This movie is so unique and a lot of that comes from the budgetary limitations. I love the way that almost all of the backgrounds at night are totally black and empty - it wasn't a stylistic choice for the most part, they simply couldn't afford to light the entire area... But it creates this effect like they're surrounded by a murky abyss from which anything could emerge without warning. It keeps the tension high but gives the characters a chance to get some nice facetime because there's nothing to distract from their performances.

If you think about it: This is actually an absolute masterpiece of film making. It has been created by very young filmmakers (in their 20s) as a small project with a very low budget. However, despite the low budget and their inexperience, they've created such amazing splatter effects as well as super suspenseful and eerie atmosphere (incl. the great sound).

Yeah, it's a total binge worthy show. It has a perfect mixture of horror and comedy and it's simply so much fun. I also love the actors that play Pablo and Kelly, such great characters. It's only 3 seasons with 30 episodes I believe, so it wouldn't take them too long to get through it and it would be awesome to see someone else react to this amazing gem of a show. I've only seen one channel do the whole series on KZbin (Sithfurion). Cinema Rules did just the first season and stopped. Can you imagine that? Just when it starts getting good. I was pissed. It would just be nice to get a different perspective on it. Honestly, I'm not going to hold my breath. I suggest it to people all the time and I've been disappointed too many times.

@@Deadite_Scholar Yeah, season 3 is the best one, I liked the daughter element in that season. Also, was he ever really that smart in the movies. I mean Army of Darkness he couldn't even remember 3 words and at one point he drinks scolding hot water and in the first one he's trying to give water to a dead man. So he was never really the brightest guy around you know. @@robertmolton6761 As a diehard Evil Dead fan, I've always pushed back against the idea that Ash was an idiot in the film series. Now did he do some stupid things sometimes? Sure. He forgot the words in Army of Darkness, but I always chalked that up to arrogance. I don't think this should negate the fact that Ash made gunpowder with his high school science text book, built a functioning gauntlet hand, transformed his car into a steam powered death coaster and orchestrated a successful military campaign against the dead. With few exceptions, I've always viewed Ash as an incredibly smart and capable character.

Is NOT a franchise. 🚨 IMPORTANT FACT 🚨 Ash DEFINITELY DIES at the end of The Evil Dead (1981), it's ABSOLUTELY a SELF-CONTAINED story, 100% a STANDALONE film, it has NOTHING TO DO with the rest, CONFIRMED by Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Fede Alvarez. Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness and Ash vs. Evil Dead are DIFFERENT UNIVERSES, none of them is connected in ANY WAY to The Evil Dead (1981).

Milk and oatmeal ... if you didn't like them before, well, all hope is lost after seeing this movie. Have to say, this low budget film showed so much promise and talent from Sam Raimi, it's actually kind of phenomenal. So many things in Evil Dead are wonderfully clever and unique and cool. My favorite of the trilogy is 2 because it is so cartoony and fun. But a warning to newbies to these flicks: Evil Dead 2 kind of starts with a recap of the 1981 film but they had to film it new because they didn't have access to the original movie for some reason. So, some viewers thought that it was part of the second movie and not a "previously" sequence. It's hard to explain. Raimi did some interesting things: Darkman, Oz the Great and Powerful, and more. I first saw this movie in college in the mid 80s on VHS. I was revolted, LOL. But I saw signs of a director and writer with promise. I enjoy certain things in Evil Dead: Cheryl's demon voice in the cellar is delightfully spooky and unsettling (mimicking Scott: "You're not gonna leave me, _are_ you, Ash?") The musical score is really effective, and kind of poignant at times and scary at others. There are artsy touches peppered in there, like that exterior of the cabin at night with the full moon which becomes obscured with a dark liquid that blossoms over the sphere. Super reaction here, loads of fun to watch you two flinching and laughing and jumping. 😄

I will never understand people who say to skip Evil Dead 1 and to start the series with Evil Dead 2, it just doesn't make sense. Evil Dead 2 is NOT a remake, do not be fooled by the recap at the start of it. Bruce Campbell himself said the best way to start 2 is at the part with the Evil entity moving through the woods and hits Ash.

Evil Dead has stayed with me since. Great reaction! That was a rough watch, I could see plainly you two were as disturbed and freaked out as I was! And that scream from Sam...instant classic! Hooah! for making it all the way through in one piece, guys! ( :E

Linda's demon makeup was originally much darker and traditionally more demon-like before the changed it to the baby doll face. You can see her original makeup when she's being dragged out of the house because that was all shot before her inside scenes when she fights with Ash

Yes, yes, yes. There are so many awesome B-movies from the 80s, when B-movies still showed up in theaters and didn't go straight to DVD. Everything from the "Ernst" franchise to the "Critters" franchise. Sure they were cheap and derivative. But like "The Evil Dead," B-movies are where great filmakers and actors cut their teeth.

Hello Schmitts!! That was probably the most fun I've had yet watching one of your reactions. Absolutely hilarious. As other people have said, after this it gets more comedic although still with plenty of blood lol. Raimi and company's background when they made films together in high school was always comedies but when they went to make their first feature they chose horror because it horror was cheap to make and was very much rising in popularity at the time. Highly recommend you guys continue with the series including the tv show and the 2013 remake which is very worthwhile. Fun fact about this movie and its grossness, Lucy Lawless (star of Xena) said she saw this when it came out and she thought "the people who made this movie must be the sickest people on the planet" and years later she ended up married to one of them (producer Rob Tapert) and working with them a lot (Tapert and Raimi produced Xena, Spartacus and Ash vs the Evil Dead all of which Lawless is in). And yes, the opening of Evil Dead 2 is a pseudo-remake of the original and the do a similar thing on the 3rd one as well so the continuity with these movies never *quite* lines up exactly but it's ok they're just for fun!

We watched this movie SO MANY times when I was in college, my favorite thing was showing this to new people who hadn't seen it, and now I kind of get to do it again through YT reaction vids. If you watch part 2 (better/funnier/higher budget) keep in mind that they did not have the rights to the first one, so the first 20 minutes is a refilm/recap of the 1st one so it can stand alone. the 2nd one actually starts when Ash is hit by the evil and flies through the air, then it lines up perfectly with end of 1st one. The 2nd one ends at the start of Army of Darkness

This is why I think older horrors are better. They didn't have the fancy graphics that today's movies have, and so they had to be more creative with better acting, better story, better use of the camera, and better use of music. Today's movies are still fun, but they rely on graphics to much instead of good story telling and use of creative camera and sound.

It's so much fun. It's very similar in his editing of the Spiderman Trilogy Sam Raimi made. I can't wait for your reactions to Part 2 and Part 3 (Army of Darkness). I really do hope if you guys enjoyed this trilogy that you guys watch "Ash Vs. The Evil Dead" Series. I think each episode is 30 minutes and it's so much fun! Also, hope you guys also check out the remake of Evil Dead. It's actually really good but on a different level. Loved this video. Long live the Chin.

Perhaps equal to the gore, what made this film so amazing was the audio. So many studios drop the ball on this now comparatively speaking with some of the older horror films. The sound effects in general are awesome, his girlfriends laughter and verbalization in general are some of the most terrifying sounds IMO ever caught on film.
