Historical correction, Breaking came from the Bronx. Popping & Locking came from LA & The Bay.

Its still confused me on what styles of dance can you call hiphop? Is it only bboying? Or you can call popping and locking hiphop as well?
@chavoloco91 Жыл бұрын
@@domafronoy2004 they are both Street dances but hip hop dance is party rocking and breaking, popping and even more so locking are older social dances come from The Bay and So-Cal. the 2 are distant cousins from opposite coasts. the reason that Popping was so closely related to breaking, was because of the boogie boys/electric boogie dancers (breaking & popping fusion) from NYC , and the media painting them all with one brush. Most breaking crews had 1 or 2 poppers on the roster and therefore the dances were labelled as "hiphop" by the media. So while it's not completely untrue to call popping HipHop, it's more true to call it a Funkstyle or BRS (Boogaloo, Robot, Struttin) or to just call it popping.

Thinking of Olympic breaking this year.......I am thinking of what the judges will look for in the 12 B-boys and 12 B-girls. Thinking of the requirements since I have an interest in it and I know at least 50 percent of those moves....... Required breakdance elements - - Crazy Legs, Toprock , Any footstep moves, Sit Spin, Moonwalk, Arm Waves, Any Pop-and-Lock Element, Electric Boogaloo, Kidney Fall, Kidney Fall in Quarter or Half Split (Failure to put at least one of the moves in that routine results in loss of points.) Optional breakdance elements---- L-kick, airswipe, Jackhammer, Macaco to Dolphin, Regular Macaco, Macabo to Bridge, Moving Bridge, Macaco Kip-Up, Backflip (Mortal), 1999 (headspin), 2000 (handspin), bananeira (handstand), bananeira moving (handstand hop), Cartwheel without hands, Raiz, Butterfly, Helicoptero (or its variations), Dry Leaf Backflip, Spindle Flares, Drunken Swipe Loss of points if you dance out of the ring. Disqualification if you go out of the ring of dance and you hit a person or people by accident. Loss of points and/or disqualification if you dance past your required time. Bonus points for - - Any suicide moves (such as the suicide flip or suicide fall)----but any botched suicides will mean no bonus points or even loss of points. This is what I am thinking of regarding the mandates of Olympic breaking.

To me. One of the evolutions of break dancing is seeing the women do the acrobatic moves. Back in the day during the 80s. There were female dancers. But they weren't doing the acrobatic signature moves. And of course. To see artform blend both east and Westcoast pop locking with breakin that went nationwide before the internet and social media, that's now an Olympic sports. I witnessed it during the early 80s.

The term "Historically Black" lacks understanding and oversimplifies the narrative, often stemming from the misconception that Hip-Hop equates to Rap, which is not entirely accurate. Hip-Hop encompasses more than just Rap; it consists of various elements such as B-Boying, Emceeing, DJing, and Graffiti, which have always embraced multicultural participation. For instance, a glance at the ABC footage in this context reveals that Mr. Wave was the sole Black member among the NYC Breakers, while the rest were of Latino descent. In the realm of original Graffiti artists, figures like Seen, Lady Pink, Haze, Mare, and CAP, among others, are of diverse white and Latino backgrounds. Rap has indeed held a prominent position within Hip-Hop, but it's crucial to dispel the misconception that Hip-Hop is exclusively a Black phenomenon. Throughout history, multiple races have engaged in every facet of Hip-Hop. In the contemporary landscape, different races have taken the lead in various Hip-Hop elements: Breaking is represented by Asians and Whites, DJing by Asians, and Graffiti by Whites. While DJ Kool Herc, a Black individual, initiated the movement in the Bronx, it's vital to acknowledge that people of all races were present and active alongside him, as evidenced by documented sources like "Wild Style," "Style Wars," "Subway Art," "Spraycan Art," and others. Allow me to introduce myself: I am a 49-year-old original B-Boy and Graffiti artist hailing from Los Angeles, deeply ingrained in the culture since its arrival on the West Coast back in 1982 during my second-grade year. Peace!

Stop spreading false information. Every element of hip hop was created by black americans and is from black american culture. The first bboys/bgirls were black americans. The first djs in hip hop were black americans. The first emcee's were black americans. The first modern graffiti artist were black americans. Their names are cornbread and top cat. Kool herc didnt create hip hop thats a lie started by bambaataa in the 90s. Hip hop really started between 1969 and 1971. It was an underground movement until 1973/1974 being done at clubs and house parties. By the mid to late 1970s thats when latinos got involved. Black caribbeans like kool herc adopted and assimilated to black american culture. Hip hop is worldwide now but it started in the black american community in the bronx/new york city.
