The producer of the show, Naren Shankaar, worked on Star Trek back in the day. I have this notion that this scene is his way of saying: "No, people actually don't die instantly when a console blows up." 😁

His way of saying to Star trek productions and people who invested in the new shows . This is what would happen in space you idiots and to be fair to him people who study space and all that all say this show is the most realistic way of living in space is like In away I wish I was around in 200 plus years to see how far we have come In space and to see has Mars been lived on and stuff. I'm jealous of the future people. But in another way I'm upset that that people pumping oil and things out of the ground there will be no earth like we know it today sea levels will probably have risen so high my local city some of it could be like Venice sad really what money makes people not care about earth. Hearing the old pirate offer up the Behemoth as a safe harbor to all was such a fist pump moment for me. The Behemoth served a far greater purpose than the Navoo was intended to. Instead of taking an isolated group to A distant star, it helped all of humanity reach for the future, starting with helping heal people! And all this from the faction that had been put down and belittled.

Tilly's tears in Zero G makes the scene even more heartbreaking to watch. She's in so much pain and is dying while revealing the truth about Melba to Anna and yet she's unable to shed the tears from her eyes. Seeing those tear droplets build up around her eyeballs as her life begins to fade out breaks me every time I watch this scene. The level of detail that goes into this show is phenomenal and is not just used solely for effect but plays a part in the storytelling too. The Expanse by far is my favourite scifi show.

You asked questions about the character of Miller the investigator. Worth remembering that the protomolecule got the hat from Millers mind, as he left the hat behind, before he encountered Julie. Also worth remembering that when Miller returned to Eros he posed the question " The protomolecule infected Julie, maybe Julie infected the protomolecule back".
@AWSOM8174 жыл бұрын
Using spacesuit in the age of the Expanse would be like using a car/motorcycle in the age of industry. Everybody kind of know it how, probably include in basic education and had strengthen it throughout life, esp on exploratory mission like this one. Emergency drill about how to evacuate the ship on a moment's notice were more essential in space, and that is general knowledge in the age of Expanse, remember Diogo when he was thrown out by his uncle. Klaes had ambition but also has principles, for me he is an equivalent of Avasarala on Belter side. These are fire(gas) and liquid behave on space. Made me smile. The prod crew had science class for each scene to produce as much as realism possible, so yeah they not only smart people but learned people.
@Vipre-4 жыл бұрын
Miller did explain what was going on it was just lost among everything else. The Protomolecule built the ringgate, the gate was sending out a signal and getting no response, it needed a way to investigate so it recreated Miller and contacted Holden who could take Miller to the station to find out why there was no response. As we learned in the last episode there was no response because the civilization who it was trying to contact was extinct.
@sverebom70694 жыл бұрын
The show doesn't spoonfeed everything to the viewer. You will eventually understand the nature of Miller's existence as The Investigator. With that knowledge you can then go back and for example understand what happened in these moments when Miller disappeared and then returned to tell Holden about Julie. The same is true for many other details. The show is worth a second or third watch to spot these little connections. I have stopped counting how often I have watched the show and I still find new details that connect dots in the background.

I think Ashford shut Diogo up because he was trash talking a Belt legend who was his captain, nothing more sinister. He can't afford to reward disloyalty. I had similar doubts to you about Anna, but it was in the book. Maybe space passengers all get drilled in putting on airsuits the same way we get fire evac drills and air passenger drills and ship-board drills? Suit up, jump and wait for pick-up? I recall the two media people that Amos pushed out of the Roci knew how to suit up and they got back to the Thomas Prince or whatever. Yeah, I just talked myself into it.

@samfetter29684 жыл бұрын
It would be a security precaution to teach everyone this. The void is deadly. No matter what else is happening. So yea...the thing you talked your self into is actually the most likely explanation. Also we know Anna to be super level headed. Remember when she got hit during the protests?
@rasmuskjrbyepetersen88624 жыл бұрын
I think flying a spacesuit at this point in time is like driving a car today. Even if you don't have a license, you still have some idea how it works - enough for an emergency. And the suit is probably close to idiot-proof. As for why Anna did it. I think she was too pissed to think rationally. Just jump in the suit and follow Melba/Clarissa. And we did see her take a stun baton from an injured crewman.

