Compelling, but impossible. Execution by electric chair NEVER relies on a shared power source. The chair is powered by an independent generator to prevent just what this movie depicts. The old Hollywood gimmick of the prison lights dimming when the switch is thrown, is just that--a gimmick.

There have been "botched" executions with the use of the Electric Chair. However I'm not sure if the subject was alive for to much longer after said execution. @statinskill5 жыл бұрын
No Name -- Technically he could get a stay on the grounds of the 8th amendment and then later be found competent to be executed at a later date - or not in case that one jolt was enough to render him mentally incompetent. OR - they can continue with the execution. The execution warrant is in effect all day. They can try and let him sit on the chair, while they check out the malfunction and while his attorneys try for a stay, whichever side gets there first. Our story here however ends on a sadistic note. The guy sits there for 50 minutes sobbing and weeping and begging for help. That's right, after minute 26 he is recovered enough to cry and beg. He is informed that the execution is still in progress and that it won't be long now. The mandatory state witnesses are brought back in and seated. These are usually prosecutors, clerks, etc. Without another word the warden nods and again the switch is thrown. Immediately we hear a long agonizing scream that ends like the kind of gurgle when you're out drowning kittens and puppies at the pond. The chair is still not drawing enough power but slowly the job is getting done. After 30 seconds the juice is shut off and for ten seconds just sits there. Then there is another bang and the juice is back, slowly burning the corpse to charred perfection with an open flame shooting through the skull cap near the electrode because the sponge has dried out. The condemned suffered untold agony and felt the threshold of Hell never closer as in the sense of complete abandonment that befell him when the present doctor refused him pain medication on orders of the warden. They could not risk him becoming intoxicated, so the warden, or the execution could be jeopardized.

1. The straps wouldn't need to be checked; they would have been checked already by the tie down team. 2. The generator would NOT fail. In the event of a botched execution (See Francis, Willie) the power would be disconnected and the condemned removed immediately. 4.
