"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZbin. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZbin, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode. “That Raytheon decided they don’t hate gays or trans people - frankly, I don’t really give a shit what their take on that is..."

I think it’s important to remember that the name manic-depression was changed in the 80’s because of terrible stigma around the disease. The continued over-coverage of Kanye is doing the same to the name bipolar disorder. Similar to your point in the Dave Rubin video about assholes on the left and the right, there are plenty of normal people who have bipolar and you’d never know it. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar as a child and forced to take a ton of super heavy psychiatric meds until my parents found a reasonable psychiatrist to calm down all the fear created by the other doctors. Long story short, having these labels connected to scary people harms normal folks way more than Kanye.

Bipolarism sucks. Both parents have it. Step dad too. At the age I am now I take moments to reflect how these are humans that didn't decide to be this way. Yet society has a gauge to allow these people to maintain their inalienable personhood until they absolutely lose the rest of their marbles or hurt someone. It is fair to say that the situation in the Weimar Republic and the punishments levied against that country led to a desperation that made it possible for Hitler and the Nazis to take power. The country did stabilize economically, but it's important to remember it was pretty much all decimated once again by WWII but the allied powers handled the terms of the end of the war better (not perfectly, since Germany ended up divided) than after WWI. But yeah - it's a non negotiable that Hitler was an awful human being. He held one or two good views (animal rights/treatment comes to mind) but was just overall one of the most evil people to walk the earth. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pinochet (to a lesser capability) - all extremely horrific.

20:50 Nick Fuentez would not care about getting Kanye help, he's a white supermiscist so honestly he probably doesn't care if Kanye dies and he wouldn't want him out of the manic episode becuase while he's in it he's just helping Nick spread his ideology. Milo despite being a complete grifter probably was the most likely person to get Ye help because I think Milo at least has some moral core to feel sympathy when someone else is in trouble even if his next thought is "oh but if I help them just because they're in trouble there's nothing in it for me, so clearly I need to help them and then extort them with that leverage for all it's worth"

That's what drove him to become a Nazi?
@thebargainbin6020
@thebargainbin6020 Жыл бұрын
@@t221000 no not exactly. It is part of the reason he went from left to right though. His mom was a liberal professor. Very smart lady that Kanye adored. She pretty much raised him and instilled him with liberal values, on top of heavily nurturing and supporting his musical dreams and talent. When she died, her influence was lost and Kanye fell victim to the culture around him. Some right wing ideas got in there and he just eventually followed them all the way to their logical extreme which is Nazidom. Kanye is a very passionate, and frankly, brave person. He’s about equal parts brave and stupid and just happens to be a musical genius also. He will fight very adamantly for what he believes in. Unfortunately though, what he believes in now is Hitler and Theocracy. If his mother was alive now, I don’t think he could look her in the eyes and say the things he’s been saying. I think he would be too ashamed of himself. That obviously doesn’t excuse his Nazidom. I just doubt we’d be seeing this if she was still around. That’s just my personal opinion

@@jimbob3030 I would say it is like like watching the canary while the mine is already collapsing. The potential lack of oxygen in the future is not the only problem we need to concern ourselves with. For every problem we pay attention to there are 10 others we are ignoring. It is like Trump's tweets during the Trump administration, you can't spend all day every day on what some delusional narcissist is saying. That being said, I think you are right that it is spreading because I've noticed many people supporting Kanye on social media platforms.

Now this is just a guess, but I'm wondering if we've got Kanye wrong a bit. Listening to him this time, I feel like it isn't so much that he's saying that he loves Nazis specifically, but that he loves everyone, universally, regardless of what they do or believe. I think we as a society have decided that some beliefs make you exempt from that kind of appreciation, but I can see how Kayne might get to that place, especially in a manic episode. Now that doesn't exactly line up with the Jew-bashing but it's a theory.

The distinction isn't that Nazism isn't an ethnicity, because in some families it has been a dogma taught from childhood. The real distinction is that present day Jews aren't collectively preaching genocide or genocide apologetics from their ideology. They VERY WELL COULD because the Bible is demonstrably GENOCIDAL, but they don't focus on those points to bring themselves together or to speak towards their daily lives. There's just a minority in their orthodox and Israeli leadership who argue for genocide or make it happen without openly saying it. To be fair to Kanye in that manner, humans, despite their labels, are not all that different.

Nick Fuentes is *not* a good choice to help Kanye….. in my opinion, that’s arguably worse. I love ya, Kyle, but I humbly suggest that a person with Fuentes’ ideology is much more dangerous than a man who apparently wasn’t *always* deranged but is currently mentally unstable and saying “off the rails” shit. I’ve only seen a couple samples of his videos, but Nick Fuentes is a seriously scary dude. For the record, I have no opinion on Kanye West, the artist…I’m probably too old. 😉
