I’ve followed Dave since I was a kid. He was my favorite comedian. He still is. I remember seeing Robin Hood men in tights in the drive in when I was a kid and saw him again in Blue streak and loved him ever since. When I was in high school he had his show and I was hooked. When he disappeared I was sad and didn’t follow any other comedian after his disappearance so of course when word came around that he would re appear and do a show in Austin Texas in 2013 I was ecstatic and excited af! But I immediately questioned in my head as I was watching him perform that that was not Dave..he was slow..talked slow..no life behind his eyes..not the same Dave I saw in his show and half baked and everything else he brought life too…the rest is history

You’re basing things off of his looks and the pitch of his voice as if he’s funny partially because he’s funny-looking and sounding. He’s just as funny now and better. He’s more refined and doesn’t need to rely on being high energy to get you to laugh. Most people regard Sticks and Stones as his best stand up yet, so I’m not so sure most would back you in saying he’s not as funny. Plus, how can you compare a stand up to a whole sketch comedy show? Two different things. Compare this stand up special to his other stand up specials from back then. I can’t compare even his old stand ups to the show. There are more writers involved in the show, with different characters/actors, and they redo scenes to get them perfect. There’s props, etc. That’s like comparing a sitcom to a movie to me. In terms of stand up, he is better now. I think Chappelle is the best alive right now at what he does. I’m not so sure he was back then (even though he was one of the best). Dave is just more relaxed now, but he makes up for it with better, more fleshed out and thought out jokes
