If the song is about going too fast and choosing the wrong path, acquiring massive wealth but still feeling empty, and then at the end it is revealed it is a video game for people trying to escape reality, then what is the solution? Feel like you have everything but really have nothing, or really have nothing and pretend you have everything. Is love really the only answer?
@playmaster_plus
@playmaster_plus Жыл бұрын
The video game thing was just representative for the larger themes in the story, (appearances versus reality and trying to escape reality with fantasies). If one has real love, (be it family love, friendship love, or romantic love) then they should have more of a sense of belonging and importance rather than the hollow emptiness that out protagonists feels from the meaningless idealization from his consumers. He's sold his life to wealth and fame, and feels as though he's missed out on it's true joys

The song isn't about suicide, the song is about "Imposter Syndrome", by the quote in the song "I feel fear for the very last time" it means he's leaving his emotions to be who his fans want him to be and expect him to be. He's lying about himself about who he is. He has all this fame but feels like he doesn't deserve it. He also feels like his fans are giving him too much power and choosing quality or quantity. By "too much power" that means his fans are saying "do whatever you want", which makes him feel like everything he does just earns him money without actually doing much effort because of his fans giving him too much power and that makes him feel like what he does is just giving him money without much effort, like Midas the god. Everything he touches turns gold, he gets rich without any effort. Also, when he says "I'm losing touch, you get me?". He's saying that like mentioned, Midas, he's losing touch with his fans and surrounded by fame and fortune, and no longer feeling like he's part of humanity, but like a god. "..they let me lie to them..." mean that his fans are not even suspecting anything about what he's saying and just believes him without any evidence of what he said was true or not. (not my work but feel like I should spread this)

This is how our English teachers expect us to analyze something. All jokes aside, this is a really well-made video. My ordinary life is truly a deep and horrifying song behind that bright and fun animation style. To me, that final verse could also means that the man is about to commit suicide. "Lean in, let go, I feel fear for the very last time" that part might refer to him jumping off a highest place as he reminds himself (and to us) that this will be the last time he had to put up with all the stress and high expectation from society as well as the phobia of not living up to his image because hey, no point of caring all that if you're more dead than you already figuratively are.

I think similar the biblical story of "jonah and the whale" it was another metaphorical depiction of the myth of icarus who flew too high to the sun. It may be referring to the protagonist's lack of fear and precaution which caused him to have too much self confidence (mirroring the myth) and which will be his hamaria (like icarus who got too engrossed in his own freedom and forgot the words of warning of his father).

I believe this because I've been a fan since he started doing FNAF songs and I've loved all his other songs as well. I noticed back then he would get a ton of people asking him to make more constantly, so there was a lot of pressure to stick with that kind of music. I think eventually he had to stop for a little bit but came back because of the FNAF movie. I don't know about the more recent stuff as I haven't kept up with it but I definitely do feel like there's some feelings of his within My ordinary life.

I love the sudden shift in the meaning of the chorus, at first, it feels as if it's boasting, “Staying still, eyes closed, let the world just pass me by” At first, it's “Oh, just look at me breeze through life with no worries” but when it plays again a second time, it becomes “Life is moving past me so quickly, I can't even keep up with it”. “Pain pills, nice clothes, if I fall I think I'll fly” When you first hear it, it's almost as if he's indulging in the riches and the ecstasy his fame and fortune have given him but when it's played again at the end, it's the only things that he has in his life now, it's devoid of everything he once had and is reduced to medication and accessories. “None to guide us” At first, it's a statement about his freedom, no one is pulling him on a leash anymore and telling him what to do, but on replay, it shows how lost he is and that he needs someone to guide him through life. “I feel fear for the very last time” This one is the easiest to decipher while at the exact same time being the darkest, at first, it's a rush of ecstasy that makes him feel as if he has no more shackles of fear but when you hear it again at the end, he literally means he's going to feel fear for the VERY LAST TIME as in he's going to commit [REDACTED]

I have my own theory of the end of the song being about an overdose leading to his death. Because he is at an all time low in his mental state and is desperately seeking true happiness . So he decides to overdose on drugs to numb the pain completely and put him self in a state of pure bliss like when he says “world is below so high up I’m near divine” before he eventually dies “lean in let go I feel fear for the very last time”. (And the music fades away)

I love this video, and I completely agree with a lot of your points. However, I feel like you left out the importance of substance abuse in the song. Throughout the song, the protagonist expresses his temporary relief from his wild life through drugs/probably pot, and that is his only way to cope. From lines like “eyes closed, let the world just pass me by,” and “so high up i’m near divine,” and “lean in, let go,” we can see this is sort of like being high, and the lean in let go is probably a reference to leaning in to take a hit of a blunt, and then feeling euphoric. The same can be said about the ending scene, where the room is seemingly filled with smoke, and their eyes are bloodshot. The friends he’s with as well probably encouraged this substance abuse behavior, as they only appear in the story after the Lion receives a better, faster car than the original. The only time he probably feels a connection with them, is when they’re high together, avoiding their problems.

