@MrGothic783 жыл бұрын
Chronos of Venom also said that they were inspired by the Exploited sound
@stonewolf78503 жыл бұрын
@@MrGothic78 For sure, now that you mention it. From my recollection of musical evolution as a kid, and admittedly, I had limited access and exposure, to the type of music I preferred due to the country I grew up in, Exploited was the first fast and thrashy sound that I recall. Metal initially tended to be dark, slow and heavy, Sabbath, Ozzy, Deep Purple etc type of sound, Hard Rock maybe a bit more upbeat, like van Halen, David Lee Roth, KISS, but lyrically tended towards regular pop. Then suddenly there was Exploited with Barmy Army, Mucky Pup and Sid Vicious was Innocent. Jesus. I'm screaming the lyrics in my own head while typing this. 😆😆😆 Culminating in The Massacre with that pounding fucking Bass that at rolling speed still gives me goosebumps and makes me want to do fucking backflips off speaker stacks. Then Motorhead about the same time with songs like Overkill etc were also speedier. Back then I tended to prefer British bands to those from the US. Until I heard Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss, and realized for the first time in my life that I wasn't alone in this world. Here was somebody from another continent, who was expressing my emotions, in sound and vocals. Hearing Slayer was a moment for me. Thank fuck for that, because I'd have been long dead if not for Metal. Probably a good few others too.
@MrGothic783 жыл бұрын
@@stonewolf7850 Great description mate ! And I couldn't agree more with you 👍 I prefer brit metal, too, a band I love particularly are My Dying Bride, but that's Doom Metal. I do love the Exploited, Venom, Carcass, but the Obituary and Morbid Angel are not that bad as well. Keep it up, mate, music is the best way to escape reality. No matter what the genre, it is always something to help us cope with the shite of real life. Cheers bruv 🖤🎸👍

@@MrGothic78 Thanks Bro! The feelings mutual. I have an interesting story you may appreciate. One which I really never repeat because, I can't prove it apart from two friends, and my ex, who witnessed it, one buddy who's now living in the US somewhere, and the other somewhere still in our country of birth, and the fact it sounds like bullshit. The crazy thing is that I've heard versions of the story repeated, from other sources, claiming it was some or other person involved, but it was me. Unless it happened more than once, which is unlikely. My final year of high school, or immediately after I matriculated, so either late '91 or '92. I gave the lead singer of Napalm Death a bloody nose. No shit. Now I'm not claiming to be some hard arse, and in fact it was purely accidental, but let me give the whole story. I'm a skinny little Metal Head and hear that Napalm Death, for reasons beyond me, is not only touring in my country, but will be playing 300 kms from where I'm living. So us four kids make the necessary arrangements to get to the venue. Now keep in mind, this is South Africa. We're all small-time and small-town, and apart from TV, our schools band was about the only other concerts we'd seen. Doc Martined feet and dressed in black, in a big city (relatively), we find the basement Bar in the Hotel where they're about to be playing. When we reach the door, these older, hard looking bastards, in black leather, glare at our tickets and then bark a question at me.... DO YOU HAVE ANY DRUGS OR WEAPONS ON YOU? I nervously stutter out that I do not. To be met by a stern stare from the lot of them, followed with..... WELL FUCK OFF THEN AND GET SOME..... followed by hearty laughter at the look on my face, and permission to enter. Good guys. I'm not driving, so it's just enough time to steady my nerves after entry, and hit back a few tequilas, while the band does some final tuning of instruments, and then to join the mob milling around in front of the stage. Now the stage was just a wooden platform, raised about a foot above the floor, and nothing between us and the band, other than a few behemoths lumbering about on the edges of the room, and one each side of the stage. I'd never heard Napalm Death before, and I couldn't honestly repeat a single word from any track that night, but holy shit, I nearly came when the guitars, double bass and vocals exploded into that low ceilinged basement that we were in. That sound was so powerful that it was tangible, and those speakers displacing so much air with each blast, I swear it would've knocked a paper cup placed in front if it, flying. Anyway, the whole place explodes, everyone going ape-shit, moshpit chaos, with anyone too lightweight, or slow on their feet going down in the mosh, the chick's to be scooped up and handed off to the bouncers, who moved them to the edges for safety, and the dudes to be hoisted up, to rejoin or make their own way to safety. A few tracks in, fucked if I know where my shirt, my girlfriend or my buddies are, I'm front row, standing eye to eye, more or less, with this stocky motherfkn brick shit-house with a thick black mop of long frizzy hair, who is about to launch into the next song. As he does, I jump forward, basically just to the side of where he's standing, intending to use the edge of the stage to launch backwards into the moshpit, from right next to the vocalist. What I hadn't noticed that there was carpeting on the stage, and what I could never have anticipated anyway, was that it was loose on there. It was nothing like it had seemed in my head, unfortunately. Rather than launching me, my feet slipped a few inches from the shove. Reflexively my arms failed out wildly, and I accidentally smashed the dude in the face. Hard. I could see blood already, as I fell back onto the people behind me. Heart dtopped instantly, with visions of vicious beatings from bouncers, mingling with thoughts of ruining the best night of my life, public humiliation, getting kicked out and possibly shamed and forever hated by my chosen community. My brothers and sisters in Metal. From elation to dread in an instant, while I anticipated the reaction. They never missed a beat. No pause in the vocals, no reaction other than swiping his hand across his face, wiping blood away from the mic. Then banging on, face sweaty and bloody, while I was still expecting to be grabbed any second. Nothing happened to me though, I saw a few glances exchanged between bouncers and band, nothing more. I tried apologizing after the show, but was waved off and told not to worry about it, as it wasn't deliberate. Which it wasn't, but still. Awesome dude. Remains one of the best nights of my life ever. Good memories of good people. 🤘

Saw them about 15 years ago at this smashed up club in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in the valley mall, called 299 club I think. The ceiling was so low u could touch it, there were about 4 smashed couches, comfy for a moment, the toilet door was smashed in, but the stage was well set up with LOUD speakers. The band weren't all original members but they took it very seriously. And when Wattie came out - oh my fuck! He had no shirt, he was so muscley! - the perfect amount to go berserk all night; BUT IT WAS HIS PIERCING BLUE EYES! They were like frigging lasers just drilling the whole crowd so intensely the whole concert. They were fucking brilliant. I actually wrote down my request (Class War), and then crowd surfed to hand it to Wattie but he gestured to the younger band members and shrugged apologetically because the new guys didn't know it - because it's a really rare, obscure Exploited song.

Mannnn, I hate being a USA American. My mindset and behavior is and always was much more European, in so many ways, and I have visited there. Got in trouble with other "fellow citizens" for "being disrespectful" to veterans and patriotism. Basically, voicing my anti-USA views. And one of them gave me that stupid line- move there, if you hate it here. Then argued with me about how it ain't that simple. You need money, a new home, a new job, different language, navigating a COMPLETELY new landscape and new laws. Oh thank you, moron, I didn't realize it was so easy. Well, I think I'll just move next week then! I'm currently researching how to move and renounce my USA citizenship, but I'm still gonna be here for a long while.
