I have one, and I love it. I get a great sound right out the gate. I've used different types of blanket and shields on the market and the eyeball knocked them all out the water. It will sound like you have a different mic but in a great way. More low end, controlled top end, extremely easier to eq. Get one!
@GaragebandandBeyond
@GaragebandandBeyond 9 жыл бұрын
It's really not if you compare it to either one of those shield things or bunch of Acoustic foam. It's a lot cheaper than those 2 things and it does a better job than the shields for sure. But I do think it's worth it. If you struggle getting a good smooth warm vocal tone, this is the thing for you!

For a ball of foam $199 is too expensive, though it works. So basically you are paying for the idea not the foam. I hope it gets down to $99 before I get one. Thanks for the great review and audio comparison.

Thanks Lewin, the demo was great! The price seems to be the same here across the ocean - 199. Only that 199€ is even a little more than 199$. Maybe I'll check if there are some good offerings... :) And btw, do you have the rest of that song ready? I really wanna know what happens to that gal who can't afford a buss ride.

Seems like a good idea but I'm not really sure I can hear $200.00 worth of difference in the demos, quite honestly. $99.00 would be more in line, IMO. However, I like the fact you guys are using those awesome CAD cans, they're my favorite. And, is the song the lady is singing an original tune? I really liked it.

I think it could solve some problems with mobile recordings. I don't think it will replace having a well set up room. I also don't think it will help with mix spaces but that wasn't the point. However... I DO like the idea of getting just a smidge more isolation from the guitar mic when tracking together. Hmmmm.... Right now I think I'll see what else comes of this model.

This product does the best presentation in your setup cause your room was semi treated. Giving by the sample clips that I've heard, this product with maybe 500-800 worth of acoustic room treatment such as bass traps placed in the right spots to catch early reflections this product would truely shine like it would be in a 4k studio booth at an expense of 1k investment. But this will not give you the best result without minor room treatment in general.

Teng Vang I've heard various tests done with it, and they all made the audio sound disgusting. In this case, it turned a beautiful airy microphone into something that sounds worse than a $30 microphone I bought on ebay for shits and giggles. The reason the eyeball does not work is because that foam junk only absorbs the treble, but not the bass, so the bass is just bouncing around in that ball, clogging up the sound entirely.

Great review. I think it sounds really good. It seems to do what its made for. Eleminate the room reverb. In my expirience its easier to dial out some bass ;) in a vocal track than eliminating (annoying) room reverb.

Not exactly sure, but I know on something like the Neumann TLM 103 the Eyeball makes it impossible to screw the mic into it's shock mount, so instead the Eyeball sits on top of the shock mount. I was surprised how secure it is.

Great demo video Lewin! Hey so I saw in the thread here that this eyeball can work on a TLM 103 (which is my mic of choice) but I can't imagine how you would be mounting it? I think I saw you said that it sits on top of the mount itself??? Thanks for your help Lewin.
@GaragebandandBeyond
@GaragebandandBeyond 9 жыл бұрын
On the TLM the Eyeball ends up siting on top of the shock mount. It's surprisingly steady. But you're right the Eyeball is too big,m so the TLM cannot screw into it's shock mount anymore. However don't worry, you can still use the Eyeball perfectly well with the TLM!

I don't think professional recording studios would ever buy it because part of a good recording is the room and it's characteristics, and so great recording studios having great rooms, it'd kind of be a shame. But then again this is made for home studios that don't have awesome rooms so it's a nice way to get a dry sound to manipulate later. The price doesn't seem to be aimed to home studio guys though.

GaragebandandBeyond drcolosso Yes the CAD E100’s sounds great within the Eyeball. The only thing that's not compatible is the rear bracket. Instead, we recommend using a standard shock mount (just grab one off of any other mic lying around). The Eyeball will hold your E100 elastically inside and then you can simply sit the Eyeball along with your microphone on top of your standard shock mount. Check out our FAQ kaoticaeyeball.com/faq for an example using a similar mic..
