I liked ECW. It started off so good. Despite the name, I really enjoyed watching it every Tuesday night. It had so much potential to be on par with Raw and Smackdown. Kurt Angle, RVD, CM Punk, Chris Benoit, Kane, Big Show, Matt Hardy, Christian, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger, The Miz, Bobby Lashley, who are all WWE main event worthy wrestlers at one point were on the brand. And amazing talent like Evan Bourne, Chavo Guerrero, Sabu, Shelton Benjamin, Tommy Dreamer, John Morrison, and Elijah Burke.

The Benoit thing was what really fucked it over. It had the potential to be a really good show. With Benoit and Punk leading it? Would’ve been awesome but with the circumstances around Benoit and how they had to avoid people from turning out like him, it just couldn’t happen. He was also about to retire as well and imagine if he had died from that enlarged heart? He would’ve died around Wrestlemania 24 time.

Using thE ECW name was a mistake . It created expectations amongst the ecw fans that WWE simply couldnt meet. For me they should have just revived thE ECW titles . The 3rd brand should have been Velocity. They should have given it the green colour scheme and the ring ropes should have been green . Velocity should have gone from being a B-Grade smackdown to a fullblown 3rd brand .

It really wasn't a failed relaunch. It was a test to see if a third brand was viable. They just used the ECW name to get momentum. But they were always just testing the waters. And now we have NXT as a standalone third brand. Thank WWECW for that.

It had some momentum at first, but it got watered down once Big Show lost the title to someone that wasn't organically accepted by ECW faithful. It would've been even more interesting if Ric Flair somehow had a run with their belt, but he didn't want to but "the guy" at that point of his career anymore.

I liked the Time when The Big Show was ECW Champion. It was pretty clear from the Start for me that this would never be the old ECW. RVD and Sabu destroyed everything from the Start already too after the Police caught them with Joints. Still Big Show was amazing and was pretty much the only Reason the "new" ECW diden't die in 2 Months already. I read Vince had enough inside a Month and Big Show saved it. After Big Show's Time ECW was only the 3 Brand and complety the same as Raw and SmackDown but only worse.

The ECW relaunch failed simply because Vince wanted the ECW name itself tamed and took away the original ECW rules where every match has no rules no matter who’s fighting in the ring and normally there were never any protective mats outside the ring and even worse, Vince wasn’t letting the originals like The Genocidal, Homicidal, Suicidal, Death Defying Insane Lunatic Sabu, Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney and The Innovator Of Violence Tommy Dreamer and Justin Credible etc be their real selves and had them as full time jobbers on the show in losing to guys like Cena, John Morrison, Matt Knox and The Big Show etc, plus there wasn’t any juicing allowed in the matches either. This was doomed right from the start…this is coming from an original EC F’N W fan that saw the action live at Hammerstein Ballroom and also drove 3 hours from NY to Philadelphia to go to the ECW Arena and I even attended the PPV Wrestlepalooza 1998 seeing Taz defeat The Franchise Shane Douglas to become the new ECW World Heavyweight Champ.

The biggest problem was that ECW quickly became just another WWE show, and not in a good way. They put way too many WWE style wrestlers who had either bland (Mike Knox, Test, Big Daddy V) or goofy (Kevin Thorn, the Zombie) gimmicks that didn't fit the vibe of the original ECW at all, instead the show just became SmackDown Lite. And even though I'm actually a Big Show fan as crazy as that may sound, he didn't fit the ECW mold at all and should not have been given the massive push as the face of their brand the way that he did. What made the original ECW so likable was the blend of cool but not unrealistic gimmicks (Sandman, Sabu, Raven, New Jack, etc.) while also having a healthy dose of indie style wrestling matches from great in-ring workers like RVD, Jerry Lynn, Benoit, Jericho, Lance Storm, Psicosis, Misterio, Eddy Guerrero, Taijiri, Super Crazy, etc. all wrapped into one organic and edgy presentation

The worse part for me, was how it was treated, and therefore for viewed as the 3rd rate brand. When you’re most popular guy loses the title to Chavo (who I hate to say that as bad, but was lower mid-carder at best in wwe), it makes the title look like a joke. Then while on Raw and SD had the really prestigious looking belts, they made the ECW title SILVER, aka 2nd best. I personally liked the design, and Ik it matched since it was the “Silver brand”, but it didn’t help the perception of ECW being the jobber/rookie show. Then you too many wwe based gimmicks like that vampire, the zombie, every roided up dude, even Kane with no ECW originals (or people you could believe would make it in the original ECW) to balance it out. Then there’s the fact that the ECW title, was the only championship to fight for, hence guys like Yoshi Tatsu and Zack Ryder (mid-card guys), would somehow be fighting for it and then disappear. I only knew that ECW had other titles, due to watching the OG ECW on On Demand later on. They should’ve had the ECW tag titles, being back the Hardcore championship for the brand (maybe redesign it to match it more with the brand), and maybe even introduce an ECW women’s championship (though there might not have been enough women on ECW for a division). Deep down in my heart, I wish WWECW came back, as I never got to watch it while it was being aired. As I actually started watching SD for a while, where there was a vignette I saw where Zeke was shown as the last ECW champion, yet I don’t think they said he was the last one at the time. I remember asking my friend what channel it was on, he said Syfy, then I went there only to not see it...I was disappointed and even thought he lied to me lol. I’ll stop here as I’ve rambled long enough, though I will admit I first learned about ECW in SVR 2010, and remember when Big Show won it in RTWM. I thought those stories were real, and actually looked up him winning the title, but it wasn’t from Tommy Dreamer and he didn’t have the big silver title. The more you know.