Every horrible thing they saw it do was what happened when humans used it against other people, but they seem to be blaming the tech for everything, and thinking it has some diabolical scheme. @xerozeven4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. She is essentially a diplomat on a military vessel more akin to a naval ship. Civilians/non-military personnel show up on aircraft carriers all the time without training or having even basic shipboard fire fighting knowledge or how to stay alive if you fall overboard. It's possible she obtained some training along the way or could have been just as new to things like Avasarala. More inclined to agree with you though as she must have put her suit on quick and knew how to use the thrusters to even survive. The bigger question as someone pointed out in another comment, how do these people have unfettered access to potentially ship destroying, personnel killing air locks? I'm sure there are safeties in place, but still...potential for decompressing a ship is there, multitudes more so for someone who doesn't know what they are doing. Things like that would be restricted I assume, even in the event of calamity like what happened to these ships.
@AWSOM8174 жыл бұрын
@xerozeven, Melba already got her 'general key access' as part of her cover job as mechanic ship maintenance, we could see this episode prior when she checked where Roci position was to Thomas Prince, Anna got hers when she went looking for Melba from an officer that too busy to handle her request to apprehend Melba in this episode. For the know-how to access airlock I think in Expanse, it was already general knowledge, as shown multiple times, human had been space faring people for quite a while.

It wasn't so much that the big ships didn't have seven months of food on them, but it's that they're trapped in orbit around the nucleus and can only seen out skifs like the one Holden's currently on, which simply wouldn't have the room to hold seven months' worth of supplies.

Think of Holden as a very advance "hand terminal"/iPad that walk around and touch and manipulate stuff for the Investigator Miller. And you can think of the Investigator as an avatar of a super advance AI. The Investigator want to "look up the record" at the nucleus station but it doesn't has any physical form to plug itself in to look up the file. So it uses a hand terminal (that is Holden) to plug in to the station and download the records. Sure the download was so massive that it almost kill Holden, but the investigator got the information off from the nucleus station. BTW, in the novel, Anna was so high on pain meds when she went after Clarissa. Although the show didn't say it, I think She is probably high too :D

Anna and the spacesuit; (sounds like a Belters children's book 😀) it took weeks to months to travel out to the Ring from Earth (the ring is out by Uranus). You'd have plenty of time to give the civilian passengers general safety training including spacesuits and EVA thrusters. At the very least to keep them occupied during the long voyage. Think of it like lifeboat evacuation instructions on a Caribbean Cruise ship or the seatbelt and oxygen mask speech on an airplane.
@Riku-zv5dk4 жыл бұрын
It only makes sense on a long voyage that passengers would be trained to use a space suit, if their is an accident there is no guarantee that there will be crew there to assist them, plus suits have probably reached a point were it isn't that hard to put them on, I mean suits today aren't that hard to, you just need to know how. One just has to look at the Belters who have to live and breath by their suits, their only lifeline in an emergency, so it really isn't surprising she can use it.

Good thoughts about Proto-Miller's existence. Regarding Anna not having been in zero-gee: Remember that most capital ships are under constant acceleration (some percentage of Earth-gee) all the way to the skew-flip point, then they're decelerating all the way to their destination. So their periods of zero-gee are very limited and passengers are probably strapped in during those times. So they wouldn't have gotten much experience or training in that aspect of the flight, beyond emergency procedures.

Miller "explained" his presence to Holden in scientific jargon, including the terms "quantum" and "close-timeline curves." This implies that in addition to being able communicate with itself across vast distances, the Protomolecule can communicate between past and future. So Holden's vision might be of a past mass-extermination, or a future one. Some here have made the case that the planets the beam travels past in Holden's vision before detonating the sun, look very like the more distinctive worlds in our own solar system. But the sun itself is not yellow to start, but red. So if it is Sol system, it remains to be seen if it's in the far future, or the very distant past, at a point when the sun is in a red giant phase.

