A very modern Islamic cathedral. I say cathedral, because so many of the columns in our ancient cathedrals remind me so much of trees, which support the vaulted ceilings. Really beautiful, and full of grace. I'd love to visit some day.

I've just made a quick investigation, and it seems that Islamic architecture may indeed have inspired the Gothic arch and other features of Northern European cathedral design. However, before the development of the Gothic Arch and the High Gothic style, Norman cathedrals were built using Roman Arches. (A fine example can be found in Nottinghamshire - Southall Minster, c. 1108CE.)

*As a trainee architect, I've been crying out about the monstrosities that are British mosques.* Architecture has always been about responding to the surrounding environment and this is a prime example of responsible, sensitive, and thought-out design that is in harmony with its surroundings whilst cleverly meeting the spiritual need of a place of prayer.
