"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZbin. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZbin, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode. “That Raytheon decided they don’t hate gays or trans people - frankly, I don’t really give a shit what their take on that is..."

@Bisquick Жыл бұрын
@@kendallandrews8691 Exactly. Might be worth mentioning that the inverse of such an insane assertion is still alive and well and quite tangentially relevant, in terms of conflating any criticism of the political state of apartheid Israel with anti-Semitism. Just to point out the hopefully obvious rhetorical/cultural kaleidoscope that masks reality here: to blame individuals (like Tim suggests) or to blame some arbitrary group untethered to a material basis (like Kanye/those other dipshits presumably) is to conflate a normative understanding with a descriptive one and in so doing inevitably miss the forest for the "jewish" trees. Which is to say that the mode of production of *capitalism* is at the root here of course as it alone is what organizes material reality at its most foundational level in terms of ownership/control of property, out of which social relations (language, art, culture, law/government, etc.) emerges layered on top, shaping our entire ontology and thus directing the way we perceive both reality and each other. What a surprise that all of these specific (but arbitrary/subjective) cultural shibboleths are consistent only in their inconsistency, but entirely unified in an overlapping consensus that emphasizes above all else a totalizing acquiescence to the _actual_ root of _all_ of these social antagonisms which has uncoincidentally become a third-rail to even mention in any context other than utter reverence... Without an awareness of this class dynamic that generates and directs the tidal _material_ forces that shape our external reality and relations to one another, aka a _class_ consciousness, the trajectory of humanity, as everyone knows at some level regardless of their ability to articulate why, has its final destination firmly set toward civilizational collapse, a thanatos embrace toward the _"common ruin of the contending classes."_ But of course absurd amounts of money allows one to be entirely insulated from any direct material implications which could potentially ground one to a reality outside of themselves and unsurprisingly as a result allows one to map that universally felt hollowing out of humanity for profit much the same way someone like Henry Ford did, not at the system that is perceived as benefitting you (but only does so materially, all other relationships becoming purely transactional) but instead at "the jews" or whatever the fuck nebulous nonsense (generally, national/extractive/industrial capital usually perceiving the parasitic strip-mining of their fiefdoms for profit by international finance capital as "the jews" or more contemporarily/acceptably "globalists"; a systemic dynamic and cultural antagonism visible even from the onset of the US in the factional split between the Jeffersonian slave-owning land-holding "yeoman-farmer" anti-federalists v. Hamiltonian mercantilist eastern-banker federalists which basically forms a continuity of the only real difference of contemporary Dem/Rep interests in the US bourgeoisie, all at the zero-sum cost to the working class of course, clearly I digress lol). I mean we're basically gonna repeat the early 20th century in the stupidest way possible. So fucking dumb... _"Hegel remarks somewhere that all great world-historic facts and personages appear, so to speak, twice. He forgot to add: the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce."_ - some guy _"The slave revolt in morality begins when 'ressentiment' itself becomes creative and gives birth to values: the ressentiment of natures that are denied the true reaction, that of deeds, and compensate themselves with an imaginary revenge."_ - some other guy

I had a mental break after a series of consecutive soccer concussions about 13yrs ago. Was diagnosed bipolar, and treated with Lithium and a few other drugs. At its peak I was taking 900mg of lithium a day which sounds like a fuck-ton but it operates differently than other SSRI’s and needs to reach a certain percentage in your bloodstream to function correctly. So I could be on 900 lithium and 60 of Zoloft and that was a workable balance. It seems like Ye is just so distrusting/afraid of his own doctors that they aren’t even able to get this simple information through to him, and it’s really sad to see. The fact that he’s hung up on the amount of Lithium when it’s designed to be taken in a larger dosage is really telling. I think unfortunately the guy is at risk of hurting himself or others at this point.

