One thing about bipolar disorder is, as Stephen Fry revealed, many people who have it would rather have it than not solely because of the rush one gets during the manic episodes. I bet that makes it much harder to get help.

@CountScarlioni
@CountScarlioni Жыл бұрын
No, I fundamentally disagree with Stephen on that one. I'd really rather just not be bipolar. I spend my life habitually attempting to maintain an even keel in my mood state. Highs or lows come with bad consequences that I want to avoid. For me, receiving incredibly good news about something can be as destructive as receiving incredibly bad news. The depression I can deal with much of the time. I just renders me apathetic, withdrawn and inactive - spending weeks indoors eating badly, self-harming and playing Civ. Devastating on my waistline, but sooner or later it's a hole I crawl out of and rejoin humanity. Unfortunately my highs don't just come with elated moods (although they can be part of it), they also come with a juggernaut full of anxiety and paranoia. Life then feels like you have a fire lit under your feet all the time. Whenever I've lost friends due to my illness, it would happen due to my manic whirlwinds alienating everyone around me. Either I'd become convinced they were working against me and I'd become obsessional and antagonistic towards them. Or I'd just be saying really hurtful things to them, getting all heavy and emotional leaving them in tears, or overstepping personal boundaries too often. But my illness has never made me want to goose step, study the speeches of Joseph Goebells or ride around in a Jagdtiger. Those are symptoms that belong to the far worse condition known as _being a fukced up Nazi prick_ .

I would not be surprised in Ye is also doing other substances like cocaine or uppers to fuel and prolong his mania. Because the natural severe depressive episode is soon to follow and he has been elevated for months on end...that isn't naturally sustainable. Mania includes sleeplessness for days there is a natural crash. I think folks with bipolar don't want to be manic necessarily but prefer it to the devastating depressive episode. Anyone would.

How do we even know Kanye West has bipolar disorder, Because he says he does? Has he been diagnosed.? You're right, people are always willing to cut those they agree with more slack and give them the benefit of the doubt. kayne West isn't doing this because of any mental illness, he's a troll, it's theater. He's wearing a mask for god's sake, and people are still taking this whole thing seriously. I don't doubt he believes a lot of what he says, but real anti-Semites don't really talk like that, not in public anyway, they use dog whistles and code words, except for Louis Farrakhan, who once said "Hitler was a great man", but that's Farrakhan's bread and butter. The more people are outraged by this, and the more press it gets, the happier kayne is. The horrible thing of course is that Trump won't denounce him or Fuentes.

Hey man . I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder this year . During my severe manic episode , I destroyed all relationships with my close family/friends . I honestly feel like my internal “thoughts” were on BLAST . I specifically attacked my dad . Things will never be the same there . I was going through a manic episode for about 3 months and it got to the point where I thought I was a biblical character before I finally got to a hospital (stayed there for 2 months). I hate to see it but your internal thoughts are what get magnified and you have an unrealistic desire to blast them out to the public . How does anyone really know for sure that he has bipolar disorder? There is no independent verification of this. No medical records, no proof of a diagnosis or prescribed medication, In fact,a few years ago,he said that he had been MISDIAGNOSED with bipolar. He said some doctor hooked up electrodes to his head and told him that he did not have bipolar, it was just sleep deprivation. He is making a mockery of mental illness. I doubt very much that he has ever been diagnosed with bipolar.

I'm Bipolar and medicated successfully (no mood swings in 3 years. I'm not a zombie on drugs, and I'm highly functional with my natural emotional range intact). But it's a long struggle without people taking it seriously. It took me almost 25 years to get on meds in a combination that's been truly effective. It also took taking a Genesight genetic test to isolate which drugs would be safest and most effective before I was placed on the drugs I'm taking now. Meds do work. And with genetic testing we have a shortcut where people don't have to wait nearly all their lives to find something effective...but without them...that would explain a lot about how Kanye is behaving. However, the antisemitic Nazi rhetoric...that's not just crazy, but it's due to undue influence. Someone, or some combination of people have his ear and he's decided to believe a lot of falsehoods as his downward spiral has become completely unhinged. I fear for his life, and I'm afraid for his poor children. He should be forcibly committed and given a genetic test to find the drugs which will be most effective ASAP. Otherwise, he runs the risk of doctors just throwing drugs at him to see what sticks. Which could take months and cause different kinds of backlash and/or phsyical harm.

Again, spend a day with a real genius (in whatever field) and then reevaluate your perceptions. And perhaps raise your standards a bit. I’m a fan of hip hop but I’ve never heard anything special about Kanye’s music. He’s ALL bravado, no substance. His fashion sense is absolute garbage… like literally, his clothing designs look like clothing for homeless people who joined a cult. His whole career is like the emperors new clothes parable. It’s funny that Kanye is so obsessed with trump because from the very first time I heard about Kanye, from before he was famous when he had his mouth wired shut (the good old days, lol), I could tell that he was garbage, and when trump started running for President and self proclaiming his own “genius” at every chance he got, trump and trump’s popularity actually reminded me of Kanye’s career. Kanye is the Donald Trump of music, haha. Kanye is actually envious of trump because trump has his very own gigantic delusional cult. And THATS what Kanye wants. Kanye has devoted fans but he doesn’t have people who would treat him the way trump’s cult treats trump. Trump has millions of people who will believe, buy, and defend any and everything he does and says… just like when he calls himself a genius. Sound familiar? Lol, You have a nice day.

One thing I hate to hear is "no one in his corner is willing to step in and get him help". Anyone who has had a loved one go through mental health issue knows, it is damn near impossible to get them to take their meds, check into a facility, etc. They have to be an immediate danger to themselves or others before you can do anything legally. There only a few states that allow for involuntary holds triggered by red flags.