As a The Living Tombstone fan who has also heard their album Zero_One, I noticed that many people make jokes in the comment sections like "Dear songwriter, are you ok?" It kinda worries me that since the group is relatively famous but also criticized by people for just taking advantage of popular indie or horror games to make songs about, that it can reflect the actual band members thoughts about their lives P.D You should also try to cover the Zero_One album

I love zero one. After that album, I think it’s safe to say the lyrics in my ordinary life aren’t very superficial and actually have relevance to TLT’s (yoav specifically I think) lives. I think maybe the protagonist of the songs is more of a loner type (at least compared to my ordinary life) and less bourgeois in zero_one, but either way I think they still come from the same place.

The end of the music video where it shows the animals in reality playing the game hit *way* too close to home. (12:57 - 13:14) I mean, holy shit it’s like he deliberately chose to air my dirty laundry. I often dive into a world of gaming that i know is fake, to ignore the reality and stress or disappointment from life around me. Most ppl on the outside think I look perfectly fine, fit, healthy and in a good mood most of the time, and have no idea that I’m actually super depressed and just try not to think about how shitty I feel in reality, and that on some days I feel like I’m dying inside. Sometimes I just wanna go into a corner and hide, and often times can’t even explain to ppl why I’ve made bad choices cuz I’m not great at putting my emotions or thoughts or the way I feel into words verbally.

Hey man great job! Your video actually reminds me of another person’s video which has been deleted, analyzing the original version of “I Got No Time” by TLT too. In that video she talks about how the lyrics can be interpreted as him venting about the struggles and mental health issues that he was facing while making music and especially FNAF songs. How he wanted the voices to be gone and to leave him be in peace, she also reversed parts of the song and you could hear whispering presumably from the actual song writer. Someone then enhanced the whispering and you could understand what he was saying. I don’t believe that anyone should suffer because of what they want to make and I hope that he’s feeling better these days.

2:25 Yeah, but also at the end we see them smoking with red eyes, "grass" and "dank" are both terms often related to weed, so I feel like that's a double meaning Also this song could either mean the guy gets detached from reality and his emotions, like you said with the "feeling fear for the very last time" or it could signify suicide, with the "if I fall I think I'll fly" which might say that he thinks if he falls, (commits suicide, probably by jumping off a building) he'll fly (go to heaven)

Wow… I only ever knew the “popular music artist” approach and that was it, but I never could really wrap my head fully around the song’s meaning. This explains SO much around the end, especially the characters becoming realistic, and the Game Over screen. I just assumed, “that’s for a random horror factor”, without realizing it had the intentions of details I missed like “WRONG WAY” where they were actually heading down a path of some sort. This is a great analysis, and I loved watching it! 2:05 I think this could be also interpreted as They say the grass is greener [on the other side] I think my grass(weed) is dank This could be someone telling him things are better if you live different (greener on the other side) and he deflects with a tangent about how his grass is dank. Which is another instance of materialism overriding deeper meaning in his life

I also think that the chorus: "Stayin' still, eyes closed Let the world just pass me by Pain pills, nice clothes If I fall, I think I'll fly Touch me, Midas Make me part of your design None to guide us I feel fear for the very last time" could also refer to him trying to kill himself, because he is asking for Midas to turn him to gold, thus killing him.

You try to read into every little thing, and find meaning in everything anyone says, you'll just drive yourself crazy. Had a friend do it once. Wasn't pretty. We talked about it for years. Although, with all the edits I've watched with this song, I get the gist of it being dark and depressing, despite of the vivid music video and upbeat tone of the song. I never did a thorough analysis into this song, but the title is what got me to listen to the lyrics when it first came out. I didn't really extrapolate this much information from it but the general understanding I had before this video was that it was a subtle self-call for help. TLT had become drunk on fame and the money that came with it, but wound up loosing touch with reality, struggling with depression and the drugs he used to get high and drown out his pain.