I think the writers or someone is wanting the show pacing picked up. As you said the books would not finish until the middle of the next season until we got to 3. Now in season 4 we're seeing things that don't happen until book 5.
@KeithDCanada4 жыл бұрын
@@golfr-kg9ss They have to do that when they translate from a book to a television show. In the books you can have a character not show up for the entire book with no effort... but on a tv show the actor has a contract and cant just be left out of an entire season... so they have to pick and choose certain storylines that may not be happening at exactly the same time in the books, and tell them as if they were on a tv screen so everyone still has their jobs.

Awesome reaction, guys! The book goes through how Ana was able to get up the nerve to chase after Clarissa is hilarious. She was give a mixture of amphetamines and painkillers and she was high as kite. It took a while to get to the Roci and on the way the drug effects wore off and she's like, WTF am I doing? Lol The drugs amplified her impulsiveness. I love Drummer's comment, If this is another one of your teaching moments, I prefer to bleed out. What other show or movie has someone going around with a shop vac sucking up floating blood? So many firsts in this show. I'm sure we'll see it in the future, but it will be a rip from the Expanse.

The Anna scene was something I question myself. Could be something like the lifejacket / lifeboot instructions you get when you go on a cruise maybe ... At least that's my feeble explanation for that. Again, I look forward to your reaction to the next two episodes.

I find it amusing that everyone questions Ana's ability to use the suit but not Clarrisa's. Anyway I think the suits are quite automated get in find an object in your visual perspective and tell it to take you there so it's not they are piloting on their own.
@SingWhileYouMay4 жыл бұрын
@@golfr-kg9ss Operating a vac suit seems like a very basic skill considering the consequences of decompression aboard a ship, so it's likely part of even a rushed training course. What I find more questionable is that a ship like that with many civilians aboard wouldn't require authorization for opening airlocks.

golfr1369 Clarissa was maintenance personnel, makes more sense that she would know how to use the equipment. I imagine some maintenance scenarios involve EVA. We’ve also seen her piloting a shuttle. I agree that, from what we’ve seen of Ana, it seems a stretch for her to have been willing and able to do that. It’s one of the events the book does more plausibly.

Last 6-7 episodes of Season 3 are actually a whole book. The show had to cut off a lot of stuff to finish where the book finishes. The whole story of Anna is missing. She is much more interesting in the books. She knows how to put on a suit, she has been in Zero G and she has military experience. The show was also cancelled because of the idiots from SciFi Channel. However, the fans saved the show through Amazon. Season 4 will be shorter, only 10 episodes which sucks. I have more hopes for the coming Season 5, because Book 5 is my favourite book up till now.

Just one, tiny comment. Flying suits have to be computer controlled - you have very advanced software in the series using graphene based hardware. Even the most basic, cheapest hand terminal from the Expanse (200 years in future!) is beyond our reach right now so imagine how advanced is the stuff which runs military grade space suits. If you can recall episode 4 from season 2 - the one with planting the nukes on Eros. There was a moment when they were boarding the station and the moment when they were supposed to leave it. If you watch the scene when Miller decides to stay and tells Diogo to leave you will notice that he young Belter simply activated his suit and flew away - there was nothing complicated about leaving because this equipment is supposed to be believable and work in this setting. You don't want to make things too difficult to run in space - the place is just too deadly to make your life difficult when wearing a suit. Compared to those our XXIst century diving suits are death traps.
@nottopcat59564 жыл бұрын
Tomasz Mankowski actually I think Diogo flew away because Eros is spinning and he let go. Inside Eros the spin pins you to the outer edge, giving you spin gravity. Outside, the spin will fling you into space, unless you’re attached to something with mag boots. Also if it were that easy to use the suits then Miller wouldn’t have messed up his approach so badly.

That wounds not healing thing is pretty inaccurate btw. Yes, big puncture wounds would need gravity to clear the blood, but most bleedings happen in very tiny paths, where the capillary effect drains the blood, so it doesn't clot. I mean here on Earth you can puncture the upper side of your arm, and what happens? The blood spills up at the top, gravity has nothing to do with it. According to the explanation in the show the blood would stay inside your arm, because "gravity". No, the capillary action moves the blood, no matter the gravity.
