So a little background on the Amen break, it is not an old James Brown break. It is actually from a song called Amen Brother by the Winstons, it was written in 1969. It has been used in so many different ways and on tons of songs in all genres, probably the most recognized 7 seconds in EDM and dance music history. The drummer responsible for that break died homeless and the Winstons never recieved a dime in royalties for the countless times it has been sampled.

I don't know if someone else commented, but if your searching The Amen Brother Breakbeat its by The Winstons NOT James Brown. The main Breakbeat sampled by James Brown (there are numerous ones) is The Funky Drummer featuring Clyde Stubblefield.

As a British music producer, Skrillex's latest stuff is not UK Bass - certainly Skrillex has taken influence as it seems he has spent a lot of time in the UK over the past couple years. Particularly telling is the use of rhythms found a lot in UK Drill. What I think is awesome is that his newest music can not be categorised as one genre. There's so much influence and so much culture packed into each song that Skrillex has kind of invented his own genre! What's poetic is that this reflects what happened with deadmau5 back in the day.

thank you for this. ive been waiting for somebody to talk about why Skillex is the goat. the drums are a good place to start. I still need a full analysis of why he's the godfather. one point is id make is that his dubstep is way beyond just sound design and heavy drops, he makes songs and is so musical. he's melodies are timeless and at his best he makes dubstep that is actually emotional. not just trying to have emotion like the cry bangers people make(laughable). I went to an Illenium show a few months back and just couldn't take the attempt at emotion but falling ridiculously short. this is why skilled transcends and why mainstream artists want to work with him. make real music folks, dont just hide behind sound design.
