since when was fashion (especially this era) in the punk scene have "rules" if Wattie wants to wear a "Swastika" on his shirt...fuck it. Isn't pissing people off part of the "scene". If you wanna wear an anti-gay shirt...fuck it. Your gonna obviously piss people off, but hey...Punk is about being "pissed" off in the first place. To each their own...quit playing fashion police with people like Wattie...Listen to the music,go to the show, support the cause, & enjoy life! Fuck em' if they can't take a joke!

Ffirst of all by that time punk fashion was already something recognizabke and definable, so it was ALL about rules: you had the right hair, accessorizing and clothing and that was it.The symbology and messages you would wear would come from that freedom of expression and individuality, so you wore what defined you. I can see the point of the swastika (not figurative, man, they were literal swastikas with no need to be put between quotation marks) in the proto punk shit of the early seventies, when punk was more about the edge than directly voicing the outcast of society. BUT THEY WERE CALLED "THE EXPLOITED" FOR GODS SAKE, it just sounds like they are selling you "the solution" just like the actual nazis did in germany and then right wing morons did with skinheads year later. Pissing people off is part of the non-conformist, anti-establishment kind of attitude of punk, and I don't see where an anti-gay message could be going against status quo, specially considering that (even heterosexual) anal sex was A FELLONY (!!!) until the mid 70's in Englad, as an example. Unless it's ironically put (as in being a queer person wearing it, or a black/jewish-blooded person wearing the swastika) it's the least punk thing of all time to spread a message of hate to the outcast. It just shows how much of a privileged prick you could be, dressing up in a bunch of originally gay/bdsm clothing and being a homophobic and racist asshole as enjoying a hedonixtic lifestyle out of a scene from and to people that had nowhere else to be. And, hey, it's okay to make mistakes and think stupid shit, not recognizing it and revisting your way of thinking that is fucking moronic. And I know that's a fucking two year old comment but I'm also all about pissing off the man, even if by spamming their e-mail inbox with comment answers

They were one of a handful of bands who were better than the usual shit. Musically they were fantastic. The bass in particular grabs me. I actually respect the Exploited.

What I hate about punk is that folk with the same goals fight eachother. As for folk that slag punk off, they got on my nerves. They just didn't see how much we NEEDED punk.

Loved all this stuff as a teenager, Discharge, Exploited,GBH, Vice Squad etc had the bike jacket the tarten pants and DMs. I have to say though for me this stuff hasnt aged as well as the original punk stuff, which drew from a bigger pot, dub/avant garde/glam/krautrock. No I'm older I can see it was a load of shite.

UK82 punk outshines the original 1st wave for me. But I can understand nothing beat the origins. I just don't compare, but I've so much mre 2d wave records; love the heavier, crossover approach, maybe because I started out as a metalhead and still listen to death, thrash and black metal.
