I was disappointed with the Ezra and Spencer incident. As a Samoan I can see it from the point of view of both players because I have received racism and made racist remarks aimed to hurt. With self reflection and education I have learnt to fix many of my faults. No matter how old I get I am constantly learning and trying to better myself. We are not perfect. We need to condemn the act of racism but not the people. People can be rehabilitated. Spencer needs to be held accountable and accept the responsibility and consequences. What I don’t like is those not willing give the man a chance to learn and grow from his mistake. It’s easy to get on our high horses and point out social injustices, but it doesn’t help if we continue the cycle of hate if we hold onto the anger and resentment and continue to bash him when he’s owned up to his mistake and willing to better himself. The late great Dr. King fought against racism and violence with love and forgiveness.

As a samoan myself I have heard and seen our people be incredibly racist towards blacks especially the older generation and I always thought that they thought like because of how they view the Europeans as angels and gods which is crazy considering it was the Europeans who did all the harm to our people.

As a fellow poly I found out what the word 'Meauli' means and how degrading it is. Funny you say I've heard samoans call black people that in a mocking tone but I've never heard a samoan say that to another samoan. So is that racist or not?

As a Samoan of course you will because Samoans will say stupid shit in front of other Samoans just like other cultures they say some racist stuff but only to their own! What you think it’s just us 😂 I have a Lebanese / English wife and I tell ya the things they say when they’re around their own people is something u wouldn’t say out loud! @@antonpatea7390 so what your saying is it's okay if we just say it amongst ourselves? Or everybody does it so it means it okay? Jesus mate your not apart of every culture so how would you know that "everybody" says racist stuff? What I was explaining was the double standards that my people have as they praise palangis whilst stereotyping blacks with the exact racist talking points the palangis used back in the days when they purposely pushed propaganda towards blacks.

A player is samoan now. Should should choose to play for samoa now. Not after he has represented Australia or NZ. Improves the quality of the sport on the international level. So no longer will Australia and NZ be dominant. Also bring PNG team into the NRL or a PNG and Fiji combination.

Great podcast uso I just want to put my 2 cents in but in oz islanders from Sydney along with the aboriginal people and so on banter this sort of way it’s very normal but is not taken to offence! I’ve seen it my whole life of how they interact with each other and it’s not something you would know unless you grew up there! I think with Spencer he just needs to learn that just because you banter that way with your circle or area does not mean it would be acceptable to others! However i think this incident is a bunch of bs and classic case of sheep in wolves clothing! If Ezra really felt that way about racism then he wouldn’t have called the Penrith boys coconuts last years grand final I think he was just trying to milk a penalty

The brother is right If Maori can play for both NZ and Maori All Blacks…..Why can’t our USOs and DOKOs and other ethnic cultures alike play for their own?….makes no sense and not fair really…..I’m Maori and I know what shud be done to improve the game……do what league did and let our brothers play for their respective countries I agree that NRL shud change the game up a little more and add a Pacific Island Team to the forte and challenge the Indigenous and Maori each year in a three way battle……sounds like it would up the ante and add more income into the NRLs pockets lol Rugby needs a reboot and take a leaflet out of the NRLs approach…….. Much respect 🇼🇸 🇹🇴 🇫🇯 🇨🇰 🇳🇿

I'm Samoan living in the U.S. I think the keyboard warriors lack educational knowledge and a lot of common sense. Everyone knows in America racism is part of our everyday life. It will never go away. I've never played rugby league but l do know it's an emotional sport. I hope Spencer apologizes for his actions and the NRL to take proper measures to handle it.

Thank you for sharing, dont agree with this colonisers argument its petty & equally short sighted. Islanders were already warring amongst themselves, dominating and subjugating each other long with even more inhumane practices before the arrival of modern explorers. Also racism as the language of colonisers overlooks that Islanders are racism towards other islanders. Racism is not a condition of culture but of heart, only healed thru Christ

Kills what international rugby is. If you pledge allegiance to a country you stick to that country. This is like a guy cannot make the aussie/nz team so he opts to play for a small island nation just so he can take part in a world event. But when they are good they play for australia/nz and towards the end of their careers they move to smaller island nations just to take part. This squashes the chance for young islanders to represent their country. These young islanders will always play for their country.

They should commit to their country then if they ain't want the 4 year wait to change their allegiance. Changing your allegiance is kinda being hypocritical in all sense as it shows you wasn't really 100% committed in the start. So I agree with the 4 year wait.

okay.. how europeans thought of ppng these ‘men’ were ‘savage and bestial’; they were ‘the ugliest’ he had seen in the whole region; and their mode of wearing their beards ‘wrapped in leaves and placed in cane straws’ was ‘ridiculous’. The grounds for this acerbity are unclear but the insulting adjectives may be countersigns of disapproved Indigenous agency - signifiers (expressions) inflected by their referents (the people, actions, or things referred to). The men’s personal ornamentation offended Pigafetta’s aesthetic sense and they initially met the Europeans ‘with bows’, though quickly became ‘friends’ on receiving ‘presents’.

Oh yeah they tried that, found embezzlement only item on the agenda...if Samoan players are of necessity to solely identify to heritage culture, good luck with the hard yards..and for those players entrenched in the elite, how about financial compensation to the Unions you currently feed off?
