An account as to why the genteel ladies present were shocked - after their gaze wandered to the corpse's nether regions.
For all those morbid romantics out there, this one will definitely be right up your catacomb!
We start off with an abbreviated history of Lord Byron followed by a detailed account of the exhumation of his crypt in the 1930s.
We shall reveal why the delicate females gasped in awe and fell into a delirious swoon as the great poet’s coffin shroud was removed.
Plus an exclusive - you will get to view my very own mausoleum!
Oddie Beau's ODDNESS Urban exploration & famous historical features! vintage crime cases & eccentric people from the past! ...and other weird stuff :) ....a dusty store window, filled with ancient alluring oddities. Once you've entered, you'll never want to leave. Quality over quantity.

“Always laugh when you can, it is cheap medicine.” ― Lord Byron (subtitles in all major languages!! - If you'd like me to add one, just ask me) This video was uploaded to Patreon 2 years ago - all my new content gets posted there first, so I don't have to bow to the YT censors. My patrons support my work so I can continue. But the older videos like this one, eventually come here.

Great video oddie, I grew up in the town of hucknall and you can visit and marry at his home in new stead abbey. My brother married and had his children christened there. Lord Byron’s tomb was closed up completely due to vandalism. Remember my parents telling me he was good friends with the shellies xxx

It is interesting that Sir Richard Francis Burton , made a few brief but written remarks about Byron. An excellent documentary, would be about Sir Richard Burton and his tomb at Mortlake cemetery.in London. There is an engraved silver disc placed in the ground behind Burtons tomb. I placed it there in 2012.

Loved it so much!! I've always wondered about Lord Byron. The description "he had an enormous shlong" had me in tears and snickering like Beavis and Butthead. I had to replay so i could hear what was said after that. Also the colorful nicknames of his ancestors. Makes you wonder what they did in life that caused those monichers to be memorialized.

I had a high school field trip to the local mortuary (the biggest business in that tiny little town). The mortician was very passionate about his work and we enjoyed it, surprisingly. He showed us photos where a flood had unearthed a cemetery and sent caskets floating downriver where some had broken open. I believe it was the 1930s. He was quite proud to show how the bodies looked freshly preserved but many had been buried for decades. After we got past the omg-that's-a-dead-body shock, we could appreciate that he was absolutely right. One kinda half sat up. One had one eye open. But otherwise they looked incredibly preserved. A really bizarre practice if you think about it, though.

What can I say Dear Oddie? This was a delightful tale, and perfectly suited to its subject, the bad boy himself. Women swooned when he read his poetry it was said. I can only think he would have laughed his butt off at the doings described in this adventure. Had he been alive, he would have been a more active participant. Your tomb sounds like the perfect resting place for the bones of Oddie Beau. Surrounded by the things you took such pleasure in whilst living your well loved life. The doors might want to creak and groan as they open inwards, and your mellifluous voice bids your visitors welcome. Candles spring to life on either side in unison as music begins to play. How could that be any more perfect for Oddie’s resting place? Though modest in size from the outside…once entered in, a person might lose their way in twisting halls that wend their way into eternity. The heady fragrance of incense wafting upwards from four deep bowls spaced about the 4 corners of the raised dais where rests your cast off shell, with still a gleam in the eye. I would like to be composted, which is now being done in four of the States of America, and soon, I hope, in Canada. Fold me in a winding sheet of finest linen, a wreath of flowers on my brow. Let me lay upon a bier sweet incense to fill the air. Scatter wood shavings over me, each alive with Nature’s little helpers. Let me spend two months within a little chamber, of transformation, like a caterpillar in a chrysalis, from which I shall emerge as rich dark earth, ready for the planting. Let a weeping willow and a little garden grow within my fertile soil, and set a bench where guests may sit, and look upon the metamorphosis of my body, while my spirit seeks a new home. Thank you Oddie, Spring has finally arrived here, and flowers are emerging from their Winter rest. Sending love and light in abundance to you and Odette.💖✨🖤🇨🇦

