The atmospheric jump was such a goosebump inducing moment. It's definitely the most badass moment of the series.

The Adama manoeuvre was a brilliant scene. I wish I was a viper pilot in that battle! The build up, the wait as she's falling like a rock then,,, "jump" and the thunderous boom as she uses her FTLs in atmosphere,,, then the air support is there and it's like that moment in rogue one when the xwings show up and save them from the ATATs. Just awesome!

I agree. The Adama Maneuver was possibly the MOST dramatic and original military move I ever saw in a SciFi TV show or Movie. Nothing in Star Wars, Star Trek or any other show or movie ever compared with it. That said, while I was a fan of the original 1978-79 Galactica (at age 20) the Ronald Moore 'reimagined' series was a masterpiece. Taking the original concept, which was essentially a family oriented (and very fun) show and turning it into a very adult military/political science fiction drama, and then sprinkling it with a serious dose of religious speculation as well as a very plausible theorizing about the origins of humanity made the 21st Century Galactica one of the best television series ever. I am only even more grateful that Moore's Galactica coincided with my other all time favorite show, LOST, which, Like BSG, still holds a special place in my heart even now more than a decade after both series concluded...

During the episode 'Scar' there is a moment between Starbuck and Apollo where she says that they will never see the bright future they are fighting for. That one day they will make the wrong move in battle and that will be the end of them. I believe that she believed it when she said it and honestly was not really wrong. Once the civillians were safe and sound on new Earth, Starbuck and Galactica faded away to give humanity a chance to recover and grow into a new, peacefull future. Without the war machines from the past to remind them of what they went through to get to this point. Some of the warriors were around for that future and got to enjoy it, but the most scarred and battered warriors decided it was time to leave. Including Galactica. Its always going to be one of my favourite shows 💯

My only bone of contention was in the series finale, when the friendly Cylon Centurians were given possession of the Cylon Basestar, and they jumped away, apparently never to be seen again. I felt that this was an excellent opportunity to the shows writers and producers to say that the Cylons would evolve into humanoid bodies and would return periodically to help humankind on Earth, which was thought to be why we have encounters with aliens or support the "ancient alien" theory. It was a missed opportunity IMO. I would also like to have seen exactly what happened to the Cylons in the Twelve Colonies.

The Battle of Ragnar Anchorage early in the series-in which Galactica and its flak field and Vipers acted as a shield for the civilian Colonial vessels against several cylon baseships as they made their FTL jumps to escape--has to be one of my favourite of galactica’s several battles. Galactica’s possessing a point-defense-network of gun batteries in addition to the ability to launch ballistic missiles gave it a distinct tactical advantage over the Cylon baseships (which were for the most part missile-and-raider-launching platforms, incapable of close quarters battle) even in encounters (such as the battle of the Ionian nebula) when Galactica was seriously outnumbered.

I prefer to believe that the 'reimagined' series and original series do not contradict each other. I believe the 'original' series is actually a sequel series. Those Colonials were the survivors left behind during the 'reimaged' series and rebuilt. Factor in different propulsion technologies, the time of events could have been condensed. The Alien species referred to be the creators of the Cylons could easily have been a cover story. Remember "All of this has happened before and will happen again... And again." Also, it's fun to speculate if the Galactica really went into the Sun. At the last moment it could have veered off course by Sam Ander's death or purposely. Over thousands of years it could accumulate ice and material and continue to orbit our solar system mistaken as a comet. ;)

Galactica was the equivalent to the USS Texas. Built in 1912, it guns were made to fire from spotters on a mast, its AA was a couple guns on the top of its cranes. It was noted for launching a plane off a turret. It was immune to all and was the most advanced ship of its time. Then times changed. Texas got AA that was staggering. Off Gold beach, it flooded tankage to gain a couple degrees of elevation to help forward ground force invasion. Imagine being the recipient of a shell the weight of a a small building. It was just a few seconds of screen time, but damn. (It's a shame they focussed the whole episode on Lee Adama who was drifting in space with the BATTLE TAKING PLACE BEHIND THE CAMERA (why flipping the finger at the fans and not showing a proper space battle?!?)) 3rd was the liberation of New Caprica. The battle itself was a bit on the short end, but the free fall was amazing! PS: It's funny in a way, that the 1701 and Adamas Galactica got a proper send-off, but no one on screen seemed to care about the Enterprise -D. Not even Picard seemed to give a shit. I thought because of that line it could tie in with the Terminator franchise. I recall someone mentioning that the actor who played Adama was asked what it might tie into. His reported response was Blade Runner.

