It’s not even really that expensive. It’s kind of annoying, but you can pick and choose what you want to a degree. If you only wanted to spend like $25, you can still have the core essentials. But you can basically pay a full release game amount of money and have pretty much every single dlc there is as long as you didn’t buy them one at a time the day they came out. I think you can pretty much get just about everything except the most recent map for like $40 and be done with it.

In the movie Waterworld, the ship is used as the Smokes main base of operations aswell as city and is called the Deez. Towards the climax of the film when the ship is destroyed, you can read the old worn and rusted name on the back of the Deez as it sinks, it reading Exxon Valdez.

The original release of theHunter had a $200 one-time 'lifetime pass' where you could use all of the ammo and supplies in unlimited quantities without ever having to pay anything else. I really loved the game at the time, so I sprung for it. It's definitely not everyone's bag, but for people who are enthusiastic about hunting and want as realistic of an experience as a video game can offer, it *is* a really good hunting game. But then, several years later, they emailed us life-timers to notify us that they were ending support for the pass and that we were all going to have to pay for limited-use supplies again. I've never been quite sure how to feel about that. On the one hand, I can't say I REGRET the $200 purchase - I did enjoy my time with the game, and I felt like I got my money's worth over the thousands of hours I put in. But on the other hand, they shouldn't have called it a 'lifetime membership' if they were gonna just pull it a few years later. That left a bad taste in my mouth. It makes me wonder if one of these days they're going to find a way to just pull everyone's DLC and repackage it to sell it back to them somehow? Because that's basically what they did to us with the first game. I played COTW for a little while, but something about the increasing commercialization of it just rubs me the wrong way. They've found more and more ways to nickel-and-dime their players over the years and finally it reached a point where the charm was completely ruined.

Played the hunter classic, never spent a cent, had a shit ton of fun. Unreal how much fun that game can be, graphics be damned. Before anyone asks about playtime, the only thing I've bought is a snakebite compound bow, so I barely progressed. Go into these games without expectations, put some energy into it and you will get enjoyment out of it.

Kind of a disingenuous representation of this game tbh, for one thing, you can play any of the dlc maps on a multiplayer server even if you do not own the dlc, for another all of the dlc are much cheaper than dlc in most games these days and frequently go on sale for even cheaper. the map owner cause also set up tents all over the map that anyone can fast travel to and use, again even if they don't have the dlc. Also, you really aren't intended to hunt from the ATV's, which is why you sometimes felt like you couldn't find anything, being on an atv at all spooks everything within hundreds of meters from you.

ive put some hours into the hunter cotw and at the start i also thought there is no animals on the map but as you play you learn that animals are pretty easy to scare and if you move around the map slower you start seeing them more and more.

Playing this, I always thought it's a massive shame they haven't tacked on some form of simple pvp or battle royale mode, or split it off into a spinoff product. It would be incredibly efficient to make, and the terrain and foliage quality is almost unmatched. It's a shame that such amazing land is trapped in an especially rigid and stuffy simulator.

Sam, from watching Mr. Sark's old videos I need to tell you. Go to the mountains and get as high as you can and drive off the mountain with the ATV so you fall sideways, some wacky shit will happen. Also Try getting the ATV inside of the tent when you respawn/fast travel to it

I've played so much of this game with friends just fucking around. Jumping off cliffs landing on ATVs, bouncing 1000ft into the air and surviving. Gunning down herds with broken AI. Griefing people who take this shit way too seriously. It's a blast.

While you're totally right about the DLC stuff, I actually really enjoyed this game as part of embracing my old man era. I don't have the backpack DLC but you can just use tents to pull things out of your magician hat inventory and then unplace the tent. On the pace of the game, it's more fun to hang around certain high activity areas and see what shows up, rather than endlessly chasing some animal that hears you as soon as you're within range to try to catch them. Generally bodies of water in the early morning or big open plains areas.
