1) Missed opportunity by not collectively calling any group of superpowered folks “The Cortixifam” 2) I truly loved this series watching its original airing, so I LOVE this format of not only critically analyzing it but also going over enough of the plot and character beats that I keep getting to say “oh yeaaaaah that did happen”. It’s basically a very efficient way to re-experience the show from a different viewpoint

This might be mentioned later as I'm at the start of the video but one of my favourite little character details in all of media is when a scientist suggests to Walternate that they test their compounds on kids and he flat out refuses to go that far, even though it might help him save his world. Really drives home that the other universe is just as human as ours.

The pre-dino people are Ella, Astrid, Walter, and a few others. This makes the fact that Astrid cracked the code more interesting since she is the one who created the code to crack. She basically writes the code for herself. I actually like the bootstrap of the machine. It makes the timelines like a closed loop/Mobius timeline with branches. I LOVE Time travel stories where effect proceeds a cause.

Daniel, as a person who experienced extreme trauma during my childhood, I can confirm that there are HUGE holes in my memory. Just blank spaces where people I met and experiences I had are just gone. I even sat beside someone in high school, in a different country, years after being on a track team with her during my younger years in Jamaica, and it took me years, afterwards, to remember where I knew her from. I'd spent years of my childhood in her company, yet, somehow,, my brain had locked those memories away, along with a lot of pain. It's a weird feeling to know that there are parts of my life that are just lost to me. So, Peter and Olivia having their childhood memories of of other not being fully accessible to them is strange, but it's not at all unbelievable to me, even with Olivia's impeccable memory.

I started watching Fringe after 34 minutes of the previous video and now I've just started season 4 so caught up with that video and this one. I'm loving the show so far, but I do agree with a lot of your criticism. One thing though, the "ancient humans". I understood that whole thing to just be fake and a weird way to explain that Walter in fact invented the machine and sent it back in time? Possibly the writers changed their mind and it's a retcon. Or maybe the it comes back again in later seasons.

I don't agree with every point, but you make some very thought-proviking comments and it's all super entertaining to watch! I look forward to the next one. I do agree that the end of season 3 was not as strong as other seasons. I was also not a fan of the "chosen one" and "prophecy" direction they were taking this in (didn't like it in Alias either, and that's another JJ show I love too) and had the same "wtf?" reaction to Walter's explanation about Peter going back to make a different choice. Josh Jackson's comic "Peter and the Machine" made some strides in trying to explain this, and while I liked it, it was really hard to wrap my mind around it. But I love the characters and the actors do such a great job with them, that I just decide to go with it and suspend disbelief massively. What makes Fringe amazing is ultimately the character development and relationships. The sci-fi elements are fun, but to me, they are simply an interesting backdrop. As for the seasons, season 4 started weak, IMO, and got better as it progressed. Season 5, btw, is one of my favorite seasons, probably right after season 2. I'm with you, I like it better than season 3, but the first half of season 3 is fantastic.

I think that Olivia called her niece the first time she came over from the other side because she needed to check that what Peter (her subconscious) had told her was true. Yet another brilliant video, thanks for taking the time to make them. All the best from a fellow Fringe fan!

Thank you for covering this in such depth! This was one of the biggest catalysts for getting me interested in sci-fi, and reexperiencing it through your series is bringing back so much. Even more than before, I can't believe that this was a FOX primetime TV show during that time because it's so complex (for better or worse). I remember watching it as it aired with my parents, neither of whom read or are interested in sci-fi/fantasy, and they didn't get much farther than S3 because it was too complicated. Meanwhile, I was having an entire awakening to the darker possibilities of Sci-fi. And Astrid. Even on rewatch, she's incredible. All the kudos to Jasika Nicole for sharing most scenes with John Noble (arguably at his best) and still stealing the show most of the time. Their dynamic added so much depth to their characters and the heart of the show as a whole, and that couldn't have happened with Walter and any other character.

Fringe had been sitting in a little corner of the back of my brain for the past 15 years or so as a show I would like to get around to watching at some point. Seeing that you made these deep dive videos made me finally decide to watch it and it has been great! Although I agree with your criticisms on an objective level, at the same time I can easily say that I have loved watching every episode of this show! Looking forward to your analysis of seasons 4 & 5!

Thank you for this video! I love Fringe and the hype around part 1 inspired me to do my own rewatch. Thanks for all you do here.

Fringe is one of the few shows where I can say "I love that season even though I don't jam with the big myth arc of the season", meaning the vacuum in this case.

Fringe is also my favourite show of all time. Alongside Lost Girl, which while a bit cheezy, is so different from other fantasy. I highly recommend if you havent seen it.

Yay! Gonna cast this on my TV while I do my puzzle. Despite never watching Fringe (although I had friends who LOVED it), I found the first video super engaging.
