@@carrollsanders9376 Well, humans use human pilots, and in the past several years we've gone directly to robot planes, without a silly step where we put humanoid robots into the cockpits of regular planes. The centurions, whether the original series version, or the Moore series, are some of the coolest looking sci-fi robots ever made. The original were more bulky and slow, but that was more of a limit on technology at the time. The updated versions were more sleek and bad ass in their capabilities, thanks to advances in computer technology.

Even as I preferred the newer BSG, the Original Cylons have a place in my heart. When one of the Cylons said in the original 'we were taking a vote when the planet came up and hit us' I saw there was some humanity inside the metal shell. In a later episode the cyclos mentioned their peers as bothers as I recall.

That is so awesome; ya I can see why those little lines would make such a big difference. I wish I could see the original for what it is... but being an 80s kid, although I loved old scifi like OG Startrek as a kid, I never saw 70s bsg back then, and now I just can't seem to embrace the 70s scifi, farthest I can go back is Startrek tng hahah but knowing all I do I appreciate the hell out of 70s BSG lore and universe. The '04 version is my obsession since the day it aired haha

I remember watching the original Battlestar Galactica when I was a kid in the 70's. And the Cylons always unnerved me. Whenever you heard that iconic sound (right up there with Darth Vader's breathing machine), you knew there was going to be trouble. The one episode I remembered most was Starbuck's Planet (I don't know the name of the title). Starbuck was shot down over a desert planet along with the cylon ship he was fighting. Starbuck survived, but with no way to get off planet. He soon started setting up a base camp and waited for rescue. Soon he came across the downed Cylon ship with three Cylons in it. I forget why he did it, but he reactivated one of the Cylons (possibly out of loneliness) and soon began a relationship similar to "Enemy Mine".

Watching this video gave me the idea that through the evolution of the cylons through different shows; given the focus on repetition and time all BSG shows have, you can actually relate all 3 shows together... (+Caprica) Creating a chronological order in which cylons were made, fought their reptilian masters, fought some existing humans and realized their form is ideal. They evolved into humans which eventually create more AI and so on and so forth... Well in a nutshell hehehe And given that by end of the remaining it's proven we are all partly Cylon it'll make for an interesting approach for future shows... ahem... 😄

You have to surmise that the imperial storm troopers of Star Wars were the inspiration of Larson's Cylons, but with a transition from human to robot to allow for all the carnage without blood for 70s & 80s television. Nevertheless, the detailed back story for the new Cylons makes them so much more than mere NPCs to be mowed down every episode. Excellent historical summary, thank you.

The centurion's voice in the original series was the coolest thing ever to this (then) 6 year old. Apart from that, the 2004 centurion was the coolest as it was legitimately terrifying to the humans fighting them. Not so much in the original series.

IIRC, weren't Larson's original Cylons actually *cyborgs* of the reptilian race, and were later retconned into robots later in the TV series to be more 'acceptable' to do things like mass killing of them and dismemberment? Also, trying...online avatars don't work that way...they're the physical image of someone, not their personality...

The new origin story, ignoring the weak Cylon name bit, is how it failed to grasp its Planet of the Apes source. In Caprica, we do not get ANY humanoid robots / androids of any kind. So how did they multiply quickly enough to have an uprising? The information about the chip in question for the AI to run on was a stolen tech, with forged information in the computers as to how it was built. Even if they did try to replicate, they would only succeed at creating chips that never worked. I think they will need to do more retcon if they revive the newer version of Cylon origins, as the religious angle is just a bit too heavy. Still, I think new or old, more Cylon lore would excite the imagination if done without such a dark and doomed outlook by ALL of the characters. The reimagined series was a lot of fun, but when Cylons are the only people who ever enjoy life...
