It's my opinion of course. Theres something in the smirk of the tusculum portrait that tells me Julius Caesar was no tyrant. Unlike Crassus, Julius Caesar refused to decimate his men after the defeat at the battle of Gergovia. His commentaries made him a folk hero to ordinary Romans.

@@RoyaltyNowStudios Throughout history and even to today, it was common to see men in high positions care more about their power and influence than their own personal relationships. He probably saw her relationship with Caesar as beneficial since it made them "connected" in more ways than one.

😆😆😆 That’s probably why a lot of his peers couldn’t stand him (although he appeared to have a sense of humor and was generally considered quite congenial company - for example, Cicero “almost wished” Caesar was still alive after his experiences with the politicians that came into power after Caesar’s assassination…

I started watching your videos yesterday and they are absolutely fantastic. As a history major I often find that historical figures are not talked about like they were humans too, people that laughed, cried, and loved just like us. Your videos are the best example I have ever found in regards to humanizing these historical figures. You don't just talk about their achievements you go in depth with how they lived their lives. Please keep up the get work!

What's amazing to me, is when you make them smile... I don't think any of us think of them as humans like any other, with their own dreams and hopes. Of course, we know they were like any of us, but I don't think we ever imagine them smiling and laughing, being carefree and looking forward to the future, as any other young human being. That's what struck me the most when you did Anne Boleyn, and thank you for these incredible reconstructions ❤

Very interesting! So often it's Caesars foreign conquests and his death that is focused on. I had no idea about a lot of these events from his youth. Some might remember HBO's great show "Rome", but even that started when Caesar was middle-aged, and I couldn't quite get behind the actor who played him. That was my one issue with the show, which is why it's great to see a younger and more realistic portrait, hinting towards the charisma he must have actually had.

That is the face of a leader. But unlike the "leaders" we have today (every last one of them, I don't care what side you're on), who are more like the corrupt senators and middle-management of Rome, the leaders of the past weren't just people with a lot of money and small minds. They were often soldiers, actually educated in history, philosophy, understood poetry and art, and were - ideally - the best men alive in their time. We don't have leaders for over a hundred years now, we only have thousands of grubby little corrupt mini-tyrants.
@monmothma3358
@monmothma3358 2 ай бұрын
Not sure if you listened to the documentary 😂 There was SO much corruption, elitism, gluttony, infighting, brutal killings...At least there are less killings and civil wars these days. No, human nature never changes. All we can do is be aware of it and make legislation and institutions (like the division of power), that keep our greed and power hunger in check.

Personally I've adopted the description of Caesar couched by Colleen McCullough in her 'Masters of Rome' series. She used the Ferrucci bust as a template and made him blond with pale blue eyes ringed with dark irises - giving him the piercing quality so often discussed. A fascinating portrait, both physically and psychologically. Still, your version could very well be the truest one. Good job.