I think you may have misinterpreted "They think my grass is greener, I think My grass is dank" It most likely refers to marijuana use. Grass is pretty much a slang for pot and the usage of dank reinforces that. Not to mention the clearly stoned animals sitting in a miasma of smoke at the end

I feel that there are far darker undertones of suicide in many of the lines present here. "Touch me, Midas" for example, is a plead for death, but one that leaves behind something beautiful and precious, which in this case would be his music. "If I fall I think I'll fly" is another example. Where he is in a mindset where if he were to jump off somewhere tall in a suicidal attempt, he'd find heaven. And lastly "I feel fear for the very last time" has a double meaning, the first being the one you already stated, but the other being that if he dies, he wont need to feel fear ever again. This is a really deep song, and I love your analysis of it.

This video is pretty cool. I do have some tough love criticism: I think this video would've benefited from being a half as long, if not shorter. It wasn't fully necessary to interpret every single line individually. A lot of them are pretty self explanatory when just read out in this context. It felt like 50% of the first section was you just you rephrasing the lyrics directly without really adding much additional context. (Also I'm like 90% certain "my grass is dank" is a reference to weed) That being said, I liked your interpretation of the visuals of the video. You pointed out a lot interesting things.

For me the line "The people always different but it always feels the same" felt like it was more referring to music producers and the people who helped achieve his mass success. I mainly think this because of the mermaid that appeared while this line was playing. For me it conveys this feeling that even while he was just beginning his road to succes a feeling of loneliness and alienation was already looming over him.

Hey! Great video! Just wanted to put down my own opinion about the song also.. Lay still, restless: He is restless because he is in a mental recess, he keeps spiraling down getting worse. Losing sleep while I lose my mind: As he mentioned before, he can't bear thinking anymore, so as a result he also can't sleep. While also spiraling down, not getting enough sleep makes him even worse, aka 'making him lose his mind'. All thrill, no stress: He keeps trying to fill his life with various things (probably alcohol, drugs, parties etc.) to escape from the stress his mental instability causes. All my muses left behind (left behind): When he first started, he had a passion, a reason, a 'muse' that drove him to making art but as he got more and more popular he was forced to make more commercial and mass consumable songs and his art lost his meaning for the sake of fame and money. It doesn't mean anything to him anymore. World is below So high up, I'm near-divine (I'm so high up): I consider this line to have two meanings that complement each other. First one is the general thing of the song, how people see him as 'perfect' and as a 'god'. He is so high placed in everyone's eyes, he can have anything he wants and there are no restrictions in his life that he feels he is 'divine'. Also, my interpretation is that he is standing on the edge of a rooftop (or building or something of that sort), looking down on the world as he sees everything from above. And he is near divine because he is about to suicide and ascend to the other world. Lean in, let go: This is the action of throwing himself off. He is leaning in, letting go of everything that troubles his restless mind and ending everything, finally. I feel fear for the very last time: The repetition of this line leads me to believe that he either knew from the start that he was going down the wrong road and would eventually end up killing himself, or that from the moment his art and his life stretched beyond his control and got too big for his own good, he was thinking about that moment that he would feel fear for the very last time (his suicide), in a longing way. He wanted to feel fear of his life, his self, his fans or his money for the last final time so that his mind could get its long awaited rest (sleep/death). There are also other lines that make me believe he got suicidal after his life got 'poisoned' by his fame and money, and those are: If I fall, I think I'll fly: I think in this line he starts to get lost in the delusion of him being a 'god' that he fears when he jumps to his death, he won't even fall and die, he will fly. This is how his fans' delusion of him being perfect gets in his mind. Can you heal me? Have I gained too much?: This might be him contemplating if he is too far gone to be saved, too far gone to not suicide. He wonders if there is an 'out', if he can get better. Stayin' still, eyes closed Let the world just pass me by: This also resembles of someone who is standing on the edge (of a rooftop maybe), with closed eyes, letting the world just pass him by. With him repeating this 3 times in the song can mean that he always felt on the edge of killing himself, if he didn't distract himself by doing the 'thrilling things' he mentions in the last chorus. This can also be connected to the line "It hurts me just to think and I don't do pain". He might have tried his best to distract himself of the pain he was experiencing, until finally it all boiled down to the last chorus, where he can't escape the lure of eternal rest, thoughtlessness and final sleep. He feels fear for the very last time. This was kinda long but I love this song and was happy that finally someone decided to analyze it! Thanks for reading
