The making of this movie is such an interesting one because it was such a troubled shoot. First of all Jamie Lee Curtis was originally pursued for the role of Reagan, the director was a notorious A hole on set and kept the temperature of the bedroom set freezing cold to get an authentic effect of the actors breaths during the exorcism scene. He shot guns out of nowhere to get genuine scares out of the actors, injured Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn’s backs and used their reactions as the takes you see in the movie. Linda Blair actually developed scoliosis later on in her life due to the injury she sustained.

I still remember seeing the footage audience reactions from walking out of the theater in the past when this came out. Honey they were NOT READY. We are now so used to the possessed girl trope, this film started it back then and it was during the satanic panic era, so no wonder people were fainting, crying, and screaming out of the theater.

That figure he found in the beginning is the same figure in the state, which is of a Mesopotamian Demon named Pazuzu. Fun fact, he was used to ward off lesser demons in Mesopotamian culture and, more specifically, was a protector of pregnant woman and mothers. I'm sure there's more stuff about it that ties into the movie, and the themes of the film. I just recently learned that and it made me look that the film a bit different. There are some pretty good videos that go deeper into explaining the themes of the film.
@DW.Strangeman8 ай бұрын
Wondered if anyone would mention this. From a Demonology point of view(obviously not science) Lamasthu is the most likely to possess with Pazuzu calling for Merrin to help Reagan. In some religions effigies of Pazuzu are still worn by pregnant women, like a St. Christopher to ward off evil spirits. A life size version, like in the film would never be used as it would make them an idoloder bringing them to life. Apparently 😬

Should've won Best actress Ellen Burstyn, best supporting actress Linda Blair, best supporting actor Jason Miller, best director William Friedkin, best special effects, best make up, best editing, best sound and best movie. It won for Screenplay and Audio. But robbed of the others. It was Jason Millers and Linda Blairs first movie. And Friedkin won the Oscar for best director the year before with the French Connection. The book was a huge success and great. And there's no connection to Damien in the Omen. 👍🏾

I think in the beginning when Merrin finds that figure, he KNOWS it means the demon will be possessing someone again. The other priests mention how he almost died in a previous exorcism. The demon also knows the name Merrin. To me the implication is that this has been an ongoing battle between Merrin and this particular demon. At the end, Merrin knows what he's dealing with and the demon knows who it's dealing with, Karras is the one who is kind of clueless.
