Brad Dowdy's extensive rants on the subject). This leads to some really unfortunate corporate logic like: "why would we put a good refill in this American market pen? Why offer anything smaller than .5 in American stores?" They still don't use the kind of marketing these Kickstarter pens sometimes use. Zebra doesn't claim it's a "buy it for life" pen, and they certainly don't engage in this kind of bullshit tactical pen jargon. They also sell the 701 for less than $10 if I recall.
@SerialEater2743 жыл бұрын
"aggressively mediocre" I love it.
@adragontattoo6 жыл бұрын
I have one of these pens. It is a metal clad Bic pen effectively and honestly feels like it. The internals are literally the same ones as every clicker that every company has as an ad. There is nothing special or outstanding about this pen. If it had metal internals instead of plastic, it might be decent but it is cheap feeling, with cheap parts at a non cheap price.
@eurohit6 жыл бұрын
You should try mass production of custom Darriel Caston D Rocket Bolt Pen - Böker Plus Rocket Pen. For unobtrusive pen many things are made right there. Deep pocket clip, one piece body, a mechanism is fun to play with. Cons: the clip should be wider and more tough than it is and the edge of the pen is too wide and blunt to my taste, so it's not easy to follow your writing. It comes with a low quality no name Parker type refill. I got mine here www.bladehq.com/item--Boker-Plus-Rocket-Pen-Black-09BO065--77357
@mountainhobo6 жыл бұрын
That pen looks nice, but this kills me: "The Boker Plus Rocket Pen offers a tactical design [...]". Imagine buying a pen and then one of your friends accidentally reads that. I could not live it down, people would laugh for months. We are talking permanent damage.

@MatthewMorse6 жыл бұрын
I wrote a review of the original Grafton which was, somehow, significantly worse than this one in just about every way. They then sent me a review of the 2.0, which you have there. And it’s significantly better than the original, but is still, as you put it, mediocre. That pen, as a whole, just sort of left me feeling “meh.” I will say, though, that the difference between the first and second versions shows promise as far as their ability to make improvements is concerned.