He may very well have been mistreated by his psychiatrists. I don't know maybe he was over medicated and felt like hell and when he expressed his dissatisfaction with the way he felt they may have been dismissive or maybe he was put on medication that had really bad side effects and shouldn't have been on those medications and when he expressed those concerns the mental health professionals may have been dismissive. He may have been treated by some bad psychiatrists. I don't know and neither do you. Some psychiatrists are bad people. Some psychiatrists are bad psychiatrists. As a former mental health professional. I've seen countless people behaving in a similar way to Kanye when they're having a manic episode or a psychotic break. It's very sad sometimes, because these people can be both very convincing to their friends and family (particularly if these symptoms come out of the blue with no prior history of such behaviour, as in childhood) and utterly convinced of themselves. They usually believe that the people pushing back against them are either intellectually inferior or part of the conspiracy against them. I actually feel sorry for them, even if their views are abhorrent, because it must feel like a very lonely and isolated place. Probably less so with Kanye as he'll have people who have to agree with him if he's directly employing them. His mania is probably being reinforced by the sycophants that surround him. And it's positively evil that the likes of Fuentes and Milo are using him for their own nefarious political schemes.

Kanye’s little smirk and eye to the side - after he says - “they would have Michael Jackson’d me” - reminds me so much of Gary Vee. It’s the personality type that LOVES to be the center of attn and loves to say dramatic stuff - and then they smile and glance around like - did it get anyone? Did I hit anyones emotions? Gary Vee calls it being emotionally intelligent - but I think it’s people who persuade via pathos - as opposed to logos. Both Gary Vee and Kanye are essentially emotion-based marketers.

Britney's situation is insane. Ronan Farrow put it best: The conservatorship was instituted by Spears’s family-in part out of real concerns about her mental health, people close to the family said. But the family was divided by money and fame, and Spears, in an underregulated part of the legal system, was stripped of her rights. She has fought for years to get them back. Jacqueline Butcher, a former friend of the Spears family who was present in court for the conservatorship’s creation, said she regrets the testimony that she offered to help secure it. “At the time, I thought we were helping,” she said. “And I wasn’t, and I helped a corrupt family seize all this control.”

Yes, there’s often a connection between bipolar manic episodes, delusions of grandeur & religion. I have experienced it, personally. During some manic episodes I thought I was possessed by a demon & went to Catholic mass 3 times a day. I was speaking with other people with bipolar & one girl said, “I thought I WAS Jesus.” Bipolar + mania + thoughts of grandeur * religious extremism is very common. I’ve been on medication now for awhile & I’m doing very well, & I’m happily atheist, lol. But just wanted to say that, in my experience, which is considerable, there very much is a connection. To answer your question. It’s also very painful to watch Ye, who is so mentally ill, be trotting & trotted around, for different purposes, when he should be getting treatment. However, bipolar does not equal racist or xenophobic or antisemitic. Paranoid? Sure. But I’m not making any excuses for Ye. It’s just hard to watch anyone suffering from mental illness. I don't have schizophrenia, but when I did a lot of drugs I had beliefs just like those, and it was scary. Funny that for some people, drugs put them in those states, while others have to take drugs to escape those states.

It's straight up DARVO. Look it up. When criticized for victimizing someone, go on the attack about the way it was said. The VICTIM then defends as if they were the perpetrator. With all the focus now on the defending statements of the victim, the original grievance the victim brought up takes a back seat, no resolution is achieved & it's forgotten about. It ain't about the Jewish race, it's about the Jewish power & how it is weaponised to oppress, manipulate, control, enslave, steal & take advantage of other groups. He used the word Jewish as a DESCRIPTIVE word to describe the powerful alliances that carry this out. He did not use it as a racial slur, or as an attack on the whole Jewish race. Just to describe the corrupt power structures. To suggest otherwise is to deliberately misinterpret & misrepresent the truth to shut down & dismiss what is being said. But I didn't need to tell you that. Feel free to copy & paste my message elsewhere if you agree.

It don't matter if kanye is on his medication or not taking your medication don't just all of a sudden make you not have a problem with certain groups it just helps them hide it more.

Exactly! I found a KZbin recently - called something like - Hitler or Kanye. It was a stand up game - where they read random quotes - and the audience guessed - if it was Hitler or Kanye. This was back in like - 2013/2012. And the audience struggled to answer. Def think this thinking has some history w him

If we're talking about having an opinion then you're right. But this is not that. This is rampant paranoia and scapegoating brought on by mental illness. He may as well be blaming the Illuminati or claiming demonic possession.

4:00 I think one of the most telling signs of mental instability is perceiving someone trying to help you as someone trying to hurt you. It shows you how far gone they are.