You will most definitely be my events organiser and architect for the design 😄 your creative description is magnificent! Now, why did I forget to include the creaky hinge sound effect?? With land prices being as they are, I highly doubt that my vision will come to fruition - more than likely ashes scattered to the wind. I do like your burial plan, very in tune with nature. I’m so happy to hear that spring has finally reached you guys, here, we’ve had some changeable weather, yesterday, magnificent, sunshine, and warm, and today, raining, cold and blustery - but I hold out, hope that spring has attached itself firmly! Hope you had a lovely weekend, and sending love and light as always ☀️⭐️❤️

@@ObsoleteOddity I always enjoy your offerings Oddie, you quite lift my spirits when I’m having a rough patch. I’m sure we could devise a working model of your magnificent mausoleum, and tuck a spoonful of ashes in the little coffin…call it a workaround. I must admit I was a little surprised when the doors didn’t creak 😂 I have always wanted to be composted, and an amazing lady has worked out the details to perfection. Two months in the chamber, and nothing remains except replacement parts in metal. All toxins and disease are gone. Everything has been transformed into very rich and fertile soil. Friends can take some to grow a plant in, you can be dug into your favourite garden, or…in Oregon, you can donate the soil to a program that is restoring the riverbank ecosystem that has been eroded over time. You can become a part of the forest. Some time back Caitlin from the KZbin channel “Ask A Mortician” did an episode on it…and I was delighted. At that time it was legal in Oregon, Washington, and Colorado, with talks happening in California and New York. It is a perfect system for big cities, where there is no more land for cemeteries. Richard went back in hospital on Friday early afternoon, but it looks like I might get him back tomorrow. I spent the time visiting him, and checking the yard to see who is poking their heads above the ground. Most of my Spring bulbs are getting ready to flower, and my first early ones are already blooming. I must apologise my friend, with all the time Richard has been in hospital the past two and a half months, the banking didn’t get seen to, and my credit card is defunct…which means my Patreon dues did not go through for April. It may take a bit of time to get things back and up running, our taxes are due now, and haven’t been started yet, and our regular bills have likewise been ignored. Richard made a start on them, opened and sorted them into neat orderly stacks, ready to be dealt with online…then he knocked them all off the table to the floor. I picked them up, but the resorting will be more difficult than the initial sorting was. Wishing you both much love and light, and a fun Spring getaway to somewhere we would wish to join you.☀️🌙✨🖤🇨🇦

Sorry for the late reply, Tamarra, your comment ended up in the held for review folder, who knows why the AI detects certain comments? I think the pinch of soil in the coffin would be a good compromise, unless I was to have my body mummified so that a holographic projection can be activated once the sensor pads have been stepped on 😄 Oh, I do hope Richard returns tomorrow, which I’m guessing will be today by the time you get my message. Absolutely, do not worry about the Patreon payment, that is the least of your worries. I totally understand that you are behind with everything at the moment as would be expected with the situation you’re both dealing with. That’s very kind of you to let me know. Odette is searching for a new job at the moment, which is proving a bit more difficult because of her age - but she has completed a computer course, and has a new diploma to hang on the wall! Our Swiss friends have just bought a property in France, we can’t wait to see it - they have a lot of land and they said the house has lots of winding passage ways. We will be looking for a place eventually in the same area. I’m just about to have a chilled beer as it’s the end of the working day, and I raise my glass to you both dear friends!