On the point about the antisemitism and bipolar being two separate facts: I have bipolar, and my issue with this is that it's only when a celebrity does something outlandish--whether it's interrupting Taylor Swift or praising Hitler--that bipolar is discussed with any depth or seriousness. I often find myself being the "expert" on the Kanye situation or asked what my thoughts are on Claire Danes' performance in Homeland but never about my own experience. I know from many conversations with people with bipolar as well as other disorders that I am not alone here. All these situations do for those with mental health issues is sensationalize our lives in such a way that we feel like clowns. It shouldn't take a media circus like this to engage in some type of meaningful discussion.

The only essential difference between a mental disorder and just "disruptive," "weird, ""difficult," or "evil" is, i.e., "the person must be distressed by the disorder or have trouble functioning in one or more major life areas because of the disorder." This assessment can be a really low bar and does not need to be a subjective determination of the person who is allegedly/potentially sufferings from a disorder. Even sociopaths psychopaths must pass this bar to be considered psychopaths. That is because these types of people are often really suffering from their disorder and hurting themselves indirectly, for example they are too impulsive to hold a job or they cannot have real close relationships, and their fundamental needs as a social animal do not go way just because you are a psychopath. Often they are described a living superficial or empty half lives or as half people. So "evil" vs. "mentally ill" is not a real mutually-exclusive distinction, but if you have a mental disorder, a lot of the time the "evil" will be mitigated if the underlying disorder / dysfunction / pathology can be mitigated. But you know if people who are just "evil" could learn grow or deal with what is fundamentally driving them in a more healthy or functional way, it seems to me that those people could become not evil" or at least not as "evil." Of course, we really don't know how to do this very well, especially if the person is not fully on board and committed to doing a lot of work on themselves to improve themselves as a person, which is almost always directly contradicted by the fact that the person is "just evil."

Even Whoopi Goldberg and Nick Cannon stopped and only said something off once and then Apologized, because they were probably taken out of context, Where Kanye just keeps repeating himself over and over again. It's like after I hear it 4 times or more I get exhausted. Yeah, I'm pro-free speech and he can say what he wants, but he never learns his lesson. I have Jewish Relatives and I want to know of this money and wealth I have? I'd love to be wealthy. 😆🤣🤣

If this is a manic episode that eventually ends, I don’t think it’s gonna change his *beliefs.* but he may look back on how openly he ran with them, beyond any other right-wing public figure, and seriously regret that he destroyed his career. Clearly he’s had these beliefs a long time, and was able to keep his career moving, so that’s what I think will do it. Not the beliefs themselves but how he went off with them

Without intervention and antipsychotics a manic episode will not stop. It will only increase and will only end when the afflicted person either dies from exhaustion or dies through reckless behaviour

Yup, the infection is already too deep. The insane part of his brain has dominated the sane part, so when sanity even somewhat returns, it will still be trudging through all that insanity first before he ever turns around into a generally reasonable person

The only issue I have with people discussing his disorder is framing it like he's some poor homeless guy talking to himself and swatting at things that aren't there while stumbling up and down the street. "Oh, I hope that guy gets help. How sad." Kanye is a rich celebrity choosing not to get help, so what does hoping he "gets" help even mean? There's nothing stopping him but him. That's the elephant in the room. The fact that for someone who doesn't want help, getting it anyway means being forced. Forced into treatment, forced to take meds, etc. Anyone acting so concerned about his behavior and the potential for him to take his life should realize they can't sound those alarms while also saying "but hey it's his choice to do nothing about it." Either this has gone too far or it hasn't. If people feel it has, then more of them need to vocalize that he should be committed whether he wants to be or not for his own good or something of the sort. There are more than enough people watching him dig the hole deeper while wishing on a star that he'll just wake up tomorrow and stop on his own so they can avoid being the bad guy who suggests that maybe the choice should no longer be his. They know it's the easy way out. Just keep saying he needs help because he's mentally ill so you sound compassionate, but never say anything about how, exactly, that help should be gotten when the dude rejects it.

Why are people praising Ben here? He's literally only doing this because it's HIS group being called out. If Kanye was being bigoted against literally any other group Ben would've been perfectly fine with it, and we've seen it with Ben saying similar things that Kanye did but with Palestinians instead. This isn't him being "right", this is him putting self-preservation over politics.

FYI: If you love someone, you’ll never try to force medication onto them. You can listen to them and try to fully emphasize with everything that’s happening with them. And you can share your beliefs that medication or therapy may help with this. But you should fully accept them if they choose to not use medication or therapy.

I think there are limits to that tho. If a person is hurting themselves or others they need treatment for their own good and the good of others. In Kanye's case he is harming his own brand and businesses. If he was someone I loved I would try like hell to get him into treatment ASAP.

Can all people in left-YT please start educating everyone about both the: (1) difference between right-authoritarian vs. right-libertarian; & (2) difference between left-authoritarian vs left-libertarian? It’s long overdue. People aren’t cattle or sheep: They will understand if we educate them. Though we need to educate (& learn) about all the nuance.

Are you okay in the brain? I've seen this comment for years now. The political compass is a meme, it isn't accurate. Right-wing politics are fundamentally more authoritarian no matter what, even if they don't realize it, ancaps are just fascists who don't get that money exists because states reinforce its value through violence, which also how you enforce property rights, contracts, and so on. Similarly, left stances are fundamentally less authoritarian, because they intrinsically involve democratization and abolition of hierarchical power structures.

I don't understand why this is even relevant..ok so a bipolar person is manic and possibly suicidal? There's millions in the same situation every single day. Kanye is least of all important. He has hundreds of people around him. If they can't be bothered to help him, the world won't mourn too much.