Watching the galatica jumping into the upper atmosphere of new caprica and start falling like a rock, launching vipers through the flaming atmosphere surrounding its hull then jumping back into orbit when they were only about a 1000 ft from hitting the ground followed by the boom from the air filling the void it left. I rarely get emotional while watching tv or movies to where I cheer while watching but that had me jumping out my seat and was probably the coolest thing I've ever seen on tv or movies until maybe captain America picked up thor's hammer

It seems that before that last battle there was a battle that same week Galactica lost 2 thousand personal and its fleet of escorts. That fleet had around 40 ships four of them Battlestars . But on that last day its 3 .

One of the main reasons I despise the woke, is they look straight past amazing shows like this one. Like the original, both shows are about a glorious warrior woman, shepherding the last desperate remains of humanity to a safe home. Galactica is easily my fave female lead! Sci-fi action shows. If you don't count the ship, the show is named after as a character, you just aren't a fan in my book. Which is why I love the Ronald Moore show more than the original, Moores Galactica had personality, she couldn't do everything, she suffered through every battle, wire the scars&eventually sacrificed her life to keep her precious cargo intact. That! Is an inspiring character arc! And that's just barely touching her lovingly expanded war career! I truly love Battlestar Galactica.

I watched both versions of the show. And to be honest I prefer the original Battlestar Galactica. And the original Colonial Viper Mk.I. But I love the remake of the Galactica and the Viper Mk.II. Interesting that they went from mechanical Cylon robots to human looking androids that have many copies of the same model. Boomer, and 6 to name a couple. I did love how they introduced the Cylons in the opening of the new Battlestar Galactica. I do like how they gave everyone names like Lee Adama, and not just Apollo. That being his call sign in the new Galactica series. And how they use time spans people would be familiar with. Like minutes and not centons and years and not yarns like in the original Galactica. Even tho there was a single episode near the end of the pre Galactica 1980 where they do use minutes when Starbuck and Apollo I think it was, meet the Eastern Alliance, I think they were called. And they are given a map to Earth.

I loved this show and still do, however two glaring problems are: Why did they sacrifice the Pegasus instead of the aging, broken-down Galactica? The Pegasus was a far, far superior ship and Galactica was already a total POS when the series began much less where it ended up. Second, why would they throw away all their tech when the rogue Cylons still had the tech and could just come back and kill everyone should they change their minds.

Watch a video by a channel called 'Spacedock'. Video title 'Ways to save the Pegasus'. And he explains his own ways he would save Pegasus. Lee Adama was so fucking stupid.

Nah, the CENTURIONS that left were sick and tired of this human shit and fucked off as far away from this cancerous species as possible. Also, tbe madness and wtf actions of the human cylon models taught the centurions to never touch that shit again, ever.

Because the show wasn't called Battlestar Pegasus. But yep would have made more sense to sacrifice Galactica.

I prefer the look of the original Galactica. Yes i'm that old since I watched as a kid. then again before the Galactica, Enterprise or even a certain modified YT-1300 freighter. I watched a show featuring a WW 2 getting one heck of a refit.

The cylons were a reptile race that built machines to make their life easier but died out 100s of yrs ago(Killed by their machines). But their machines still exist and are still called cylons. the original Galactica and the other Battlestars were 6 miles long and took 500 yrs to build and were never completely finished because they were constantly upgrading them. All their tech would explode and totally leave nothing left if they lost the battle. so no one could get their technology. Cylons had the same. i like the old orig pilot. i love the new remake, not new anymore. Glenn had an idea but he made alot of shows.
