I have always vacillated between thinking you’re English or Aussie. I had almost decided you must be English by birth but, perhaps living in Australia for your adult life and come to find out you live in Switzerland lol - I would have kept wondering - I am glad other people aren’t as shy about asking such questions. Regardless, you’ve a lovely accent and all the better to listen to you!

Well you were very much on track my friend, - born in England but as a small baby we emigrated to Australia, went back to England when I was 10, then I went back to Australia when I was 18 - much later I met a lovely Swiss lady and have been living in Switzerland for a few decades now 🙂 Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, my friend, so glad you’re enjoying my content!

Hello Oddie, I had read about this infamous incident previously, and agree that poor Roscoe was wrongly accused. On another topic I’d like to ask if anyone has ever mentioned experiencing something “unexplainable” that happened to them after watching/listening to a great number of your fascinating videos! I had a strange experience that I will share sometime. Unfortunately, YT is the only way I can communicate since I don’t have any social media presence. It would take too long to add in this comment. Cheers!
@ObsoleteOddity21 сағат бұрын
Yes, it is sad that nobody was prepared to stand up for him, but it’s often the case that people are frightened of their own careers being ruined, even if they know that it’s the right thing to do. The good thing is that I see more and more people are becoming sick of this cancel culture cancer, all it is is a Internet witchhunt - and often the chosen target is innocent. I would definitely like to know of your unexplainable experience while listening to my videos!
@Lake192017 сағат бұрын
I’m so glad you mentioned the cancel culture problem because I included basically all that you said, but deleted it and reposted my earlier comment. You never know who will be offended these days, unfortunately. On to my experience…One day last week I was away for most of the day and when I returned home I couldn’t find my eyeglasses. I looked in the eyeglass case and through my entire bag more than once. I looked at every surface of each room in my apartment. I called the person I had visited to see if I left the glasses there. No, they were not there. I was disappointed because I need them for reading, close up work, and using my phone. I resorted to using a large magnifying glass until I could get an additional pair of glasses. After hours of doing this I decided to take a nap due to fatigue. At some point I got up to turn on the television which is on a nearby table. When I was ready to get back into bed I saw the glasses, neatly folded a few inches from my pillow! They hadn’t been there earlier! I would have seen them when I removed the three decor pillows that are in front of my bed pillows. Also, I would have felt them pressing against my back when I was lying down! Plus, I NEVER put my glasses on my bed! This is truly an “odd” and unexplained event! The first thing I thought of was the number of Obsolete Oddity videos I had been watching prior to this! I didn’t feel frightened or “creepy” at all. I just made that correlation immediately. What do you think? 🤔
@ObsoleteOddity10 сағат бұрын
@Lake1920 well actually I was trying to respond to the comment that you deleted, because it was still on my notifications list at that time - never be worried about who’s going to be offended, because these are the type of people who will be offended anyway, and they deserve to be offended. Regarding the mysterious spectacles thief, sounds like you have a mischievous spirit, or perhaps a passed loved one is trying to get your attention - they do these sort of things so that you will start to concentrate on them. Do you know who it might be?
@Lake192017 минут бұрын

I think the tunnel was to get direct access to the beach. Long Beach has a pretty high slope down to the beach from that location. The booze was likely moved from the beach through the tunnel so they didn’t have to scale that slope up and down. When I was little, the tunnel was open and used to go to the beach from the Ocean Blvd. bus stop 😂. All very normal. 😁. The tunnel has since been. Gated at each end and locked up because of drug deals. It is made of concrete sides.

I just found this channel today and I wonder why I had never known about it before. Oddie you did an amazing job telling the story behind the painting as well as about Lizzie and Gabriel, it is truly tragic and worth knowing about. I would love to listen to you narrating audio books, especially those in historical settings. 👍👍👍👍 Edit: I appreciate the silence in the background and the longer pauses, it lets the serious and sad nature of every event sink in. I do wish that Lizzie could have lived a better quality of life.

One. Cora crippen was a rare form of hermaphrodite that in all repects passes as a woman until about puberty when the testicles which are internal begin pumping out testosterone and wreking havoc. I believe this is why cora needed her ovaries removed. Her balls had about killed them by the time she thought to get looked at. It also explains her aggressive temper and masculine demeanor. It explains why the flesh was male. Two. Ethel killed Cora in a rage when cora was laughing at her, making it clear she would never release Dr. Crippen by divorce. Crippen then had to get rid of the body, which had been almost successfully accomplished, but some flesh remained undisolved for whatever reason. I think it all was disolved in quicklime except this bit due to some unforseen event. Maybe if the basement hadn't been opened till a week later, it would have all been gone. Nothing in crippens character shows he would have the guts to murder his wife or even the temper to do it in a flash of anger. He loved ethel to death, though and would not stop saying that he would take the blame and nothing would come back on her. Most assume this is because she knew of the murder. I suspect it's because she is the murderer and his only goal was to save her, which by doing nothing to defend himself he accomplished. Its speculation. But i can think of nothing else which makes it all come together. All the many odd twists and seemingly illogical choices.

Another classic story of the what system (Justice System) giving a celebrity preferential treatment from prison time. It's a shame we have such systems which have preferential treatments of you but nay me because you have status and lots of money behind you. The best thing to come out of this was old Fatty ended up penniless and got taught a cruel lesson about how Hollywood will wipe its hands of you if they think you're going to talk about what REALLY GOES ON when the camera is turned off.
@nibs88375 күн бұрын
A truly sad case. I've always been bothered by the fact that Virginia Rappe's female organs were removed and sent to be incinerated. What possible reason would there be to remove organs that weren't connected to any injuries? So much went on that the public wasn't aware of, drug use and alcohol were rife in Hollywood, blackmail was common, and studio's weren't above paying off different officials to make sure their "properties" remained unsullied. Studio executives made a complete fiasco of the crime scene in the William Desmond Taylor murder case, attempting to keep Mary Miles Minter's love affair with the slain director from becoming public knowledge.

Tearing of the clothing, while in great pain may be more common than we realize. I remember seeing an episode of the TV series, Naked and Afraid where one of the female participates ate some poisonous fruit, and she and others had severe stomach pains from the poison, and the young lady began to frantically tear at her clothes as well as remove her clothes. The producers had to intervene and get her medical attention.

Yeah, Oddy. My mother had a copy of Anger's "Hollywood Babylon." Holy smokes! This was, like, in the 70's or 80's when that book came out complete with lots of photos. It was mesmerizing reading. Arbuckle got a bad rap. His silent comedy films are precious unto all humanity. Slapstick transcends all cultures. It's zany and requires very unique, athletic actors. He was so marvelous.
@ObsoleteOddity5 күн бұрын
It certainly was mesmerising, especially as an impressionable child - I never forgot that book. I do remember, if my memory serves me correctly that is - a passage about Fatty being stopped by police years later, and they had witnessed him throwing a bottle out of the car window. The police said he was clearly drunk and then when they asked him what he had done with the bottle - he said he “got rid of the evidence” and then apparently laughed hysterically - Anger, no doubt alluding to the champagne bottle rumour.
