I see it as the things THAT changed were only his nose and chin- which he admitted to in his book and also in interviews that he had a chin dimple. If you look at his pictures prior to nose surgery, you can see that his facial features, such as his cheekbones and the v like shape that appears on his chin when he smiles was always like that. Not to mention his lips. It's just that he aged and lost a lot of weight nearing the end of his life that his cheekbones became more defined. Not to mention vitiligo and lupus gave the illusion that he changed drastically...

1979 was the year that Michael Jackson looked his best in my opinion. Just after he'd had his first nose surgery. By that point it was obvious that the Motown era was nothing but a memory. Though we hadn't quite gotten to the Thriller or Bad eras yet. It's a shame he didn't like the appearance of his nose after his first surgery. If he had, he probably wouldn't have gotten his second surgery, and all the other surgeries thereafter.