@@ObsoleteOddity Oh…thank you Oddie. Hmmm I do have all the steps and ingredients used in Egyptian embalming, not sure the powers that be would be thrilled by the concept of me setting up business embalming folks though lol. Richard is home with me now, for which I am very grateful. He is becoming less mobile with every passing week, and I really feel bad for him, but there isn’t much practical I can do to improve the situation. One of the tumours in his liver has reached out and engulfed one of his adrenal glands, so his strength and stamina is severely compromised. I know finding a job as an older woman is really difficult everywhere these days, and I hope Odette can buck the system and find one she enjoys. It will be great when you can find the right abandoned chateau in France, or an old farmhouse that you can fix up to your hearts content. I know it is a long held desire, and lots of people are doing it these days. I watch a channel called “The Pethericks” who are renovating a chateau and a convent. One friend of theirs is doing an old stone farmhouse, and another is gutting and redoing a 17th century townhouse. A couple with a channel called “The Moons” have a farm property where they rescue elite horses when they are no longer able to compete with the younger horses. They are all fairly close to each other, and it is fascinating to watch these places take on new life. I have to get Richard focused on resorting the banking papers so we can get things sorted out. We have the money in other accounts, but need to shift a bunch into the credit card accounts, and get the bills paid. Fortunately, the house is mortgage free, and aside for the general bills, we don’t owe anybody anything…so it’s just a matter of sorting the bills and shifting money into the account we use to pay bills and taxes. I don’t get out and about much these days, because I can’t leave Richard home alone in case he has a fall, but I am starting to feel like setting up my studio at the house and getting creative again. Soon I will be able to muck about in the garden, and that will help too. If we can get a chair lift for the stairs, Richard will be able to come out and heckle me about where to plant what. It is a lot to adjust to over a pretty short timeframe, but we are good at that. Wishing you both much light, love, and happiness as the world puts on Her most beautiful clothes again.🌎💖🖤🇨🇦

@@tamarrajames3590 I can imagine it being a niche, but successful market in Egyptian embalming - complete with gilded wooden coffin. I’m sure many people would like to be interred that way. I’m so sorry to hear that Richard’s condition has advanced to the stage. It must be very difficult for you both. I can’t even imagine how you both feel, our thoughts are with you as always. Well Odette went for an interview yesterday, and she liked the energy, let’s hope that they feel the same - fingers crossed! I don’t think we would be up for a French château, neither with energy or funds - I think one would have to make a business out of a building, so large. We will be content with a nice little farmhouse or cottage, as long as there is enough land around it to breathe. It’s lovely, at least that your house is paid off and you don’t have any debts - that is at least one less worry. We don’t have any debts either, and we don’t want a mortgage. But the real estate prices are getting increasingly crazy. It would be lovely if Richard could be out in the garden with you once the spring sunshine takes hold. We wish you both the best of times and send much love ❤️⭐️☀️

Thank you Oddie, for this telling of Lord Byron. No mention of his bisexuality or court case brought by the father of Lord Byron's "partner." Such an interesting man. Not sure how he would fare in today's society, though generally most people don't care about your moral behavior. Oddie, you're the best, looking forward to your next. Stay safe friend.

The only thing I would see missing from the experience would be ghosts and creepy noises like Disney’s haunted mansion!! What fun that would be! For myself I want to be cremated and my ashes sprinkled in a forest under a tree, I am a naturalist at heart. With songs like Spirit in the Sky, the song by Annie Lennox from Lord of the rings, Layla by Derick and the Dominoes(my fav) and lastly Dont Bogart that Joint my Friends in remberance of my fun times! Great job Oddie, see you on the next one. Much love

Now's the 200th anniversary of Lord Byron's death. There should be a video on him next. A very controversial, perplex and messed up life. Oddie, do you believe the rumours about him, and Augusta's relationship were true and the one about Augusta's daughter Elizabeth Medora Leigh being the product of that relationship?

Highly entertaining! Love the video, Oddie! Taking out the internal organs would lend itself to preserving the body. Egyptians did the same, because it removed a source of moisture. In Lord Byron's case it also allowed the alcohol to be introduced to the inside of the body. The "state" (ahem!) in which he was found is common for dead bodies, although not the unusual size... I recommend the book "From Death to Dust" by Kenneth V. Iserson M.D., if you have a morbid interest in burial traditions from prehistory to present day, and the manner in which we return to the earth.

That was well told, Oddie. I love hearing your stories. We had a similar uproar here in the 1930s with the killing of John Dillinger, at the Biograph theater.. His personal attributes caused a great excitement then, aside from removing a dangerous gangster from the public. I find Lord Byron more interesting The Byrons must have been a colorful family, judging by those nicknames. Thank you again!

@@ObsoleteOddity That's very kind of you to say, after I compared Lord Byron to an American gangster! 😬 Not an apt comparison at all, except possibly for the crowds of onlookers. I read Lord Byron's works (love Tennyson, and other British poets as well), still. I have never sat and steeped my mind in the works of Dillinger! The mortuary theme is great. How cool of Britain to honor their writers and poets. Thanks again!
