I saw the 2000 extended version at the theatre. I was about 12 years old. When the spider-walk scene was shown, I got so shocked that I remember my heart started beating super fast and wasn't able to speak properly for like 5 minutes. My dad asked me if I was ok, but I couldn't even speak, so he just gave me hug to calm myself down. After I finished watching the film, I had nightmares for about a week or so. No other film has impacted my life, at least a horror movie, like this one.

they admitted that people working on the set had passed away doing this film.. also the demon for this film is Pazuzu.. also fun fact they used subliminal sounds of pigs getting slaughtered among other sick gruesome sounds in the background.. im 27 years old today.. ive watched many horror films in my life for the enjoyment.. but i have never and probally will never watch this film.. no sir.. im sure my reaction wouldve been similar to yours at that tender age, i was already having seizures at that age.. and i was already psychically sensitive (seeing things, lucid dreaming, etc..) ive actually cut down on my horror the only films to freak me out is the woman in black, V/H/S, Sinister, but you want to watch a good scare watch this Asian film i forget what its called.. i need to look it up again

@Arthur Workman That must have been pretty bad. Now that I'm an older adult, I have actually seen some of the film, most of it, in snippets as well as a really interesting documentary that's on KZbin about the making of it. That kind of desensitized me a bit. Especially when you watch the clips without the soundtrack and it's just actress's own voice saying the lines. Even By today's standards, given the level of graphic violence and horror you can see in pretty much any movie, it would probably still be terrifying. by the way, another scene that had a powerful effect on me was from the first Dirty Harry film. When Harry Callahan shoots the Scorpio killer in the leg, in the middle of a football field. A truly harrowing scene. also on KZbin. Brilliantly shot.

I am 25 years old, in recent years something of a horror connoisseur of the thought-provoking, psychological variety. First saw this (or rather, scenes of it) when I was 15. Scared me a lot. Watched the whole thing through as an adult a couple years ago: deep, subtle thrill, and an especially well-done film in my opinion. An excellent presentation of a conflict between the spiritual reality pervading despite its denunciation by "modern" assumptions against its existence, despite their being at the end of the day, unconvincing and inconclusive. The crux of one man's crisis of faith being resolved via his call to help an innocent child beleaguered by it is moving and impactful in such a world of shallow faith as ours.

This should've included Ramblin' Man from The Allman Brothers (for the scene in the bar where Karras tells his friend he's not fit to be a Priest; "I'm losing my faith Tom). Also, I really wish I can find the song that is playing in the background (sounds like a Grateful Dead rip-off) during the scene where Father Dyer is comforting a drunk Karris and then steals his shoes (just before the classic nightmare sequence). The song is listed on IMDB as "Down on 33rd and 3rd, and the band is called Partygoers).

"Down on 33rd and 3rd" is actually the song the party goers are singing around the piano at Chris' party. The "rock" music playing in the background as Dyer is comforting Karras is actually another, later portion of "Tubular Bells."

So, you're all down with the demon getting two priests? If you pay close attention to the story, you realize that he was totally after Fr.
