This is a good demonstration video of how to use a baton and when to use it for beginners. Sucks that most cops these days don't use batons that often when restraining a criminal. I know there's other options like taser or pepper spray but a baton is more effective when striking on their weak spots of the body. Like shown here for example. 2:38

I've practiced a bit with my 16" baton, and it always feels more natural to hold the baton in my right hand but over my left shoulder with my elbow up. This lets me use it in closer quarters and sets me up to strike at their dominant side. They'll instinctively raise their dominant arm to protect their head, and the baton will break that arm. (I've added weights to the tip and end segment to increase the chance of breaking bone.) I'm not LEO, just a guy who lives in a city and doesn't want to get jumped by a pack of wild man-sized teenagers. The plan is to use it and run, not to stick around and explain myself to police.
@topkev
@topkev 10 жыл бұрын
in that position it would be extremely easy to prevent you from swinging the baton. the idea of having the weak arm forward and baton hand back is to prevent the bad-guy from stopping you swing the stick

HawkGTboy it is cool you do the practicing and i understand why you want it but you do know in some city's and states you have to have a permit for a baton otherwise it is a big fine or even a felony the course is not that hard to take if you want to take the course you should first go to your local PD and ask if you need it then if you do ask where it is i highly recomened getting the permit it saves alot of hassle if you get stopped by the police

+topkev Completely agree. Also, if the assailant is armed, one solid strike at his exposed elbow may effectively render his arm holding the weapon useless.

One update that has occurred since this training videos date, is that one should not back step when deploying the baton, rather they should strafe and pivot to get them selves out of the attackers line of force.

Thanks. When we went to the ASP (expandable baton) we got a little PC scared. Started training hitting large muscle groups. Don't work. And all you patrol guys know it . It is a great tool, however, you need to hit JOINTS!!! not large muscle!!!!. I took down a big!!! canadian with strikes to the shins, elbow and collar bone. The practice is to try and bend the baton. That is how you know it works. Hit the joints!!!!
@mikeggg5671
@mikeggg5671 Жыл бұрын
You aim for the large muscle groups. If you happen to hit the joint, well things happen in the field during use of force incidents. But you are always aiming for the large fatty padded muscle groups. You know that and so do I

WD 40 is not oil or a lubricant, it is a water displacer, thus the WD name.
@TheDistantEnd
@TheDistantEnd 6 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure WD-40 is formulated with oils and is definitely marketed as a penetrating oil. Is it heavy duty? No. Is it likely enough to keep rust off of a stainless steel baton? Definitely.
@ShadyJ911

Not too bright, are ya? WD is made with oils. All oils are water displacement; hence the reason water and oil don't mix.

A baseball bat generates a lot of force/pain because the weight is in the tip. How much force can be generated in a collapsible baton when the weight is in the handle and the tip is small and lightweight? Videos like this are useless words. Start smacking some wooden dowels of various sizes so we can see the effect of hitting bone with the tip.
