The greatest thing about 2023 concerning this film is that you can watch it all for free in YT itself because some mad lad uploaded it. As for the film, yes it's just... mad. But I feel no negative emotions towards it when I first watched it on Cable TV over 10 years ago and just laat week when I decide to watch it. It's a comfort of sorts. Besides, I like Mike Myers. He may hate this film (and the scene with the contract is certainly him airing out how much he hate this whole thing which he is forced to do because of a contract) it's still a comfort nonetheless...

Perfectly encapsulates some of the "criticisms" I've seen of even the most grounded, realistic stories; I've even seen biopics about real people get that kind of complaint - (for real, my grandma complained when 2010's "The King's Speech" depicted him facing problems in his life).

The live action cat in the hat has always been a big guilty pleasure for me ever since I was a kid something from this flick always stuck with me wither good or bad. Not to mention I just think it’s very funny. it a good movie “objectively” no considering there’s cringy moments that went over my head as a kid and I wish they didn’t exist but personal enjoyment wise I’ll always have a place in my heart for it. My memories of this movie and the speed racer live action live in the same wrinkle of my brain. It is funny though thinking about how alternative CITH was compared to the LA grinch and the other animated dr seuss movies. And once again we need more vibrantly designed/colored stuff like this. Just a couple nights ago, I hosted a movie night for the 1971 Cat in the Hat special and the 2003 Cat in the Hat film. Upon watching them, while I never considered either horror-adjacent, there is something people tend to forget about the Cat when comparing adaptations: the Cat was never meant to be a morally upstanding character. This is something that was forgotten in more recent adaptations, like The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!, and even between the '71 and '03 versions in The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat. Both of these portrayed the Cat as well-meaning and far more innocent. In both the 1971 and 2003 films, both Cats are portrayed as being the good guy and worthy of sympathy. At least up until the ending. In both versions, he manages to get the attention of both of the kids, getting them to partake in his antics, though how willing they are depends on the version. But in both... well, let's just look at what he does in 1971 version. 1971: His immediate instinct is to intrude upon their house, while the mother is out. Krinklebine, objecting to this behavior, proceeds to be tormented by the Cat as he nearly kills the fish through magic bubbles. "Up, Up, Up, With a Fish!" Despite being willing to leave after this, he immediately comes back for his "Moss-Covered Three-Handled Family Gradunza", which not only does he accuse Krinklebine of stealing, but at the end it turns out he had it all along. He defaces everything and leads the kids to help him to try and find it. He then brings out the Things to clean up the mess he made, only for them to focus on torturing and attempting to kill Krinklebine. And every time his actions are pointed out, he breaks out in song to essentially manipulate the kids into sympathizing with him. While he attempts to teach different lessons in both versions, this doesn't sound too different from the 2003 version, now does it? The thing I'd say the 2003 version did better was provide genuine stakes and a slightly clearer moral compass for the Cat. He allowed all it to happen, in his own bizarre way, to teach them about being able to appreciate their mother more and be willing to take the blame for the better. And by them learning their lesson, rather than their mother just being on her way home, *that's* when he helps them. Not to get out of trouble, but to get the kids out of trouble as a favor.

The way I've had it pointed out to me, the moral of The Cat in the Hat is: It's okay to make a mess and be a bit rambunctious while playing, but there is such thing as too much. The kids have fun with the cat at first, but soon his craziness becomes too much for them and they get the cat to help clean up as an apology. If anything, it's The Cat that learns the lesson as much as the kids.

After the previous two years, my birthday movie had been a Harry Potter and The Grinch being my most watched DVD at that point, this movie was a little disappointing lol

Even with this movie being...well...what it is, i have fond memories of it. I still Chuckle at Cat's not so subtle threats in the kitchen and i repeated the "Wized in my Taco" line at nauseum years ago. And Hang on at the end credits is a bop. But yeeeea, other than that, movie might have fared better being locked in the crate with thing 1 and thing 2.
