Ran that test when I did a course with Langdon last year. It's definitely harder than it seems, and a good assessment of how one synthesizes several important skills. This is a good reminder I need to incorporate it back into my practice.

Todd Green is the biggest influence on my pistolcraft. I never had the chance to train with him but I came into his original 9x19 forums as a dumb kid who didn't know better asking what gun I should pick for myself. He gave me a 5 step plan. 1) Go to the NRA and learn how to shoot. 2) seriously, go to the NRA and learn how to shoot. 3) I mean it, go to the NRA and learn how to shoot. 4) this is gospel: go to the NRA and learn how to shoot. 5) once you do this for a year, now you can pick your sidearm. I only wish I could have thanked him in person for correcting my foolishness before he passed.

I run this test a few times at the end of most range sessions Best so far is 5 seconds clean @ 7yd OWB from surrender Doing it twice in a row for a coin is a really impressive feat Run it from 5 yd too for fun - can get as low as 4.5 It’s a great way to test quickly building a proper grip off the reload otherwise those 4 fast shots are not going to stay in the 8” I also will run it with a SIRT pistol and 2 mags and the LASRX program with the goal of around 3.5 - going at that speed really tests your muscle memory - but without recoil ,so not possible to replicate in live fire I agree with Lucky Gunner that you need to train each component separately as part of your range or dry fire practice before attempting to put it all together at speed without thinking about the individual elements

These guys are too slow to be dry fire practicing . First Always have a loaded magazine in gun with empty chamber and dont ever load the chamber in your house.PERIOD Dont ever put any thing in front of the muzzle that you dont want to destroy. Dont point the gun at any one. Youl be developing strength to hold up the gun . and strength and speed of trigger finger You start at one room in your house randomly You speed draw looking at your gun eyes flip back and fourth in a thousandth of a second You draw and double tap nick nacks and pictures on wall alarm clock any thing you count your shots and just use the front sight you reload and drop old mag on floor if you only have one mag put it in pocket and re draw it while running to next room and never start on same nick nack twice the more random the better even if safety wont engage with empty chamber hit the safety coming from the draw right as you are edging on your target. Keep room to rooming it youl get realy good. Its actually the best shooting drills you can do people have won world cups with nothing but dry fire practice. be the god fearing moral man You can say or do anything in this world but be prepaired to take the consiquences for them Do not say black lives matter Its a exuse that criminals make Color there are people good and bad of all colors. you will find God will not judge you by color and neither will I If you embrace being a warrior of god he will show you things other people can not see And a skill set no one else has . Great video and explanation but I don’t have the ability to do this because I only have access to an outdoor range once a year and I can’t do this at my indoor range. I never carry an extra magazine anyway so I was wondering if there is a drill you could recommend for an indoor range? My range does allow rapid fire. I have never had a malfunction with my carry gun but perhaps substituting a malfunction clearance or two for the mag reload would work. Anyway, respond if you can, or anyone else out there, and thanks again for the video.

I love your reviews, I just wanted to say you are a bit off the mark regarding sights. I was taught that with the pistol up to 15yds you should be able to point and shoot, no sights, and (when I was younger) I could. Focusing on the sights in a combat or self-defense situation takes too much time. Honestly, I do not even consider pistol sights unless I am 25 yds our or more. If things come to me or them, sights are the last thing I am going to consider...

Listen to the hosts again. This is meant as a measure of skill, of unconscious competency. Try to get 5 seconds and you'll see how hard it is. As they say, only 18 + Todd Green out of 1000+ students. If someone wants to shoot multiple targets without reloading, there are plenty of different drills that address that. Also, changing gears in real time, under pressure, accuracy, breaking grip, reloading, rebuilding grip, and 4 quick shots is really a measure of a large skill set I, one small drill. Just shooting at an array of targets isn't measuring much by comparison.

@@bgarza5506 He isn't wrong though... It's called setting yourself up for failure. When you say shoot 115gr 9mm standard pressure for practice but 124gr +P for self defense, recoil impulse, impact shifts, reliability in your handgun, and etc are all important factors to know. I don't suggest you shoot up like 300+ rounds of the stuff in a given range session but you should be shooting it more frequently than you are. This is why a lot of the handguns I use for self defense use ammo that is loaded to the same spec. It's why Winchester, Federal, and I believe even Remington loaded up "Train + Defend" type loads. Where they have an FMJ load and JHP that are loaded to the same weight and powder charge, so there will be no difference when running in your gun. Federal's line is what they call a "Versatile HP" because it's frangible when shooting steel plates for practice but still expands well for self defense. End of the day it's to each their own. It's your time, money, and potential for your life and the lives of those who may depend on you and not mine. But it's something you really should think about.

Christopher as someone that has taken over 35 hours of training this year, I know he has a point. It’s the way the post came across that makes him sound holier than thou, specifically about if you haven’t prepared ....let’s face it JHP are very expensive and most people can not afford to be shooting that like its FMJs including myself. I do take a few shots of my carry ammo after each range session just to make sure to get a feel for it..I carry Federal HST 124 grain and it’s not like it’s a 180 difference from a 115

Buy it cheap and stack it deep. I grabbed Ks of 9mm right when Covid kicked the stock market in the balls. Also, get some reloading gear and start collecting the necessary dies and other components as you can find them

I just bought 1K of 9mm from lucky gunner. You need to check every day and strike when the ammo is in.

Does anyone know Chris’s height/weight? He mentions he’s a smaller guy but I see him carrying a 365XL so I’m just wondering what his size is.

So this was one of the test types to measure ability’s based off times rather then practice it over and over. Which others do you consider to be in the same category from the rest of the series .
@LuckyGunner

Honestly, most of them are that way. The actual stuff you do over and over to improve is really boring. Most of the tests and drills are not that helpful for getting better until you break them down into smaller and smaller pieces. Those small pieces are what you have to practice a bunch (e.g., break the drawstroke into three or four pieces and practice each piece. Practice clearing the cover garment and getting a grip on the gun in the holster. Just that part by itself. Over and over and over. Slow at first, then faster and faster.)
