Excellent overview of your evolution from 2013 to 2017 gear. A simple solution to combat the heat: wear an evaporative cooling vest over your base layer. Soak it, wring it, wear it and reuse it. Your core temp keeps stable longer. Also, for the really cold sections at elevation, would it make sense to add grip heaters to your rig? They add little weight. Cold hands are miserable and could be dangerous if you can't control your machine. Best of luck on Dakar 2018!

osimnod very true, many people soak the bottom layer and then but on a windproof top layer to stop the hot wind dehydrating you

Interesting information. When you wear the armor in an under suit do you have to wash it regularly? P.s, You don’t catch cold or pneumonia from being cold. They are viruses or bacteria.

For the begining , base layer , body armour , flece and mountain goretex jacket parka work well for me with zipps under arms . Now I got klm overland so sun will be tested....

HI Lyndon, I see you are now using the Klim Dakar jacket. For touring (I understand layering) which is your preferred jacket as I am in need of a new jacket for 2 -3 season use and am torn between the Mongolia or the Dakar? Loving R2P take care, Chris.

Spirit A pressure suit is a tightly fitted thin layer often made of mesh or soft base layer material with armour built into it worn very close to the skin. This is often used by racers and people riding harder off-road terrain as the tight fitting nature of this type of garment helps to provide better impact protection than the more traditional road riders system of adding armour to looser fitting textile jackets etc.

babur.karaoglu Lyndons original rally jacket was a full GoreTex shell. But, you are absolutely correct to say that his new AS shell is not. I think what Lyndon is trying to say is that the material of the AS waterproof shell is waterproof and breathable. Often people use the term 'GoreTex' to describe material that performs this way. In this case incorrectly, well spotted and thanks for pointing this out.

I believe he started R2P wearing a Klim latitude suit, but he seems to have switched to AS gear (assumedly since his gear got done).

Lyndon has used a few different sets of gear throughout R2P - he has been on he road for 3 years now! He started in Klim Overland suit. He has used different prototype incarnations of the ADVSPEC Atacama Jacket and Pants for all the races. After the Klim Overland he used K Fifty One jeans and an Induction jacket for a bit in Australia, or his ADVSPEC kit. Then a Klim Carlsbad suit in North America. After Dakar 17, R2P episodes that have not been seen yet, Lyndon continued on through South America in his ADVSPEC Atacama gear and will continue onwards in it.

Any motorcyclist really needs something that's waterproof when riding longer distances. Becoming wet will suck the heat out of your body like mad. Also, you can make or break the efficiency of your gear with your choice of base layer. Cotton next to the skin is basically never a good idea. Merino may well be the best for the average rider. Dakar...well, that's another issue altogether.

Jonathan Meehan I'm not really sure what to say to your comment. The title of the video suggests that the video will be about Lyndon talking about the evolution of his riding gear from 2013 Dakar to 2017 Dakar...I think the video does that. I have no idea what questions you are referring to or where exactly we should be pulling our fingers out of. If you can help us to better understand what questions you would like answering about our product we'll do our best to answer them.

osimnod not really important but he was talking about the jacket system and the waterproof outer shell but I don't see this outer shell when I look at the website, maybe it's another make or maybe I'm just wrong, I really like the look of the jacket but a bit pointless just buying half the system
